Sid x Sullivan Relationship Headcanons:

•first of all, aside from the odd little look back (like the gif above) these two are absolute pros at keeping their relationship hidden.

•that’s not to say that they haven’t slipped up though- they have accidentally worn each other’s clothes occasionally and often swap wrist watches.

•they have adorable dates. Sid will loiter around the back garden gate of the Inspectors house and they pretend that it’s about some ‘informal questioning’ when Sullivan lets Sid in.

•it’s actually just an opportunity to have dinner together. Sullivan is a surprisingly good cook and he loves the chance to show off for Sid.

•they’ll sometimes dance around the parlour together, Sid leads and holds the Inspector tight in his arms.

•when they bump into each other around Kembleford they keep up their grumpy act towards one another, but if you look really closely you can see smiles threatening to break through their stony facades.

•Father Brown 100% knows about the relationship and he is very discreet. He wants Sid to be happy and he’s glad that the two men have found one another.

•when the Inspector has a few days off Sid will mysteriously vanish. No one ever puts two and two together, aside from Father Brown, and the men often go to a deserted seaside cottage to be alone together.

•Sid is a stargazer and teaches Sullivan the names of all the stars.

•when one sees the other in uniform (Sids Chauffeur uniform or Sullivan’s formal Police attire) there’s so much teasing and unresolved sexual tension. It’s super cute.

•there’s almost a fire when Sid tries to cook for Sullivan for their anniversary, so they agree that it’s best if the cooking is left to Sullivan.

•they’re incredibly happy together.

Sid definitely kisses Sullivan when he’s rambling. Sullivan sometimes (often) has trouble leaving his work, well, at work. He’s always thinking about something to do with a case, always turning something over in his head, trying to piece things together. If it’s not work it’ll be something personally he’s fussing over (so on more than one occasion definitely his feelings for Sid) and his brain very rarely seems to rest.

So he’s a rambler of the highest order. Either to himself, under his breath, or out loud to whoever’s listening, most likely Sid. He likes to ramble while pacing round the room, twiddling with something in his hands, or fixing tiny little imperfections - specks of dirt on his desk etc.

When he does it around Sid, Sid often lets him go on for a few minutes, just to help him get his ideas out of his head. Then he notices that the rambling is starting to become more like unhealthy obsessing, and Sullivan needs to step back, relax, and let himself rest. (He needs to stop holding himself to such ridiculously high standards, most likely put in his head by his father, but Sid has thoughts on that man that he has to swallow down often).

To get him to calm down, Sid will often have to hold Sullivan physically still - either by taking his hands to stop him fiddling, or by holding his waist or cupping his jaw. Then he’ll kiss him softly and gently until he can actually feel the anxious tension releasing from Sullivan’s muscles underneath his hands.

Their first kiss probably happened a lot like that too, with Sullivan nervously trying to explain how much he actually likes Sid and how he knows he shouldn’t and he doesn’t know why he’s so drawn to him but all he can think about is kissing him but he’s never brave enough to and this is so embarrassing Sid can’t possibly return his feelings and— oh.

(Sid did of course return the feelings, and let Sullivan know this by kissing the living daylights out of him until both of them were extremely dizzy and in need of a cup of tea)

Does anybody else get legitimately worried when a fanfic author who was updating regularly just suddenly disappears with no warning? Like, is it a serious case of writers block or are they in a coma? Did they just up and quit? Was it me? Were my reviews not good enough?! Did they die 😳?! Were they kidnapped? Do I need to file a missing persons report? Excuse me officer, there’s been 13 weekly updates and now nothing for months! Find them! What’s their name?! Name!?
