Cinder Barham: The Firecracker
Passionate, empathetic, friendly, and vibrant, but can be overly sensitive and defensive
Youngest brother of Ramiel and Leith, uncle of Coco; fiancee to Vinti
In particularly terrible bouts of gender dysphoria, he used to give himself minor burns, but was eventually able to stop with counseling and support from the guild. Now, when he gets the urge, he submerges his hands in chilled water for a few seconds to bring him back to reality and does yoga to keep his mind off of it.
I have poured a LOT of love and thought into this character. Not only is he the youngest of the 3 founding members of the Chalcedon guild, but he’s FAR younger. There’s a 12-year difference between him and his closest sibling, Leith. Not only that, but he “wasn’t born the right gender,” as he says, and without powers so there’s a lot of distance. His fire magic was granted to him when he was just three years old by the Grandmaster of Fire and Water, Edan, but he doesn’t remember the encounter because Valdis, the Grandmaster of Psychic and Combat, had to wipe his memory of them. All of this sometimes adds up to Cinder not believing he’s really their brother, but his fears are always soothed when he’s reminded that he indeed has the undeniably timberwolf-grey eyes of a Barham. So, at the end of the day, he loves his brothers and would do just about anything for them.
Cinder’s the kind of person who’s really easy to spot in a crowd. His style and personality is so loud and fun that he’s often compared to fireworks. By nature, he’s really expressive, so it’s not hard to know how he’s feeling at any given moment. This makes him very vocal, so if something ticks him off, he’ll say so immediately. No censor. No bullshit. Lmao so arguments between himself and Ramiel break out pretty frequently. Ram will unknowingly say something insensitive, Cinder will call him out for it, and yadda yadda back-and-forth until someone (usually Leith) breaks them up. In extra-passionate arguments, they’ll even go so far as to battle it out at the guild’s training ground.
Speaking of fighting, if Cinder’s style isn’t flashier than Ramiel’s it’s definitely LOUDER. He can cast spheres of pent-up energy from his hands that explode into rounds of sparks and flame, leaving smoke and ash particles behind. He uses this side effect to his advantage, as he can disorient his opponent with the blasts and subsequently hide in the smoke. (Dw, his fire aspect gives him a resistance to the damaging effects of smoke to his eyes and lungs ^^) He doesn’t just rely on his powers, though - he knows how to throw punch or 3. He will not hesitate to throw hands if he feels like his honor as a man is being threatened, which includes people bashing on the people close to him.
Despite his tough guy attitude, he’s actually really soft. Not like, personality-wise, but literally soft. His hair, his clothes, even his skin feels like bunny’s fur. And he doesn’t even try! Don’t try to pet him though - he bites. LmaO
