made a comic about some thoughts! small ways you can empower people, choosing who to empower, and why “don’t make your orientation your whole personality” misses the depth of the issue.
stay cute, stay proud, and love your friends
#I think about this comic a lot#but I thought about it again recently after hearing someone in my office (not a member of my team) make a super crappy comment about Mexico#and border security and immigration#you know. that stuff.#and I just kinda froze for a second in absolute shock#partially because like. y'know. I'm Mexican#(and also partially because the workplace I'm in is like SOOOOO anti-that way of thinking in general I was shocked he just. said that)#and my coworker (who IS a member of my team) is the type of dude who thrives when debating people#so he politely humbled him ofc#but I was sitting across from my boss and I kinda glanced up at her and essentially messaged her ''yikes''#and she apologized ofc even though I will almost certainly never deal with him or interact with him ever#and it made me think about the whole ''ability to pass as white'' or the whole ''ability to pass as straight'' thing#and like. As a white-passing Mexican and Bi gal I run into that a lot#and whenever I do. I think about this comic#I think about it a lot#comic#There's more I could say here but I think the comic says it all honestly
