do you have maybe a top 10 like, action or comedy movies of the past few years? you have really good taste in movies and I'm looking to get more into movies, especially one not the big franchise films that keep burying everything else
hiii and thank you! my faves from the last 10 years are:
- the night comes for us
- monkey man
- polite society
- the villainess
- the northman
- revenge 2017
- upgrade
- jigarthanda
- everything everywhere all at once
- the raid 2
also you said no franchises but I do really love birds of prey, mad max fury road, matrix resurrections, prey, the spiderverse movies, snake eyes, and the 90 seconds of motorball in alita battle angel (sorry)
made a letterboxd list for my ldpdl canon movies from this post
saw your movie lists for iwtv. do you think you might have a similar one for mr. robot? i've also checked out your lboxd for the succession and it was really good.
ohhh that's a good idea thank you... I might just make a letterboxd list after I think about it more but off the top of my head the big ones are:
- FIGHT CLUB
- V for Vendetta
- Back to the Future 2
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2011
- Memento
- American Psycho
- Bad Influence 1990
- The Double 2013
- The Double Life of Veronique
- Vive L'Amour
- Requiem for a Dream
- 8 1/2 (trust me!)
- eXistenZ
- The Matrix (particularly 1 & 4)
- The Panic In Needle Park (for rami's performance)
- Predestination
- Trainspotting
- Donnie Darko (not an actual recommendation I hate this movie)
There's also just a lot of individual episodes based on movies like Tyrell's episode of season 3 that's the shining, plus lots of references to other time travel movies like bill and ted and groundhog day. I think a lot about the cute Speed 1994 reference in 405 with the baby pram full of cans <3
+ if you haven't seen it I highly recommend the tv show Utopia (2013 UK series) which is my favourite show of all time and was definitely a big inspiration for Sam Esmail because it's referenced a LOT throughout the show.
also big shoutout to Person of Interest; it's kind of the show I thought Mr. Robot was going to be after that first scene in ron's coffee shop before things too a turn. It finished just as Mr. Robot began and like Mr. Robot it's about privacy and has an AMAZING build up into a stronger sci-fi.
Films this season of interview with the vampire has made me want to rewatch:
- the duke of burgundy
- the servant
- now, voyager
- samui song
- thirst 2009
- autumn sonata
- happy together
- kama sutra: a tale of love
- phantom thread
- corsage
- the deep blue sea (national theatre live)
- it's only the end of the world
- lost illusions
- and then we danced
