A storm was coming.
As Mathias left the room, shutting the door behind himself with a soft click, Kaden felt themself drawn to the window. The curtains had been drawn closed, layers of thick, dark velvet blocking out every sliver of natural light. With a single, smooth movement, Kaden pulled them aside.
The world outside was dark. They could feel a stiff sort of light trying to break through the dark canvas of clouds, but all that resulted in was an eerie sort of illumination which didn’t allow much sight. It was true, what Mathias had said. The first of many raindrops were just beginning to fall, a harsh wind that shook the tree branches outside blowing them against the panes of glass. Almost instinctively, Kaden found themself reaching for the latch. They always loved the chill of the breeze, the feel of the rain from the comforts of the indoors, but they stopped themself. For whatever reason, they were sure that that would just make Mathias upset.
Pulling the curtains closed, they crossed the room to the door that led to the bathroom.
True to their suspicions, the bathroom was just as they had expected. Large. Though there were no windows, the clean white tiles that covered the floor allowed for that to be overlooked, creating an open feel. A walk in shower took up nearly a quarter of the room, a pristine white bath tub built into a small enclave in the walls. A large mirrored vanity supported a bowl sink, the cabinets below open to reveal fresh, fluffy towels, cloths, and containers sealed with what appeared to be bandages and other means of first aid. Hanging from a hook just by the door, a plain, yet clearly expensive robe was placed. It all felt so… clean. Kaden was afraid to touch anything for fear of dirtying the entire room.
Carefully, shutting the door behind them—noting how there was no lock—and stepping across to the shower. The off-white bath mat was soft beneath their bare feet, in a way that was clear it had never been used.
What kind of rich person bullshit was this…
