Decked Out - Wild In The Parks
Mental Snap
Conceptual Portrait Assignment
I think it's safe to say that most skateboarders can certainly relate to this moment. Why is it that these pieces of wood can make us turn into the incredibly hulk in less then two seconds? Why is it that we continue to throw ourselves down sets of stairs, only to end up at the bottom screaming like a mental case? And why do we put ourselves in situations where a not so simple handrail becomes acquainted with our family jewels? Why? It is all because of passion.
There is something about landing a trick you've been trying for countless hours that is wonderfully satisfying. There is something about the almost euphoric moment of flying through the air or flying down a busy street, lined with a stampede of pedestrians and vehicles. This adrenaline feeling, is a feeling that most of us yearn for. This feeling cannot be defeated.
Sure we go home sometimes, frustrated with cuts, bruises, and sore body joints. Or even worse, a broken bone. Skateboarding seems to have an unbeatable feeling that drives us to continue doing what we do, even if it means shredding off some skin in the mean time.
It's fascinating how a piece of wood, a turning system, and four wheels can be so gratifying.
