That "qsmp 2" is gonna create so much discourse the purgatory event will be a little flicker of a memory, a speck of dust
Absolutely devastated to see q!Pac being cursed with the same affliction as q!Quackity (people drawing him with blue eyes)
It really bums me out as a Mexican, but I know people can be better about it.
A few months ago when a lot of people were suddenly drawing Quackity with blue eyes for no reason, an artist I really like drew him with blue eyes too, and it made me so sad I actually sent them a private message explaining why it really hurt seeing a Mexican dude being drawn with blue eyes. I told them they didn’t need to respond, but I asked them to please consider what I said the next time they wanted to draw him.
I really didn’t expect anything, but not only have they never drawn him with blue eyes since, they also changed the art of him that had blue eyes.
I genuinely think that most people who do this don’t do it with malicious intent; it’s a matter of sheer oblivious ignorance. But ignorance or no, we still need to take responsibility for the effect our actions have on other people, especially since ignorance is a form of privilege. (Ignorance about cultural differences is another matter, but I’m talking about this specific example of drawing non-white characters with blue eyes and why that Sucks).
As fans of QSMP (and any series really, but especially one like QSMP), we need to be conscious of the way we portray characters, especially ones who aren’t straight cis white dudes. Racism is unfortunately a problem in every fandom, but I think that because QSMP is all about uniting people from different cultures and backgrounds, most people in the community are willing to listen and learn with an open mind. I hope that being in a community like this can help people reevaluate their biases and assumptions, and eventually learn why they shouldn’t slap blue eyes on characters like Quackity or Pac.
love reading late 90s/early 2000s scholarship on the potential of the internet. "hey we shouldn't let venture capitalists get in on this" And Then They Did

Oooooooof the crushing weight of people who were right but could not prevent the future they saw coming
