Haha no but in all honesty, when he created the Rulers they like…just appeared as teens/adults already, so Riku technically didn’t even get to have a childhood, which is pretty depressing now that I think about it. But yeah, they accepted that as part of their fate, they were created to protect their world in that moment, so they couldn’t necessarily be created as small children? Riku does get to make up for that years and years later when he has to take care of a younger Shima though, he basically gets to have a childhood with her as she grows up ^^

Haha yes, a lot of my OCs are actually quite similar if you compare them…^^; I try to make them as unique and special as I can but sometimes there’s a couple traits that carry over. Of course in most cases it’s okay; for example if you know ATS well then you probably know how protective Riku is of Shima, eventually both Colin and Fyuuki develop this same protectiveness as well–it’s not exactly the same in how they convey it, but they all feel a strong sense of overprotectiveness when it concerns her! Riku is slightly different in that he’s Shima’s guardian and best friend and he’s been with her since she was very young, so he feels a sort of duty and role to protect her (not to mention the whole Shizu incident as well, that fact makes him even more protective). Colin and Fyuuki are her close friends and teammates, as since she’s the leader of Team Star they also have a duty to defend her and protect her when she’s in danger. The rest of Team Star feel this way as well, and not just about Shima, they all feel it for each other–but Colin and Fyuuki witnessed firsthand how completely naive and innocent Shima is since she is totally ignorant of how the outside world works…so they know they have to look out for her, just like they look out for Celeste too. They’re both like the big brother types, except with totally opposite personalities XD

Another thing would be that whenever I make an OC I always try to make a companion for them, someone that they can be with romantically? And I know that realistically, not every one of my OCs should end up with somebody, the real world doesn’t work that way, but I do it because I’m a sucker for romance and I just like seeing all of my children loved and happy >m

I also feel that a lot of my boy OCs look really similar, idk maybe that’s just me personally but…! Yeah I guess I subconsciously just…make them all look the same since that sort of look appeals to me the most  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hmm! That depends! Sometimes names come to me right away, like when I imagine a character I automatically come up with something right off the bat.

When that doesn’t happen, I visualize the character and wonder to myself, what kind of name would they have? It’s weird for me to explain this lol, and I hope it makes sense: I sometimes associate certain characters with certain letters of the alphabet, like, “Oh, this girl looks like she could have a “K” or “A” name” then I go and look up names starting with those letters. It’s pretty fun, actually!

Besides that, um, depending on the story I’m creating an OC for, I’ll go look up names with specific meanings, like how my Grandmasters in ATS all have names according to their element (for example: my Psychic/Combat Grandmaster’s first name is Valdis, which means “spirited in war”, fitting into the combat category…then my Light/Dark Grandmaster’s first name is Alva, which means “brightness”, fitting into the light category…get it?)

Sometimes I’ll even take names of characters I really like and name my OCs after them!

I know how tough it can be to name OCs, but if you’re struggling just have fun with it! It’s easier to find names when you aren’t searching for something extremely specific ^^

oH GOD LOL I probably have well over 200, I’m sure. Way, way too many…(I have like…maybe 15 different stories/universes? So yeah that’s a lot of characters to account for!)

But of course Riku and Shima are most dear to me, I’ve had them as OCs since I was really really young (like, 7…), they’ve grown with me throughout the years and I treasure them more than I can say. They deserve the happiest ending for all of the shit I’ve put them through…lol

Eheheh! Yup, that’s right! “Island Star” would actually be Shima’s code name if she ever went on an undercover mission or something XD (Fyuuki would assign them all names. He definitely would)

Actually, I made a post about her origins a while ago. I originally took the name from the first ever manga I read as a kid, Pita Ten. I really liked it! I didn’t understand the meaning until much later, and it came as a complete surprise because my real name translates to “island”, so technically Shima could be my name in Japanese! Which is one of the main reasons why I’ve kept it for so long. ^^ Cool story, huh? It was totally a coincidence that both my name and Shima’s translates to “island”! It’s kind of freaky, to be honest…but super neat!

And as for the “Hoshi” part, well, Shima’s element is the stars. So I wanted that to be implemented into her name somewhere—hence her last name meaning “star”! I’ve always been really into anime and Japanese culture, so I had the majority of the Rulers last names be Japanese ^^’ That may change later on, but I don’t know. They’ve been that way for so long, so I might just keep them forever.Actually, Riku was the person to give Shima her name! He named her after Shizu, since she’s his reincarnation~ They share the same last name among many other things!

Who is always suggesting they get another pet?Aqua because she always likes adding new members to her team. (She’ll always be super close with her main four though.)

Who drinks straight up black coffee and teases the other for their overly-flavored Starbucks?Aqua is not a morning person lol, but she doesn’t like coffee either. She still drinks it to wake her up though. Magma secretly has a sweet tooth and will drink anything with lots of sugar in it.

Which one insists upon buying unheard-of health foods?Mags! He’s totally into that stuff

Which one would run through a busy street just to pet a small dog?Magma would because he can’t resist le cuteness

Which one always mispronounces words and gets constantly corrected by the other for it?Aqua! Mags is very knowledgable about things since he’s traveled around a lot already while Aqua is very sheltered and naive so she doesn’t know a lot of things. Like how to pronounce certain words.

Oh, yes! There’s tons I have yet to introduce! (Bear with me, this is going to be a long post!)

If you recall from the original ATS post, Team Star works at a guild in Amethyst Town! There’s tons of characters that work there and interact with the team on a daily basis! I won’t go into deep detail about them all, but I can introduce the most important duo in the guild, the guildmasters! (I would totally draw them for you but I’m at work at the moment, so you’ll just have to settle for descriptions)

So, the guildmaster for the Amethyst Guild is named Charlie. He’s pretty young, he has black hair and blue eyes (this might change in he future btw), and he’s pretty damn powerful. However if he pushes himself too hard he coughs up blood. It’s a common occurrence for him; it’s not life-threatening or anything, he just has a lot of magic power that his weak little body can’t withstand sometimes so his body will break down on him every so often. He has a wife, her name is Wendy, she has long pink hair and is basically a huge ball of sunshine. You do not want to piss her off, though! She’s really protective of Charlie and she takes over the guild whenever he’s too ill to do it. Even though Charlie is the main guildmaster, Wendy is actually stronger than he is! But she hardly ever fights or shows her true strength, leading to tons and tons of scary rumors about her abilities.

And of course, you’ve probably heard about the five legendary beasts, Topaz being one of them! They all have human forms which they prefer to stick to nowadays, but when they were first created (in the timeline, this was about 500 years ago) they roamed the lands in their true beastly forms. They all take the form of some type of dragon-like creature (because dragons are fucking cool okay).So there’s Kyanite, she has blue hair and is the beast who controls the element of dragons. She’s pretty quiet and withdrawn most of the time. She isn’t shy; she just doesn’t like talking. And she’s really really powerful and super skilled with a sword. She’s very careful and guarded around others, not wanting to open up to them and show her true emotions. I guess you could also describe her as a bit aloof and detached to things. There’s a whole backstory for her which explains this, but I’m going to keep it a secret for now~Then there’s Citrine! Like Wendy she is also a ball of sunshine and is very air headed. She’s a cheerful and optimistic person, and can sometimes be extremely oblivious when it comes to certain things. Her power is lightning. She sticks to Zircon like glue and is his best friend.As for Zircon, he is the most sarcastic little shit ever, but I love him anyway! He’s super protective of Citrine and actually has a huge crush on her (one that he’s been harboring for half of a millennium lmfao). He has a very hard time trusting anybody and is super super book smart. He has a silver tongue but the only person he actually acts truly kind towards is Citrine~ If you haven’t guessed his element is steel.I would tell you all about Topaz, but that would be a huge spoiler! So I’ll keep quiet about it.And lastly, the psychic user, Morganite! (Or just Morgan for short, that’s what everyone else calls him.) Morgan is an extremely gifted psychic user with pink hair. Like Kyanite he’s very quiet and withdrawn, not much is known about him since he disappeared around 200 years ago and nobody has seen him since. Usually the beasts keep in contact with each other, but Morgan’s been missing for a while and the rest have no idea where he is! Everyone spectates that he’s hiding somewhere and building up his psychic energy…

Then there’s the sort of sister guild to Amethyst Guild, and I mentioned in an earlier post that its guildmasters are Ryo and Yumi! Of course there’s many more members of that guild I want to introduce, but for now I’m going to focus on just two: Misto and Terrence!Misto is also a psychic user, and is very skilled with his abilities! He’s very quiet and mysterious, and is usually found hanging about in strange and isolated places. The only person he’s really open with is his twin sister, Mouna (the name might change later). Misto has black hair with white streaks and covers his left eye with a medical eyepatch (like Claus!) He does mini magic shows for the kids at the guild and likes making things disappear and reappear with the help of his power.Terrence is the heartthrob of every teenage guy and girl in the guild and in the town. He has a very upbeat and teasing/flirty personality; he often plays pranks on others and frequently goes on dates with people of all genders. Even so he has a weird attachment to Misto and will go out of his way to bug him whenever he can, and proudly boasts about Misto’s abilities to others (and Misto, at first, wants nothing to do with him lol). He’s really good with kids too! And his element is lightning.

Lastly…I want to talk about the Grandmasters. Now the Grandmasters are said to be a myth; it’s believed they were created along with the Rulers and act as the supporting pillars of Kishuniia. So if one of them were to die, Kishuniia would become highly unstable and destroy itself from inside out. So yeah, they’re pretty important. While the Rulers are the protectors of the world and are revered by all, the Grandmasters’ existence and identity must be kept secret in order to keep the world in balance. They’ve been around since the creation of Shima’s world and live their day to day lives without anyone knowing their true identity. The Grandmasters are special because they are dual-types. Dual-type elementals are capable of wielding the power of two different elements, and when combined can be extremely powerful. While Shima and Riku can borrow other elemental powers occasionally, dual-types can use two at once without having to do that. It’s very very very rare for there to be a dual-type. And of course, there’s a tri-type as well. Only one tri-type exists in the entirety of Shima’s world, and he is seen as the leader of the Grandmasters with the power of space, time AND stars. (He’s a pretty big deal.) Dual-types have heterochromatic eyes according to their types, and the leader’s eyes are a mix of three, making it a really pretty sight! (I had names for some of them but I lost the sticky note I wrote them on, ah! I’ll definitely have to search for it again…) That’s all I’ll say for now until I gather more info!

Of course, my OTP is Riku and Shima! I also love Riku and Shizu as well.The obvious pairings are Fyuuki and Celeste, Colin and Amber, Dusk and Nozomi, and Shira and Johnny.My secondary pairing for Shima is FyuuShi, Fyuuki and Shima! They’re really really really cute ;w; I also ship Shima with Colin, Celeste, Nozomi and Dusk as well. 26. Have you ever had to change your OC’s design or something else about them against your will?

Ahh? I wouldn’t say “against my will” but more like my own decision, I suppose?

So, a few of the first manga I ever read was Pita Ten and Kamichama Karin. Shima, Colin, RP, Celeste, and Shira’s names were all taken from these series and were basically the exact same people. Of course after a while I realized that I needed to change them in order to actually make them my own, original characters, so I fixed them! I was also very heavily influenced by Pokemon Mystery Dungeon T/D/S and Shima, Fyuuki, Celeste, Dusk, Nozomi, Colin, Johnny and Shira’s designs were originally based off of some of the Pokemon from that game.

Shima’s name used to be Shia, from Pita Ten. And then I changed it to Shima (and yeah, there is a Shima from Pita Ten too, who is actually Shia with a slightly different name haha!) That’s about the only similarity she still has to the original. Her outfit was based off of the team I had in PMD, my character was a Piplup (hence the blue).

As for Shira, her name was Shia for a while too, but then I added the “r”. And her original design/Pokemon origin was Shaymin.

Celeste is based off of Shiny Celebi in PMD (hence the pink hair and the obsession with her true love AKA Fyuuki). And her original name was Himeka, from Kamichama Karin!

Fyuuki’s based off of my partner from PMD T/D/S, Chimchar! And the name is from Keroro Gunsou (with a little letter switcharoo there). I never had the heart to change it…

Colin, as you can probably guess, was based off of Grovyle from PMD, and his original name was Kazune from KK

Riku was known as Kazune for a while too, I think? Actually he used to look a lot like Klaus from Pita Ten, he had the same hair and black cape. Of course I ended up changing that later, he became black-haired instead of blonde and got an entire new wardrobe change!

Dusk is probably the most obvious–Dusknoir, of course! And also a little bit of Kirio in him too, I suppose. And Johnny, his loyal sidekick, is based off of Dusknoir’s minions Sableye.

Nozomi’s personality is pretty similar to Himeka’s, and her design comes from Jirachi!

These guys were the main team for a while–and keep in mind that my younger self was very easily influenced by the things she read, so everyone was based off of somebody XD Of course they’ve all changed tons since then, they’re definitely original characters now. But this is their origin stories, I guess!

As for Amber, she was a very last minute addition, I wanted there to be someone for Colin to end up with, and someone to really get in between Shima and Riku and cause some havoc with their romance lol (because Fyuuki’s too nice and Colin respects them too much for that). And if she was a Pokemon, I’d probably say a Torchic!

Ah okay wow sorry that was so long. I can’t really think of any others, minor characters maybe? But most of my characters are based off of somebody, whether it be appearance or personality. It’s very subtle to tell unless I point it out. I mean, everyone has to have a starting point somewhere right? I refuse to completely copy a character that already exists; I merely take the aspects of their appearance/personality I like the most and fuse them into my own characters, and they evolve further from there!

10. Introduce an OC with a complicated design?

Ohhh boy haha I sure do have quite a few of those! Out of all my OCs I’d have to say Archie’s design is definitely one of the most complicated. (He’s the AI program OC that’s based off of TEC from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door btw!)

Isn’t he a cutie~? Super complicated design though, he’s got all the wires and data stuff going on–(Computing…!) He also has a small compartment on his back that he can hook wires into the ports on his hands and that acts as a transportable system charger when he obtains a physical body and becomes more human-like. Using that he’s able to function longer than a human can and can get by for a week or two without sleep. He knows a lot about material things but when it comes to “street smarts” he isn’t that knowledgeable, especially concerning things like emotions (“So…this is what the phenomenon known as “happiness” feels like…?”) Over time he adapts to becoming a human and isn’t as robotic and machine-like, especially concerning his personality! I’ve actually had this design for a very long time; this is my first time coloring it though, I thought I had a good idea of what I wanted the colors to be but it was actually extremely difficult to choose! But I think it turned out alright…?

Ah, the other very complicated character designs I have are from another series of mine–the three main characters are a part of this group known as “Adherents” and they fight these people with almost superhuman abilities known as “Renegades”, and they wear these really high-tech combat suits that enhance their abilities to fight.

15. Do you like to talk about your OCs with other people?

Um, YES? It’s literally my favorite thing in the entire world. If you want to make my day, come ask me about any of my OCs and I’d be more than happy to answer. They’re my pride and joy, like my own children–and nothing makes me giddier than being able to share their stories with others!

17. Any OC OTPs?

Aww man, I have tons! I could say one for each story I have, but that would take too long–

The most obvious choice I think would be Riku and Shima. Two characters that have been with me the longest, who have been through thick and thin together and have something that binds them together through different lifetimes (coughShizucough). I will always treasure their relationship and how they’ll do anything to protect each other. They get along so well and compliment each other in the best of ways–ah, just thinking about them together makes me so happy! ^^

1. Your first OC ever?

Oh goodness. Um, as far as I can remember, my first ever OC was a cat girl named Kiwi. She was the previous Shima, I guess you could say? Like, the pre-development stage version of her, haha. She had green hair, black cat ears, a black dress and special jewels on her hands that she could use to fight or whatever. (I have pictures, but they’re from the 2nd grade so yeah no not happening) I guess Riku was also my first, since I made them at the same time–but back then, he wasn’t even the Riku we all know now…geez this is really embarrassing but um, he actually used to be a Pikachu named RP, which was short for Rare Pikachu XD (Keep in mind that I was like, 6 when I made these characters up lmfao). So yeah, RP used to be a Pikachu with peculiar markings and abilities, hence the name. And Kiwi was his partner, they went around catching Pokemon together! So my first OC was a Pokemon OC actually! Though of course those two have evolved so much since then, RP’s Pokemon now Kishuma design is almost the same as the original with a few minor changes, and Shima is completely different from Kiwi now. They’ve been with me for such a long time…especially concerning RP, I was so attached to calling him that, I didn’t want it to change, which is why his name now is Riku Prometeo! RP for short ^^ Funny how as I grew up, those two grew up with me…they’re very special and important to me. (Ahh, now I’m getting all sappy and sentimental! Oops!)

27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?

Yes, actually! There are a few who’s appearances and/or backstories were inspired by Vocaloid songs (OF COURSE), and there’s one story in particular of mine that was inspired by the song Deep-Sea Girl. (It’s called The Bottomless Ruins as of right now!)

I came up with the idea for Riku’s backstory (AKA The Original Rulers) from the song Viva La Vida by Coldplay. That’s basically his theme song, haha. And Shizu’s is probably Seeing A Sixteen-Day-Old Moon.

Archie–my AI program OC–falls in love with a human, similar to how the song Blindness Poem works. But he gets a happy ending, unlike the song >w

And the last one I can think of off the top of my head is Ryo and Yumi–two OCs that I originally planned on having their own story, but I could never come up with a good enough plot, so now they’re two guildmasters in a rival guild to Shima’s in Among the Stars. Their appearances are based off of the people from Worm-Eaten Psychedelism.

Aaron: Preshus child, he’s from my Shadow Hunters series, he has a huge crush on the main character and will do anything for her. m

Simon: A brave, selfless and adorable adventurer! He’s from The Bottomless Ruins and is the main character, he goes to explore some islands with his friends for summer vacation and meets tons of interesting people and goes in search for–obviously–the Bottomless Ruins! Simon’s just too pure, he will always help out those in need, no matter what the case!

Klaus: He’s a demon who lives all by his lonesome in his rotting mansion in the Demon World, until he encounters the main character Adalene and falls in love with her, eheh! He usually wears bandages on his arms to protect his magic circles and burn marks, poor baby got caught in a fire ;w; Despite his kinda scary demon appearance he’s just a huge softie who wants attention. (Basically, he’s a lot like Yato from Noragami. Super clingy to Adalene and will do just about anything to protect her :D)
