Greetings from the Youtubes
What I’ve been doing recently, you might ask, when I wasn’t celebrating the Christmases? NOT really been on Tumblr and NOT watched BL shows, for a change. Mostly because I need to knit my mom a replacement shawl (she lost the one I made her two years ago), which means no subtitles because I need to focus at least a little bit on what my hands are doing. ;)
Jessica I’m not so shocked about, considering she talks about a lot of things I can really relate to (being a clinically depressed queer woman with a not-so-secret love for vintage style); but while I’ve always loved history, if you’d told me a few months ago that I’d be spending literally hours watching some crafty ladies talk about wearing corsets or sowing a historically-accurate Lady Sherlock costume... It’s almost like my beloved ASMR videos, so soothing. Also at times surprisingly hilarious.
The greatest danger is to my bank account, really, because since I can’t sow to save my life, I keep wanting to buy vintage-inspired clothing. Which is entirely counterproductive to my vacation-goal of finally clearing out my closet. Which I did get a good start on already, though.
I’ve already liberated 3 garbage bags of stuff, and I’m only about halfway through my massive wardrobe - and still have plenty left after my half-assed, improvised version of KonMari. (It’s not so much that I’m a clothing shopaholic but that I never throw anything out that still fits me and isn’t falling apart, so there’s literally approximately 15 years of stuff there. Most of my clothes are cheapish and shamefully not ethically sourced, but somehow I can make even the fastest fashion last years. I have one knit H&M sweater that I got when I was 12 - back then, over 25 years ago, it was a tent under which I wanted to hide my newly pubescent body, now it fits me perfectly. *g*)
