One of the most underrated moments in Endwalker is in Labyrinthos, where Hydaelyn/Venat is speaking through Krile and tells the WoL that she carried Minfilia and another’s soul from the First back to the Source personally.

The other soul? Emet-Selch.

I can’t help but wonder if she did this for two reasons.

For one - guilt. She knew Emet-Selch learned of his future and the Final Days and was horrified by what would happen and what he’d become. Then, his memory was wiped. She probably felt guilty for allowing him to live in the future he’d do anything to escape.

For two - an apology. Because her decisions allowed him to suffer a pain so great that it destroyed his humanity, she refused to leave him in the First where the two people he loved the most (Azem and Hythlodaeus) weren’t around. Instead, they both were in the Source. She knew she couldn’t give him back the past he loved, but she could give him the hope of a future where they’d be together again.
