started reading soc again last night out of boredom and gotta say I do appreciate the show for taking the conflict of faith between inej and kaz more seriously... book kaz is teenage boy who teases inej in the way teenage boys do when they don't know they love someone. show kaz, whom we can assume has been aged up, is much more mature about it, contrarian out of his own clear beliefs and concern for inej. and to think! they have already reached a satisfying understanding of each other in this one season, before the events of soc,,, love that for them 😌 excited to see how they go post-knife

kaz is so bewildered/confused by the fact that he's in love with inej like the thought of loving anyone is crazy to him meanwhile nina and jesper are like mate have you seen inej?

freddy carter understands the assignment etc etc but it’s so ridiculous how the show, outside of dialogue and mannerisms and simping for inej, just. almost never lets kaz be kaz. the best lockpick and thief in ketterdam going to the royal archives for reconaissance only??? jesper shoots the lock with a gun. the locked room in the little palace??? requires a magnetic rock arken conveniently has. kaz memorises every variation of how arken operated the train??? only for it to blow up before we can see if he got it right. except for the church fight and his one cute little sherlock holmes deduction with the money-counting, there’s only exposition about how smart kaz is with no demonstration.

to look at the first season of s&b as a soc prequel, to look at inej and kaz's relationship as it was before we met them...

kaz always respected inej's decision to never kill, he never asks that of her even though he could. instead he works around it with jesper, so she doesn't have to betray her faith. who else does he make concessions for? he's always been responsible for her because she's 'the Wraith' under his employ, but when she kills for him, makes that violation for him, he holds himself accountable for those deeds because it was in his name that she crossed the threshold of her own morals. and so to him she becomes 'my Wraith' my sins, my burden, my saviour, the one.

and that's where they're at when we first meet them in soc
