*slow clapping*
“our nation’s borderline pathological distrust of young black men.” Other than the fact that I think it’s wholehearted rather than borderline, damn Colbert was unafraid to cut to the heart of the issue.
This is why I love Stephen Colbert.
The link goes to an audio file of the ABC7 Chicago Broadcast, more details as I can find them.
Another poster provided this additional link to the full video report. This is the first I’ve heard of a call made by Trayvon, which is extreemly interesting to me. I’ve been wondering where his phone had gotten off to. The first reports had only the ice tea and Skittles listed as his posessions. Then we hear he was on the phone with a young lady at the time (which I think accounts for why he was “walking slowly” in the rain). I wondered why he had not called 911, since he was being followed. Now, there may be a call.
As time goes on, more and more information is coming to light that is just making this police department look incredibly inept or shows that they had a blatant disregard in the investigation of this young boy’s death. Three days. It took three days for his family to find his body and he was shot within 70 feet of his home. And there was a cell phone. What is that? What was so hard about tracking down the family through the phone? Was it not recovered at the scene? Why not? Who hid it? These are questions that still have no answer. This is what creates national outrage.
I can honestly say that this is the first time a political cartoon has made me tear up.
