I’m sure all you Tumblr users have heard by now about the changes being made to Tumblr’s ecosystem so that the site can make more money. And I’m sure most of you are as uneasy as I am or, in fact, are angry about the proposed changes.

The reason they need to make more money is simple: Tumblr is $30 million USD in debt.

For this site to run and for them to pay employees, the site needs to generate revenue.

This place maybe a hellsite but it’s our hellsite. We are still here because we actually like it here. Besides, the other social media sites are crashing or will crash soon. Where else would we go?

Now, I did some research. There are at least 300 million users and over 500 million blogs. One of the cheapest things to buy on the Tumblr store is the crab package you can gift to another blog, which is $3 USD.

If each and everyone of us buys a crab package, we get to keep Tumblr alive and kicking. @oracleoutlook suggested that we make a holiday of it on July 29th. It seems to have resonated with people. Others have also asked for that to extend to August 5th, as some people don’t get paid til the beginning of the month.

Many people have already agreed to celebrate July 29th as Crab Day, a day of posting crab memes and gifting crabs to other users. And if you cannot afford to buy crabs, that is a-okay! Participate in the crab memes. Who would pass up the chance to make and reblog memes about crabs, after all?

This hellsite is ours. Let us remind them of that.

listening to Gravity Falls episode commentaries is great. Alex Hirsch nearly worked himself to death constantly. Grunkle Stan was nearly voiced by Matt Chapman of Homestar Runner. Literally nothing aside from the twist about Stan having a twin was planned more than a few episodes in advance. The zodiac wheel meant nothing and consisted of random symbols from the first 7 episodes because the intro was animated after those were done. Alex came up with the term “search for the blind eye” to be an extra bit for the between-season shorts before deciding to actually have a payoff for that setup and writing Society of the Blind Eye. Bill was meant to be a joke character and when Alex suggested that he be a real villain Michael Rianda responded “You, my friend, have lost the plot.” Bill getting one episode in the spotlight was basically chance and he only became the main villain of season 2 because he was so popular with the fans. The reveal of the portal at the end of season 1 was suggested by Mike without thinking it through and he left before the next season and the other writers were SO ANNOYED after that went through because they somehow had to keep that plot going for the 10 episodes it’d take to actually pay off. I am genuinely astonished that this show came together as well as it did at all.

By the way – this is a good time to let folks know that all of the DVD commentaries (including the “hidden” ones) are currently available in this YouTube playlist.

(They have been up on YT before, and removed. Highly recommend that folks download them off YT and save them, now that the DVD sets are out of print.)

Tiffany is clearly very new to all of this and I think she is very VERY inexperienced in fandom places and fandom in general and doesnt seem to understand what the OTW is doing/what fandom really is/ how AO3 works, and why. She has no place on the OTW.

Hey y'all I made a spreadsheet/script that will help you quickly generate bingo cards for fandom events. Here's a video walking you through how to use it.

There's also written directions in the spreadsheet itself, which are uh, actually more complete, but probably harder to follow? IDK. Its free. I highlighted a few items in the directions that I know I didn't mention in the video. They're small things.

The last five or so minutes of the video are me sort of rambling about computer literacy and pointing vaguely at the script itself, so feel free to skip that portion. I'm not great at video making.

You can also see me screwing up using the spreadsheet while taking this video. That's absolutely me showing you what not to do, and not me being distracted.

I already fixed one of the bugs I found misusing the spreadsheet lol. Now if you fail to select a prompt list for a participant, it just tells you.
