It’s actually kind of hilarious the reasons people will like or dislike or hate Obi-Wan’s show because it’s either contradicting or the same thing.

“I hate the shaky camera work” / “oh wow the shaky camera work is so symbolic”

“The pacing was horrible” / “I’m so glad and surprised they added this into their six episode series”

“Obi-Wan was this, this, this” / “Obi-Wan was this, this, this”

“The music wasn’t great” / “the music was fantastic and full of symbolism”

“Everything looks cheap and the cgi is so bad” / “I’m glad they didn’t cgi Anakin”

“They’ve literally changed what the Jedi are about/believe in” / “oh finally they are showing how the Jedi actually are”

Like honestly I’ve seen so many posts about how much someone either loved or hated this show and I’m just cracking up at everything. Like whatever man, as long as you don’t get up and disrespectful at others who have a different opinion.

I am kind of obsessed with how Leia takes attributes from the people who have influenced her life (especially at a young age) whether it be times of great peril or just the course of her childhood.

She is a senator like her father.

She is royalty like her mother.

She is a fighter like Tala.

She is a General like Obi-Wan.

I’m sure there is probably more and there are other attributes she carries too, not just titles, but also motivations, quirks and even bits of personality and how she deals and reacts to scenarios. She’s taking the best lessons she learned from those people and put them into practice. She made the choices and she learned. Leia learns. And I just love thinking about it.

i can't decide between whether i think it was a rare moment of empathy that made vader say “you didn't kill anakin skywalker. i did.” or if he just didn't want obi wan to take the credit for what HE did

Considering how obsessed Vader is with power and control, the latter I imagine.

ALSO OBI-WAN'S CONFRONTATION WITH VADER REINFORCES YET ANOTHER THEME THAT'S BEEN AROUND IN STAR WARS FOREVER: Luke could only save Anakin because Anakin let him - Luke's love wasn't greater than Padmé's, or Ahsoka's, or Obi-Wan's. They all confronted Vader at some point and offered him one form of forgiveness and compassion or another. Padmé was ready to run away with him, Ahsoka wouldn't leave him, and Obi-Wan was crying, telling him he was sorry. Vader only allowed Luke's love to pull him back rather than the others because he couldn't endure to face somebody who knew Anakin Skywalker telling him he was still loved - he knew he'd never be able to give them back the good man he killed, and to even try would be so painful (because it would mean facing all the horrors he committed) that he couldn't accept any reminder that he could still choose a better path. To him, that hand reaching out had to come from someone who never knew Anakin and loved him regardless.

I’m aware people want a lot of solo series and Disney is certainly churning them out but I think I would be interested more in a bigger setting. I would like to see more about the Path. In Rebels, we see a lot of espionage and battles which is all well and good, but I’d like to see what we have been introduced to in Kenobi. The Path. Refugees and smuggled Jedi and fleeing force sensitives. Although Roken had a bit of a rocky weird start with me, I ended up actually liking him. And Haja is an interesting and fun addition too. We already know that Quinlan is involved, so it’s not like any of it would be out of the blue. And what is known about Cal, it would not be surprising for him and the Mantis crew to get involved in something like that, considering the plot of Fallen Order. Personally I would be alright with it happening before Obi-Wan’s series, partially because I loved Tala and would like to see her change and a bit of a redemption arc (which we see the absolute conclusion of in the Kenobi series).

I just think it would be really interesting and it would allow for different characters to come in and out. I actually kind of miss the group settings and shows. The Clone Wars (although often focused on certain characters) still spent episodes on others and there was a large cast of characters. Rebels and Fallen Order was a bigger cast and crew (although obviously the latter is more Cal centric). It’s not that I hate solo runs, I just kind of like the group ones, there is more dynamics and friendships.

And not only would something like this really show the atrocities of the empire, of their tyrannical and often genocidal actions, but I think it could help build up the rebellion or at least what people see/know of the rebellion along with it as a whole, even if the Path may not be directly tied to the rebellion we know.

“You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did.”

I don’t think this is him taking responsibility for his actions (not in the sense people think, I believe) or that he’s absolving Obi-Wan of guilt (Obi-Wan isn’t guilty) but rather, it’s about power. It’s about control.

It’s always been about power and control.

Vader telling Obi-Wan that he is what Obi-Wan made him was very less… less and more just to hurt him. He knows Obi-Wan loved him. He knows Obi-Wans feelings (to an extent) and he knows how much this hurts him. He knows Obi-Wan feels guilty. So he says these things to hurt Obi-Wan in the moment.

But saying that Obi-Wan didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker? That Vader did? That was about power and control. Power and control, because he can’t stand even the concept that someone would be more powerful than him to make him who he is. That someone would be powerful enough to kill him - even if the person killed was Anakin Skywalker, someone he perceives as weak. Sidious aside, Vader cannot stand thinking anyone can be more powerful than him to destroy him - even a former version of him. Saying that Vader killed Anakin? It is supposed to show that he is more powerful. He is so powerful he killed Anakin. He is so powerful that he killed the Chosen One when no one else could. He needs to control the story, the narrative. He needs to set people straight on what happened - or at least; the people who know about Anakin and Vader. Anakin/Vader is so obsessed with control, that he cannot stand anyone even saying or thinking they killed him. Vader is the “powerful one” and the one in control who killed Anakin Skywalker.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but wow, I’m actually pretty glad there wasn’t a whole ton of cameos and character referenced. Quinlan got a mention, we saw a Jedi or two that we knew in the tombs, and a certain ghost showed up at the end. These things make sense in the brief time that the show is over the course of. I know there are plenty of characters people wanted to see but considering how convoluted and awkward that can very well come across, not only would I think things like that would have detracted from the story and what was going on but also been kind of a bit overwhelming, especially for Obi-Wan, bombarded by references and appearances of people he hasn’t seen in 10+ years. Whether their appearance means good things for Obi-Wan or not, it’s still a lot.
