Golden Apprentice

We’re going to pretend I posted this yesterday, okay? And I know it’s terrible I’m sorry. I couldn’t think of a better title.

Cw: violence, restraints, manhandling, threats

A fist wound in the front of Sidekick’s uniform, slamming them back against the alleyway wall with enough force to knock the air from their lungs. Uneven edges of bricks clawed at their back, latching onto the fabric of their jacket like thorns.

Sidekick gasped, but they didn’t have a moment to draw in a breath before a fist struck their jaw, snapping their head to the side. Fire exploded along their face, radiating along their mouth and jolting up their cheek, painful enough to make their eyes water.

They brought their knee up in a barely formed defense, feeling like they were fighting a force a hundred times stronger than gravity. They met nothing but air.

The hand bunched in their uniform ripped them away from the wall before their leg could find purchase, throwing them against the ground. Gravel scraped their chin as Sidekick scrambled to catch themself, sparks of pain igniting across their palms as the rough ground embedded in their palms. Words caught in their throat, half-formed and trapped as they choked out only a strained wheeze in protest. They had barely gotten their hands beneath them, bracing to stumble to their feet when a strong pressure on their back shoved them back to the ground.

The Merry Whump of May—Day 3

“You’re not looking so hot.”

Lightbulb | Tension | Alleyway

Cw: abuse, assault, implied kidnapping, head trauma, slight elemental whump

Sidekick walked the streets, their jacket drawn tightly around them. The wind pushed at their back, icy claws raking down their spine as they fought to keep walking. Their hands were stuffed deep into their pockets, but that did nothing to fend off the stiffness settling into their joints, a numbness brewing beneath their fingertips that swelled to engulf their fingers, then their entire hands.

It wasn’t that late. Maybe nine or ten, they weren’t sure. A few hours after their patrol should have ended, they were sure. Their night route was usually easy, usually uneventful. Watch was higher in the evening and through the night, so most experienced criminals knew to lay low during those rush hours, so it was mostly dealing with drunks or street fights.

But no. Not tonight, things weren’t easy. Why would they have been? Considering Sidekick’s luck, they supposed it was nothing short of a miracle that they were able to walk away from a fight with Villain with only a few scrapes and bruises, and maybe a cracked rib, given how the pain in their side worsened with each heavy step and each breath they took a bit too deep. They had been so eager to get back home, to their little shared apartment with Hero, they hadn’t bothered to stop by the infirmary. They could breathe just fine, the pressure wasn’t growing unbearable. Some ice and ibuprofen, they’d be feeling fine in a couple days. They didn’t need to wait for Medic to finally make rounds on them, after treating all of the heroes who were actually injured.

Cw: threats, mentioned forced feeding, past abuse, starvation, kidnapping, trauma, manipulation

“You have to eat, kid,” Villain sighed, disappointment seeping unto their tone as they glanced at the untouched tray on Sidekick’s desk.

It had been four days since Sidekick’s “capture”, and Villain had yet to get them to eat anything. They were already thin to begin with—concerningly so. Their cheeks were sunken, their bones poking out from their skin. Villain was confident that if they lifted their shirt, they’d be able to count each of Sidekick’s ribs.

“Come on, just a few bites, then I’ll leave you alone,” Villain offered, setting the fresh plate down on the desk and picking up the old one.

From across the room, silently tucked into the corner, Sidekick shook their head.

Villain sighed again, watching as Sidekick withdrew themself further, pulling the blanket tighter around their malnourished frame. It had been a long battle getting Sidekick accustomed to the fact that Villain wasnt going to hurt them, and an even longer one to try and make them comfortable. For whatever reason, Sidekick refused to go anywhere near the bed, instead settling themself into the corner farthest from the door. It had taken a lot of convincing on Villain’s half, but they had finally gotten Sidekick to accept a blanket. Even though the room was temperature controlled, a cold draft always managed to sneak in.

“Look, sidekick,” Villain started, setting the old tray down for a moment. “I’m not going to sit here and let you starve. So, what’s the problem? Do you not like peas? Worried it’s poisoned? You know if I was going to kill you, I would’ve done it already, right? So-” Villain caught themself before the words “just tell me” managed to slip out. Sure, they were a villain, but that’d just be a whole different level of cruel mockery.

Villain waited a moment, watching as Sidekick pulled the blanket over their head.

“Kid, I don’t want to have to force you to eat,” They began again carefully, eyes locked on Sidekick’s hunched form. “But if you wont eat on your own..”

From under the blanket they could hear Sidekick draw in a breath, their eyes peeking out from deep within the folds of wool. Villain’s heart twisted as they watched tears well in Sidekick’s mistrustful gaze, but they had to stay strong.

Villain had tried bargaining. They had tried pleading and bribery, promising and sweet-talk, but nothing had seemed to work. Eventually, Villain had gotten to the point where their only choice was to speak in a language Sidekick clearly knew.

“Kid, I’ll leave if that’s what you’re worried about, but I am sick of wasting food. Now if you don’t start eating on your own, you know what happens? I drag you up to the infirmary and they shove a tube down your throat, deliver nutrients that way. Is that what you want? Cause if it is you could have saved me a lot of time here.” Though Villain’s voice raised only a fraction, it seemed to do the trick. Something in sidekick’s mind had flipped, villain realized with a sigh of relief as Sidekick slowly unraveled the blanket from around themself and stood up.

They stepped back, allowing Sidekick space as they slowly walked over to the desk, watching as they hesitated before the plate.

“Good,” Villain gave a stiff nod and quiet praise, taking another step back towards the door. “I’ll be back in half an hour. I want you to eat all of this food before then, or I’m going to take you to the infirmary. Understand?”

They waited, eyes boring into Sidekick’s until they gave a small nod.

And without another word, Villain left the room, shutting the door behind them.

Cw: sidekick referred to “kid”/“kiddo” but is 18+, mentioned torture and death, past noncon body mod, past abuse, captivity

Sidekick paced the length of the cell, their hands twisting together anxiously as they glanced around the room for the thousandth time.

Cement walls, flickering lights, security camera in the corner—it was exactly what was to be expected in the cellar of a villainous hideout.

They let out a frustrated huff, slumping down against the wall.

Shit, Hero was going to be pissed.

All week, sidekick had been “slacking” in training. They hadn’t been working to the standard which Hero demanded; they’d pulled a few punches, slowed a few kicks. And look where they were because of it. They knew exactly what would wait for them upon rescue.

Sidekick almost hoped Hero would never come for them.

Villain’s henchmen had been surprisingly gentle when transporting them. All throughout their training, Hero had taught them that getting captured was a death sentence, that Villain would kill them long before they ever got the chance to escape. They were told they’d be tortured, beaten within an inch to death and then a bit more, humiliated and dehumanized until Villain finally got bored and put them out of their misery.

So far, they had just been escorted to the cell—not even restrained—given water and told that Villain would be with them soon.

Hell, even the cell wasn’t that bad. A desk, a modest little toilet and sink—there was even a cot, topped off with a blanket and pillow. It was small, sure, but not uncomfortably so. They could move and pace, making them feel less… trapped.

Sidekick didnt dare touch the bed though. Even though it was cold, and they wanted nothing more than to wrap themself in the blanket and forget the day they just had, they didn’t want to risk getting comfortable. Comfortable meant letting their guard down, and letting their guard down meant nothing good.

There was no clock in the room, but Sidekick didn’t have to wait long before they heard the door click open. They quickly scrambled to their feet, standing up just as Villain walked in.

Sidekick wasn’t sure what they had been expecting. A knife, a whip, hell, just Villain. But never had they expected their boss’s enemy, the criminal mastermind to walk in, wearing normal clothes and free from a mask, carrying a tray of steaming food.

“Hey kiddo,” Villain greeted, crossing the room to set the tray down on the desk. “Sorry for the wait. You holding up okay?”

Sidekick faltered, their eyes going wide. What the hell…?

Villain chuckled, stepping aside and motioning towards the food. “Not what you expected?”

Sidekick just shook their head, swallowing dryly as they pressed a bit further against the wall. What was going on?? Why was villain being so… kind?!?

“Look, kid, I don’t know what Hero told you, but I’m not gonna hurt you.” Villain crossed their arms, their eyes full of nothing but concern as they watched Sidekick’s gaze dart between themself and the tray. “Its not poisoned if that’s what you’re worried about.”

Potentially poisoned food was just about the last of Sidekick’s worries at thay time, but they must have made a face, because Villain moved back towards the tray, picking up a single green bean and popping it in their mouth.

“See?” They swallowed, leaving back against the wall. “Not poisoned. I’m many things, Sidekick, but I promise you I’m not a liar.”

A moment of tense, awkward silence passed before Villain let out a long sigh.

“Would you just say something, kid? It feels like I’m talking to myself here.”

Sidekick’s face went pale, and they shook their head, huddling further in the corner. Fuck, fuck, fuck-

Villain groaned, pushing up off the wall in a quick movement and crossing the room. Sidekick’s breath hitched, their eyes going wide as Villain quickly approached.

“Just talk to me, kid,” Villain stopped just in front of them, every thought in their mind screeching to a dead halt as their eyes fell to Sidekick’s neck.

More specifically, the thin pink scar etched deep into their skin.

“Shit,” They breathed, everything beginning to click into place as Sidekick cowered.

Shit.

Pins and Needles

Okay I see all the continuation requests but rn im really in the mood for new stuff so- if anyone has requests feel free to send them lol

(I’ll get to them one day I promise <3)

Cw: hand whump, captivity, restraints, abuse, torture, needles, bruises

The room was poorly lit and cold, goosebumps dotted along Sidekick’s exposed skin. They shivered, squinting through the darkness as they tried to look around Villain’s back to see whatever they were fiddling with on the table, hidden from their view.

“Wha- whadd’ya doin?” Their voice dragged out, slurred through their swollen lips. A drop of bloody saliva trickled down their chin, dripping to stain the tattered neckline of their shirt.

Villain just chuckled, turning a moment later so Sidekick could see what they held.

Their breath caught.

In their gloved hands, Villain held a relatively small, clear plastic case, nearly overflowing with… sewing needles?!

Sidekick blinked quickly, trying to clear the tears from their bruised eyes, sure that their vision was betraying them.

Villain hadn’t been at all gentle getting them to where they were now. At every little stumble, every little sound that slipped from Sidekick’s lips as they were dragged blindfolded through the halls of Villain’s compound had only earned them a swift punch to the face, a kick to the back. Their entire body throbbed painfully, their skin swallowed by one big, angry bruise.

“Now,” Villain’s voice was cool snd smooth, their expression a mask of cold indifference as they knelt down by the chair which Sidekick was tied to, plucking a single needle free from the container. “You are going to tell me everything you know about the agency.”

Sidekick’s breath hitched, their bloodshot eyes going wide as Villain brought the needle up to their pinkie finger, the tip digging into the joint just enough to draw a drop of blood.

“Sure these don’t seem like much,” The criminal hummed, filling the void of Sidekick’s silence. “One, two, oh they’re tolerable..”

Sidekick let out a small whimper as the needle was pressed into their finger, a small prick of agony shooting through their restrained hand and up their arm.

“But tens, hundreds of them,” Villain chuckled, their lips twitching back into a cruel grin as they watched tears brim in Sidekick’s eyes, readying another needle. “You’ll find that they are quite unbearable.”

June 15th- Back-Alley Medicine

Short but im tired deal w it

Cw: gunshot wound, wound care, crying, uhhh abuse, potential murder, maybe ish implied death, idk, emotions

Hero’s composure cracked, their stoic expression breaking into pure concern as they slowly eased Sidekick to the ground.

A small whimper of pain made their heart twist, an awful cold beginning to creep through the pits of their chest as an even worse warmth began to coat their palms. Blood, hot, sticky blood flowed freely from the deep wound in Sidekick’s chest, soaking through Hero’s gloves.

“Shh, shhh honey its okay,” Hero soothed quietly, pulling Sidekick’s head into their lap. They blinked hard, forcing back their own tears as they raised a hand, quickly pulling off their mask.

Somewhere in the battle, Sidekick’s own had been removed, likely ripped off by one of Villain’s henchmen if the scratches along their jaw and cheeks were anything to go by.

Sidekick’s eyes flicked up to meet theirs, their gaze watery and glazed.

“Hh’ro..?” They breathed, a tear slipping from the corner of their eye and trailing up their temple.

“Yeah- yeah Sidekick, it’s me, I’m right here buddy,” Hero whispered, quickly yanking off the outermost later of their uniform, the armored jacket, before tearing off a long strip of their shirt. “Just breathe, honey, it- it’ll all be alright..”

Sidekick nodded ever so slightly, a small hiss of pain slipping from their chapped lips as Hero pressed the ragged cloth against the bullet wound, desperately trying to stop the bleeding.

“Just- just hold on for a bit longer, bud, Healer’s- they’re on their way..”

June 5th- “Sing to me, please?”

I have a theory… time to test it

Cw: possible death, murder, stabbing, angst, blood, crying, sad, feel like I’m missing something

A sob slipped from Hero’s lips as they clutched the limp form closer to their body, trembling fingers pressed tightly against their apprentice’s chest.

“Sidekick, st-stay with me-” Hero’s voice cracked, tears distorting their vision as warm, sticky blood soaked through the thick material of their gloves.

Below them, Sidekick let out a whimper, their clouded eyes unseeing as they gazed into the distance.

“Ple-please Sidekick, help- help is coming,” Hero promised, their other hand moving to clumsily push Sidekick’s bangs from their forehead. Stroking their hair, providing them with as much comfort as they could in these terrible moments.

Above them, thunder rolled across a dark sea of clouds as a bolt of lightning split the sky, for a moment illuminating the stain of scarlet that soaked the front of Sidekick’s uniform.

Somewhere in the far distance, a siren wailed.

“Come- cmon sidekick- please- please hold on,” Hero begged as tears streamed down their flushed cheeks, cutting pathways through the blood and grime. All of their own pain faded to the back of their mind, their bruised bones and tired muscles no longer meaning a thing.

Nothing meant a thing when their best friend was dying in their arms.

Sidekick’s breath hitched, the fog behind their eyes dissipating in a moment of clarity.

He-hero-” They rasped, their pupils dilating as they focused on their mentor’s face.

May 14th- “Trust me, you don’t wanna do that”

[ransom | fire poker | bleeding]

Cw: kidnapping, restraints, knives, death threats, wounds, bruises, noncon touching, man handling

Villain’s hand roughly carded through Sidekick’s hair, twisting the strands as they yanked the rookie hero’s head up, making sure their face was on full display to the recording camera.

“Would you look at what the car dragged in,” Villain barked out a laugh as they yanked Sidekick’s head to the side, presenting the array of scrapes and bruises that littered their swollen face.

Sidekick let out a small whimper at the movement, their limbs straining against the ropes that wound around their body as blood trickling from a small cut on their forehead into their eye.

“You know what I want, Hero.” Villain’s grin dropped, their entire composure shifting as they grabbed sidekick by the jaw, forcing their head back towards the camera, fishing in their pocket with their other hand and pulling out a pocket knife. “And you know where to leave it.”

Sidekick’s breath hitched as they felt the sickle fly sharp tip of the blade dig into their throat.

“You have twelve hours to get it to me, or I’ll make sure you never see your precious little sidekick ever again.”

May 13th- “Wait right here”

[betrayl | pistol | nowhere in particular]

Cw: kidnapping, death threats, gun, noncon touching, concussion, knocked unconscious, mentioned murders, irresponsible mentor figure

Sidekick couldn’t move.

Their fingers had long since gone numb with the cold, exhaustion paralyzing their extremities. Their lungs had gone still, a breath caught in their throat begging to be let out with the burning pain of a thousand fires searing their chest. Not even their eyes moved, frozen wide in terror, locked on those of their assailant.

“Oh poor, precious, stupid Sidekick,” Supervillain sighed. A grin twitched at the corners of their lips, barely visible through the inky darkness of the night as they used the muzzle of their piston to tilt the young hero’s chin up. “Who let you come out here all on your own?”

Sidekick couldn’t think, much less bring themself to answer the criminal’s question. They let out a shuddering breath, eyes flicking from Supervillain’s own to their smirk, a terrible wave of dread beginning to twist their stomach.

Unlike Sidekick, they weren’t wearing a mask. Supervillain didn’t wear a mask.

Somehow, that made Sidekick feel exposed.

If there was one thing, one fact known amongst the crime fighters of the city, it was that no one saw supervillain’s face and was around long enough to tell the tale. It was how they had gone undetected for months, years. Anyone who was even rumored to have any sort of information on them disappeared. Gone without a trace.

“My, you’re adorable,” Supervillain’s expression softened, though their eyes glinted with amusement. “I wonder, why would Hero send you? I’m sure they know how… foolish it is entering my territory, all alone none the less.”

Sidekick couldn’t help the small whimper that slipped from their lips as Supervillain trailed the gun up, tracing the cold metal along Sidekick’s jawline.

A low chuckle startled them, making sidekick flinch as Supervillain dragged the gun up to Sidekick’s head, pressing the muzzle against their forehead.

“Oh you really are something,” They reached forwards with their other hand, their gloved fingers wrapping around Sidekick’s jaw, holding their head firmly in place. “I don’t think I’d be able to kill something this… pitiful.”

They had barely registered their words before Supervillain pulled the gun back and slammed the barrel into the side of their skull.

A burst of light exploded in front of Sidekick’s eyes, before the world went pitch black and they knew no more.

Bingo card and other prompt fills here

I know I write the same three tropes all the time but I can’t help it aaaah

Cw: implied abuse, creepy/intimate whumper, threats, taunting, non-con touching (non sexual), pet names

“Go ahead, run.” Villain stepped closer, and Sidekick took a step back, then another, until their back hit against the brick alleyway wall. “Run back to your Hero, like you always do.”

Sidekick whimpered as Villain stepped closer, until they were right up against them, but not quite touching.

“Run back to Hero and get help. We both know you’re too weak to fight me on your own.” Villain placed a hand right by Sidekick’s head, leaning their face in close. “You’re too weak.”

“Stop- stop it, you’re just trying to get in-into my head.” Sidekick squeezed their eyes, barely breathing as Villain chuckled, ghosting a knuckle along Sidekick’s jaw.

“That I am. Hero’s trained you well. Like a little puppy,” Villain booped their nose, and Sidekick looked up at Villain with bewildered, fearful eyes. “I doubt they even know you’re here, in my territory. Tell me, puppy, just how tight of a leash do they keep you on?”

“Wh- what?” Sidekick’s cheeks flushed red, and they were intensely glad for the mask that was covering their face.

“It’s obvious Hero is very protective of their little toy,” Villain practically purred.

“I- I’m not their toy!” Sidekick sputtered, cringing their head away as Villain laughed, a cruel, harsh sound.

“Puppy, I’ve seen the bruises on you. Bruises that weren’t from me. And something tells me that they weren’t from Supervillain, either.”

“I, uh-“

“And I know Hero has that little… thing going on with Civilian,” Villain rolled their eyes. “They don’t seem like someone who’d cheat. So there’s absolutely no reason you should have injuries like you do.”

“What do you want, Villain?” Sidekick blurted, flinching back as Villain grabbed them by the chin, pressing their head back against the wall.

“I want to know why the fuck Hero is hurting you.”

“Hero- they aren’t-“

“You seriously underestimate my intelligence, and my ability to spy on people,” Villain hissed, digging their fingers into Sidekick’s cheek. “I suggest you tell me before I resort to having to break your ribs.”

Snippet #26

CW: character death (not really a minor character but not a major one either), murder, cursing

Sidekick had known that there was something seriously wrong with the new superhero in town. They knew it since they first saw Superhero, when they were trying to calmly deescalate a bank robbery. Their boss, Hero, had always taught Sidekick to use violence and their abilities as a last resort, and never attack first.

Sidekick had been talking to the robber, who’s pistol was in their hand, hanging limply by their side. Sidekick had the entire situation under control, all of the other people in the bank had gotten out, it was just them and Robber. That is, until Superhero decided to burst through the fucking ceiling. In less than a second Superhero had moved behind Robber, and snapped their neck.

cw: betrayal (kinda), torture, drowning, manhandling

Sidekick cautiously stepped into Hero’s office, eyes darting around the room, finally settling on where their mentor sat, lounging in their large desk chair. The door slammed shut behind Sidekick, and the lock slid into place with a terrible click that seemed to seal their fate as well.

“Take a seat,” Hero straightened, setting the remote back on their desk.

Sidekick swallowed nervously, but settled themself into the smaller chair placed in front of Hero’s desk.

“What- uh, what can I do for you?” Sidekick cringed at how their voice squeaked.

Hero studied Sidekick for a moment before they pulled a file out from inside the bottom drawer of their desk. Opening it, Hero spread out several photographs.

Sidekick looked at them, their heart sinking.

"Mind telling me why you consistently meet up with Villain, my archnemesis?" Hero's voice was heavy, dangerous. One wrong move, Sidekick knew, would earn them pain like they had never before experienced, pain beyond what they could imagine. They could barely begin to fathom what Hero was capable of.

Sidekick stared up at Hero, hands shaking. "Hero, I-" They faltered, not knowing what to say. The truth? No, that would get them killed. Tortured slowly, before Hero finally decided to put them out of their misery and end their life.

Hero stood up, their chair’s legs screeching against the wood, making Sidekick cringe. "It doesn't matter what excuse you give me now, Sidekick," Hero growled, anger lacing their tone like venom. "I will get the truth out of you, sooner or later. And I'll make sure you regret going anywhere near Villain."

Sidekick stumbled up, out of their chair, but it was too late. Hero’s hand darted forwards, and grabbed a fistful of their hair, as Hero dragged Sidekick across the room to the large fish tank positioned against a wall.

“Stop-, Hero, please!” Sidekick cried as Hero wrenched their arms behind their back, binding them in place with the special power inhibiting cuffs Hero always had by their side. “Please, He-” Sidekick’s cry was cut off as their head was shoved under the cold water, a billion bubbles exploding from their mouth and nose as they screamed out of instinct.

All around Sidekick, battle raged. Gunshots and screams filled the air, bullets whizzing by their body, missing by mere inches.

A dull agony pounded their skull, their vision blurred with tears, smoke from the burning wreckage filling their lungs and making it hard to breathe.

“Hero!” Sidekick screamed, calling for their friend and mentor. They were supposed to stay by their side, but in the chaos of the battle, Sidekick had gotten separated by Villain’s men. “Hero!”

For the longest moment, the only thing Sidekick could hear was their own heartbeat pounding in their ears.

Then, “Sidekick!”

“Hero!” Sidekick cried, kicking back one of Villain’s henchmen as they tried to attack. “Where are you?”

“Over here!” Hero called from somewhere to their far left. Sidekick turned, their eyes darting as they tried to locate their boss.

Sidekick’s heart nearly stopped when they saw them. Covered in blood, fighting at least five of Villain’s henchmen, Hero was barely staying alive.

Sidekick gasped as an arm hooked around their chest, a blade coming up to meet their throat.

“Well, well, Sidekick, I must say, you’ve put up quite a fight,” Villain purred in their ear as Sidekick stiffened. “Looks like we’re just in time for the show,” They chuckled, as their henchmen brought Hero to their knees.

“Villain,” Sidekick swallowed, a lump forming in their throat as they watched one of the henchmen pull their gun, pointing at Hero’s skull before looking to Villain for further instruction. “Let me go.”

“Right at the climax?” Villain sounded appalled. “Why, you can’t miss this!” Their eyes darkened, as a maniacal grin curled across their lips.

“Kill them.” They ordered Henchman, and Sidekick screamed.

Gripping their locks of hair, Hero yanked Sidekick’s head out from under the surface, watching as they drew in a sharp breath, coughing violently to try and rid the water from their lungs.

“You can do better than that,” Hero said, their fingers tightening in Sidekick’s hair. Pain stung through Sidekick’s scalp as their chest heaved with deep breaths, spluttering cold liquid from their lips. Sidekick couldn’t breathe. The fire in their lungs was agony, and with each futile breath they attempted to clutch to, their vision went spotty.

Whumpmas Day 12

Prompt chosen: abandoned

Cw: stabbed, hostage, murder, fighting, knife, weapons, blood, threats, kidnapping

Hero and Sidekick were terribly, pitifully outnumbered. Villain’s dozens of henchmen flooded the scene—they just kept coming! Every time Hero would knock one down, two more would attack, all dressed in the same dark uniform and mask, Hero feet like they were fighting a swarm of ants.

Hero was getting exhausted. Their blows got sloppy, and their patience wore thin. What used to aim to knock out became fatal blows.

“Stop hiding behind your minions!” Hero yelled, as they drove their weapon through some poor person’s chest. “Fight me yourself you coward!”

If Villain heard them, they didn’t respond. Hero had lost track of Sidekick minutes ago, but that wasn’t near the top of their worries. Sidekick knew how to fight, and if they couldn’t hold off against Villain’s poorly trained men, then they didn’t deserve the position they held.

A minute or so later, a small scream cut through the sounds of the fight, followed by Villain’s booming voice. “STAND DOWN!” Villain yelled, and instantly, all of their henchmen surged backwards, away from Hero and the carnage that surrounded them.

Villain broke through their ranks, dragging a person behind them by the hair. Hero’s heart skipped a beat as Villain threw Sidekick to their knees, pressing their blade against Sidekick’s throat.

Hero’s initial shock was replaced with anger, as they stared at Sidekick’s bloody, abused face. Their mask was gone. Sidekick’s wide, fearful eyes met Hero’s, and the later looked away.

“Put your weapon down, Hero, and I’ll let your precious sidekick go,” Villain shouted, digging their weapon into Sidekick’s neck, and a small line of crimson rose to view. “They’re not going to make it much longer without medical attention.”

“What are you talking-“ Hero trailed off as their eyes flicked over Sidekick’s body, landing on their side. More specifically, the knife buried in their side up to its hilt.

“Choose, Hero,” Villain pulled a pair of power dampening cuffs from their belt, and tossed them towards Hero, where they landed with a clatter at their feet. “Put these on yourself and surrender, or watch Sidekick bleed out. Your freedom or their life?”

Hero glanced between the cuffs and Villain, before back at Sidekick’s trembling frame. They twisted their head, looking around. All of Villain’s henchmen had migrated to behind Villain, waiting for their next orders. Hero then looked over their shoulder. An empty street.

They didn’t look back at Sidekick as they took off in the other direction.

Villain cursed loudly, pulling the blade from Sidekick’s neck. “Follow them!” Villain yelled, slapping their own forehead as a stampede of footsteps raced after Hero.

Villain crouched down, and scooped Sidekick’s beaten form into their arms, shushing them as they whimpered and cried.

“Quiet, I’m not going to hurt you anymore,” Villain’s tone became a bit softer, as they turned on their heel and began the walk back to their van, careful not to disturb the knife still sticking out of Sidekick’s side.

Cw: implied kidnapping, can be interpreted as implied murder, nonverbal threats

.•° ✿ °•.

Sidekick knew it was dangerous walking through Villain’s territory alone, especially at night, but they had to. They were short on time, and their usual route from the community college to Hero’s base took too long.

They had been in a rush getting out the door, though. They didn’t have anything to defend themself with, not even a pocket knife.

They had taken this particular shortcut a few times before, they would cut through a few alleys, and return to the good side of the city. Nothing should have been different.

Everything was going great in fact, until they got caught with a knife to their throat.

“Now what’s Hero’s little sidekick doing out here, all alone?” Villain practically purred in their ear, a shiver of disgust creeping up Sidekick’s spine.

“I don’t- I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Sidekick grit out, forcing their voice to stay steady, though their throat threatened to close. “I’m not-“

“Save it, Sidekick. I’ve known who you are for quite some time now. You don’t think I haven’t seen you walking through my streets before? Villain hissed in their ear, their blade digging into the tender skin of Sidekick’s neck, as they sucked in a breath, a bead of blood dripping from the shallow wound.

“I don’t mean any trouble,” Sidekick kept their eyes straight ahead, chin tilted up away from the knife to keep from slitting their own throat. They bit their tongue as a hand slipped into their jacket pocket, and pulled out their phone.

“I don’t suppose Hero knows about this little detour you like to take?” Villain asked, as they completely powered off the phone.

For the first time in a while, Sidekick felt fear begin to take an icy hold on them.

Prompt 8

Hero’s Sidekick and Villain’s Sidekick are in love. Neither Hero nor Villain know, and their sidekicks don’t dare tell them out of fear for what their bosses would do to them. It was no secret that Hero and Villain positively loathed each other, and given the chance would not hesitate to drive a knife through the other’s heart.

One day, H.Sidekick and V.Sidekick are out late at dusk together. It’s H.Sidekick’s day off, and V.Sidekick told Villain that they were out robbing some store. The night was chilly, but not uncomfortably so, and it gave them an excuse to cuddle close to each other on the high rooftop of some office building, as they watched the sun set over the city scape.

Neither of them knew what happened. One minute they were sitting next to each other, the next they were being ripped away. H.Sidekick cried out in fear as a knife was brought to their throat, pressing so hard against their skin that a bead of crimson blood rolled down their neck.

Multiple pairs of hands wrapped around V.Sidekick’s body, pinning their arms behind their back, and forcing them to their knees. Villain’s henchmen stood all around them, weapons drawn.

“Well, well, well,” Villain drawled out, as they pressed the knife a bit harder into H.Sidekick’s throat. “Mind explaining exactly what is going on here?”
