Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal | Tuesday, 11.12.24
A little late on posting this, though, but remember when Sega and Sanzaru Games released the critically panned 2D platformer, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal 10 years ago as a Nintendo 3DS exclusive?
Not only was the game poorly received by most video game critics, but was also deemed a commercial failure alongside its home console companion game, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (exclusively for the Wii U) since the combined sales between the two games almost reached 630,000 copies worldwide. Despite that, Sanzaru Games (known for remastering the first 3 Sly Cooper games as part of The Sly Collection and later developed Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time exclusively for the PS3 and PS Vita systems between 2010 through 2014) collaborated with Sega once again when they released its handheld-only sequel, Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice worldwide in October 2016 exclusively for the 3DS handheld system to accommodate the 25th anniversary of the Sonic series.
And, as of 2023 (last year), EVERY 3DS and Wii U game has been either delisted or removed from the Nintendo eShop entirely, making Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal amongst those games no longer available for digital purchase through official means.
Metacritic score: 47/100
