You know, there’s something that’s been bothering me about Caleb, and I’ve finally determined what it is:
As much as I enjoy his PTSD flare-ups when he uses fire to kill someone, I get some major cognitive dissonance from the fact that he’s super fine using suggestion and other mind-affecting spells to get people to behave the way he wants them to.
Honestly though, I mean . . . of course Fjord helped Caleb despite their standoff? There was literally nothing surprising about that. Was he going to give a whole speech about the need for them to act as a team and then leave one of his fallen party members in order to save himself? Nothing about Fjord’s character to date has made that seem like even a remote possibility.
He gave Caleb a choice: take the scroll or remain a part of the team. Caleb didn’t take the scroll (obviously Nott did, but that’s another thing altogether), ergo he was still part of the team. Of course Fjord helped him. I mean. Of course.
I anticipate some fallout over Caleb’s attempted theft and the implications it has for their continued trust and functioning as a group, but I seriously doubt that Fjord is going to stop watching out for his team until someone makes it clear they’re not part of that team anymore.
