@danashehab has been fundraising since may and is just over €15,000 away from their goal l. as stated in the screenshot people are starting to believe the rafah crossing will open so it’s important to make sure everyone has the funds in case they are allowed to evacuate.

thee shehab family consists of dana (13), sahar (14), mona (9), malak (5), yehya (1.5), fahed, (38), reem (32), and grandmother mona (60). they have been shadowbanned and deleted a few times. you can also find this family at @monashehab

EDIT AUG 24:

The family has had to raise their goal to cover their extended family’s evacuation fees since they are unable to make a new GFM.

The new goal is €85,000.

Currently at €71,800. Only €700 away to €72500

Thank you my friends for helping me. Please continue to donate so I can reach my goal of 75k. I need this to be able to save my children and get them to safety. We are facing a terrible situation. Please continue to donate. We are very close to achieving the goal. You are my second family and I am very proud of you. Let's do it friends and hit the target for my kids and get to 75k.

My friends please help me reach €72500 . I am only €700 away from the amount.

I know I've said this a hundred times but if you're worried about palestinian fundraisers being scams at least consider donating to MSF. It's a highly reputable organization which has broken its long-standing neutrality to denounce Israel in front of the UN. Here's all the aid MSF is providing to Gazans (documentation available in multiple languages).

Since I know no one's gonna click on that link, here's a quick overview of some of the various ways in which Medicins Sans-Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders) is aiding Palestinians

- Since Oct 7 2023, MSF provided for 14000 hospital admissions and 7500 surgeries, on top of treating 27500 people for physical violence causes, treating 34000 people for diarrhoea (very common condition in Gaza currently due to the sanitary crisis) and holding 18000 mental health sessions.

-MSF is currently operating in two hospitals, eight healthcare facilities and fifteen mobile clinics, providing surgical support, wound care, physiotherapy, maternity and paediatric care, basic healthcare, vaccinations, and mental health services among other things (more info on the treatments provided by each facility on the link above). Additionally, they provide training for psychological, medical and paramedical volunteers, and donate first aid kits to various camps (info on the specific locations on the link above).

- Via their partnership with the Palestinian Agriculture and Development Association, they're building latrines for over 30000 people in six camps, distributing hygiene kits to 2400 families, and ensuring clean drinking water for 25000 people, on top of equipping a camp for 70 families with accessible sanitary facilities for disabled people.

- Since October 7, 2023, eight of their medics have died. Seven of them are remembered here, and their latest, Hasan Suboh, in this statement that denounces Israel's allies for disregarding the fact that the protection of humanitarian workers is not being guaranteed as they claim.

MSF does not only stand for Palestine in humanitarian terms, it also does so politically to an extent, holding Israel and its allies accountable for sabotaging ceasefire negotiation attempts.

MSF also provides aid to Sudan, the Democratic Republic Of Congo, Haiti, Ethiopia and 76 other countries.

To better maximize your donation to MSF, I advise keeping an eye out for donation doubling and tripling periods, which occur fairly often and can be checked on their website.

It’s very nice to see this post getting traction. To illustrate more what I was talking about here, as a prior donor to MSF, I sometimes get mails like this:

Here, we are seeing a fund match donations until the end of the year, with the cap imposed by the fund. This will help them generate large donations more quickly from smaller individual contributions than they would without the fund partnership. The online donation site for this currently can be found here.

If you’re in the USA, though I always encourage donating when you can, you can time your ability to donate more generously with these fund matching periods, which MSF will inform you of if you are a previous donor. I hope this helps clarify my addition.

here is the game that mohamed’s son, abdul-rahman, enjoys playing with the kitten that has joined their camp! mohamed tells me that the kitten jumps onto the scooter over and over begging to be pushed around. this sweet scene is a moment of relief between intense aerial bombardments, disease endured without access to expensive medicines, injuries that cannot begin to heal, and constant horror and death all around this family. the children’s mother, manal, is suffering from late-stage cancer and is currently in a coma.

while the al-manasra family’s gofundme is paused due to a technicality, can you help get money to their fundraiser organizer’s cashapp, venmo, or paypal (for donors outside the US)?

cashapp link (for americans)

venmo link (for americans - please do not indicate anything having to do with palestine in description)

paypal link (for everyone outside US - please make sure your donation is listed as “personal” and not business)

thank you thank you thank you!!!! please circulate!!!

please remember the al manasra family today! the issue with the gofundme has been weighing heavily on mohamed’s mind, even as his wife is in a coma and constant bombing near their tents threaten the lives of his children. you can give them hope for survival and escape by sending money via the links above.

please share + amplify + send directly to a friend if you can. please give some money today. every little bit means the world to this family.

can you please help this family today?

We have known about this extended family and the area they live in since mid July. However, it was not until this week that we could come in and serve this encampment of destroyed and makeshift tents.

Just to show you that no one in Gaza is immune to the suffering and pain, Refaat Alareer’s family, despite his magnitude as a Palestinian scholar and activist, is living in some of the worst tents we have seen.

It was our honor to assist them and respect the legacy of the man who we are so fortunate to have been given permission to name our camp after. Check back later in the week to see how we provided tents for Refaat’s brother’s family and supported the encampment that needed so much help.”

Please continue to give so we can serve these communities with shelter this winter. The Tents, Cash Aid, and Medical campaign:

ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help

Operation Olive Branch has a spreadsheet dedicated to mutual aid, local distro, community kitchens, etc. in Gaza.

This is a good place to start if seeking to donate to a community resilience action. Just contact the group(s) directly to make sure they are still active. Life in Gaza and Palestine is full of uncertainty.

the reason so many people are quick to act like edgeworth and gumshoe are close friends despite that so clearly not being what the dynamic is is because they're afraid to embrace the deep bond of intimacy and trust you need to be someone's goon. gumshoe is edgeworth's most devoted and trusty henchman. nothing more nothing less.

gumshoe was never edgeworth's best friend but edgeworth Was gumshoe's best friend for awhile. once gumshoe gets married his wife is his best friend instead because gumshoe would never be the kind of guy whose wife isn't his best friend. edgeworth's best friend situation went nobody -> phoenix -> nobody -> franziska -> nobody -> back to phoenix again over the years. but edgeworth actually hasn't been phoenix's best friend since elementary school and he can't ever get back into that slot because it's maya's forever now (it was larry for awhile in the middle there) and phoenix says that doesnt matter you and maya can both be my best friend at the same time. im a grown man. but maya and edgeworth both know this simply isn't true and maya will hold that title until all three of them are dead and maybe after that and edgeworth will simply have to cope

you may ask "what about kay. doesn't she get a chance to be edgeworth's best friend" and i understand that sentiment. but no. because Edgeworth is kay's henchman.

north gaza has been under siege for over a month and now every single hospital is no longer functioning, with only kamal adwan left on minimal supplies and constant bombardment. the hospital director films daily videos asking for help and assistance, after his son was murdered by the idf in retaliation for him refusing to leave the hospital.

the idf has announced "no civilians will return" and also that "no civilians are left" in northern gaza, despite neither of these things being true. they've also made it clear that they will ethnically cleanse and annex it, have further plans for a "three part" annexation of gaza, have attached their insane minister of settlements who's been frothing at the mouth to resettle gaza since 2005 to the war cabinet (she's also calling for settlements in the south of lebanon) and continue to kill between 80-100 people daily in both lebanon and gaza, many if not most of them children.

joe biden is still the president... with presumably nothing to lose. one can only conclude he is ideologically and economically committed to making sure israel finishes the job before trump even enters the white house.

smotrich announces "annexation of the west bank" with 2025 being "the year of israeli sovereignty in judea and samaria." (fwiw the west bank is de facto annexed and most palestinians barring mahmoud abbas don't care as much as people think about this)

joe biden is still the president, and the US is still impeding the ICC warrants out for israeli leaders. also note that the ICJ—the international court of justice—ruled this july that israel is obliged to dismantle west bank settlements and pay reparations to palestinians. the US could make that happen, if it chose to. the US could simply get out of the way of the UN and let other international bodies make that happen as well.

Until they start sabotaging tanks and fragging their officers, you should not give the slightest fuck about Israeli soldiers or their supposed trauma. If bulldozing living people and blowing up ancient Lebanese cities is so disturbing to them, they should channel their disaffection into the only action that matters: disobedience.

(sarcastic) "hm wonder what the dems are doing to prepare for trump taking power, i mean if they ran on him being a totalitarian threat to the country and the world as we know it surely they have a plan to put safeguards and roadblocks in place in case he won the election to at least make it harder for him to achieve his loudly publicly stated fascist goals"

dems 5 days after losing:

President Joe Biden’s senior immigration advisor Blas Nuñez-Neto is quietly pushing for another asylum restriction before the end of the presidency. Together with homeland security advisor Liz Sherwood Randall, Nuñez-Neto is pressing the president through White House chief of staff Jeff Zients to move the asylum bars up to the initial screening process, according to two sources familiar with the discussions.
If enacted, the change would make it much easier for border agents to remove migrants before they can meet with an attorney. None of the unilateral asylum bars passed by the Biden administration are part of statute, leading some to question their legality.
The push by Nuñez-Neto and Sherwood Randall comes as migrant rights advocates desperately push the president to do anything he can to protect communities before Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States on January 6. Trump was elected on a broad mandate to deport millions of migrants.
For their part, Nuñez-Neto and Sherwood Randall have worked tirelessly throughout Biden’s term to make mass deportations easier, greasing the policy skids for Stephen Miller, the senior Trump advisor expected to command the immigration policy portfolio at the start of the new presidency.

Meanwhile, Sherwood Randall has worked overtime throughout the Biden administration to militarize the border through her role as a top homeland security advisor to the West Wing. Advocates say Sherwood Randall has been instrumental in “outsourcing Biden’s human rights abuses” by forcing foreign governments throughout the region to detain migrants with impunity.
Biden has seventy-one days left in the White House. As the Trump transition team prepares to take over, advocates hope the outgoing president will enact a series of proposals that will protect migrants already in the country from the next presidency. Zients, Quillian, Nuñez-Neto, and Sherwood Randall are clearly pushing for the opposite.
Donald Trump has made no secret of his desire for revenge.
On the campaign trail, he joked about being a dictator on “day one” in office, pledged to jail journalists, and threatened to retaliate against political foes who he felt had wronged him.
Now, just days after he secured a second term in the White House, Congress is already moving to hand a resurgent Trump administration a powerful cudgel that it could wield against ideological opponents in civil society.
Up for a potential fast-track vote next week in the House of Representatives, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, also known as H.R. 9495, would grant the secretary of the Treasury Department unilateral authority to revoke the tax-exempt status of any nonprofit deemed to be a “terrorist supporting organization.”

It’s unclear how Democrats will view the bill in light of Trump’s return to power. A spokesperson for Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, who did not oppose a previous version of the nonprofit provision, told The Intercept Doggett is likely to vote against the measure following Trump’s reelection.
The current version — which was introduced by Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., and co-sponsored by Brad Schneider, D-Ill., and Dina Titus, D-Nev. — is paired with a provision that would provide tax relief to American hostages held by terror groups and other Americans unjustly imprisoned abroad.
Hamadanchy said combining the two provisions was likely a ploy to push the nonprofit-terror bill through with as little opposition as possible.
“They attached it to a super popular bill that everyone likes because they want to make it hard for people to vote ‘no,’” Hamadanchy said. “The reality is that if they really wanted the hostage thing to become law, they’d pass that by itself.”

In the past year, accusations of support for terrorism have been freely lobbed at student protesters, aid workers in Gaza, and even mainstream publications like the New York Times. In unscrupulous hands, the powers of the proposed law could essentially turn the Treasury Department into an enforcement arm of Canary Mission and other hard-line groups dedicated to doxxing and smearing their opponents as terrorists.
With very few guardrails in place, the new bill would give broad new powers to the federal government to act on such accusations — and not just against pro-Palestine groups, according to Costello.
“The danger is much broader than just groups that work on foreign policy,” said Costello. “It could target major liberal funders who support Palestinian solidarity and peace groups who engage in protest. But it could also theoretically be used to target pro-choice groups, and I could see it being used against environmental groups.
Costello added, “It really would be at the discretion of the Trump administration as to who they target, with very little recourse for the targeted organization.”
An earlier version of the bill passed the House in April by a vote of 382-11.

At the hearing [on September 11], Doggett asked a number of pointed questions of Robert Harvey, the deputy chief of staff for the Joint Committee on Taxation, a nonpartisan committee of experts tasked with explaining the bill to members of Congress.
“As I understand it, all the Treasurer has to do to deny tax exemption is to mail a notice to the organization involved saying: ‘You’re a terrorist supporting organization, we have found you are providing material support, and you’re denied your exemption?'” Doggett asked.
“That’s correct, Mr. Doggett,” Harvey replied.
“And does the bill require the Treasury to disclose the reasons for denying the tax-exempt status?” Doggett asked.
“I don’t believe they have to disclose,” Harvey said.
“They don’t have to provide any evidence that they relied on?” Doggett said.
“Not that I’m aware of, Mr. Doggett.”
Finally, Doggett asked Harvey a question that he wryly described as far-fetched.
“I would just ask you — and I don’t think this a realistic possibility — let’s suppose we had an administration that vowed to wreak vengeance on its opponents,” Doggett said. “To prosecute lawyers, political operatives, illegal voters, and corrupt election officials to the fullest extent of the law, and impose long prison sentences on them; someone who believes that those who don’t clap for him are traitors; someone who believes that someone who worked to bring him to justice in the courts or worked tirelessly to assure his defeat — would there be any limitation on that president’s Treasury secretary on designating a ‘terrorist supporting organization’ and strip that organization of its nonprofit status?”
“Mr. Doggett, that requires me to do some speculation,” Harvey replied. “But I am not aware of any limitations in the bill.”

Howdy folks, the Senate will be considering the first ever resolution blocking arms to Israel. This is huge and historic; it would block government contracting and about $20 billion in arms and support. This is an uphill battle, PLEASE urge your senators to support S.J.Res114-115. This is maybe the most important piece of legislation relating to Palestine that we have ever gotten and we must seize this opportunity.

This doc has information on the resolutions and their process, as well as sample messages and a phone script you can use. Please, use this moment to hear witness for your neighbors.

The House is also advancing a bill to restore funding to UNRWA; the AFSC has a script for this bill, as well as for Senator Sander's bill, at the bottom of this Google Doc. If your representative has already sponsored this bill, like mine, it's equally important to thank them so they understand their constituency agrees with their decisions. If you feel nervous calling, I suggest joining the AFSC's action hour every Friday, which coordinates calling efforts at the end of every informational session on the state of Palestine and the progress of activism each week.

reddit is absolutely unhinged right now it has me feeling like I'M the weird one for saying don't fucking get your neighbor's family deported by ICE because one family member voted trump. actually I got hate before on *this site* for saying don't make fun of a teen girl dying in childbirth just because she was pro life so maybe some people need to grow and change as a person. it's deranged to fantasize about these things especially when you portray yourself as otherwise progressive? i'm not sure you were the one most scared of a trump presidency if you feel you can so easily leverage these policies against others without consequence anyway

somewhere to start today is by helping nada, who is less than 40% of the way towards her goal.

please continue to share mutual aid, whether its in your own neighborhood or across the sea. please continue to find both what's urgent and what's beautiful in the world.

thank you always, take care.

I did years of intensive research on past genocides, going deep into many archives, and the testimonies coming out of Gaza and Sudan remind me of the worst of the worst accounts I've read. the means of killing can change but whether it's by bullet, machete, death march, or drone, the pattern of dehumanization, torture, and methodical massacres is the same. that's why I can confidently say that it doesn't get worse than this. moreover, history shows us again and again that genocidal militias will not stop carrying out this extermination phase until they are forcibly stopped by means of armed resistance. the IOF and RSF will not stop committing genocide willingly. the US and UAE will not stop funding these genocides willingly. genocidal powers do not stop committing genocide of their own volition. the atrocities always continue until the genociders are removed from power. calling for a ceasefire and attempting to enforce it solely through diplomatic means has never sufficed. those of us who want these genocides to end need to wholeheartedly support resistance, and we need to take direct actions to at least make committing genocide more challenging — e.g. blocking weapons shipments; imposing meaningful material consequences on genocide-profiteering corporations; sending money to Gazans and Sudanese who are facing starvation and disease as weapons of genocide. loudly voicing dissent against genocidal governments is also important, but insufficient on its own. voting for the genociders and imagining you can work with them to stop the genocide is just insulting to both those suffering now, and to victims of past genocides whose deaths can be attributed to similarly complacent publics

girls I know this isn’t at the top of the concerns list but you’re gonna want to stop eating commercially produced meat real soon

@najaside not a dumb question! I’m going to answer here instead of the replies bc it’s a pretty common one & there’s lots to say.

USDA regulations are not the same for large commercial producers as they are for small producers. there is this precedent that a big certified facility will stay sanitary and adequate better than a small facility, on top of huge companies having the money to get away with awful safety lapses - for example, with the recent boar’s head recall, the USDA was aware of extreme violations of sanitation requirements for a year before the listeria outbreak, did not punish them then, and despite people dying from the listeria outbreak, still have not penalized them at all. https://arstechnica.com/science/2024/08/blood-puddles-mold-tainted-meat-bugs-boars-head-inspections-are-horrifying/

all that is to say - local meat is more likely to be safe. feedlots are notorious disease vectors, on top of these huge companies cutting corners as much as possible at the cost of consumer safety. finding local butchers, homesteaders, etc. to buy from is invaluable! you can do a simple google search, join local farmer / homesteader groups, go to farmers’ markets, etc. nothing is zero risk, and this isn’t me saying no local producer will ever cut corners or do risky practices, but they are at MUCH higher risk of their entire livelihood being lost if they fail to keep up with safety and health standards than large companies (as you can see, they just… keep doing what they’re doing, whereas a local producer would have their entire reputation destroyed and operation penalized or shut down). many farms also allow tours, have events for you to visit them, etc. so you can get an idea of how they operate and build relationships with producers directly.

and, otherwise: don’t use anything pre cooked, because then you won’t be cooking it to kill the bacteria. all FDA recalls with reasoning can be found here, and the list is always updated to date. https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts

addendum: this unfortunately also applies to produce. buy local, visit farmers markets, apply for SNAP/EBT and see if they have farmers’ market “double your money” programs. look into community supported agriculture, AKA basically a local food subscription box, check for co-ops and other local shops that supply local goods and list where products are from.

Wanted to add:

  • Do not fucking drink raw milk. I know a lot of smaller farmers will sell it but look at me, DO NOT FUCKING DRINK RAW MILK. There are NO health benefits to this, anyone claiming there are is, regardless of intention, spreading pseudoscience wellness culture bullshit. Raw milk is not safe and will get you VERY sick, especially with the current H5N1 outbreak, you should be avoiding unpasteurized milk at all costs. Pasteurization does not do anything/add anything to milk that makes it bad for you, it's legit just heating to a high temperature up for a couple of seconds to kill germs or viruses or bacteria, which I cannot stress enough, is a good thing that has saved millions of lives. For the love of god, avoid raw milk.
  • Cook your eggs all the way through. This hurts, believe me it hurts I fucking love runny eggs, but between the likely relax in food safety regulations and the unknowns around H5N1 consuming under-cooked eggs turning into a huge risk.
  • Wash your veggies!! I always see people say produce can't cause food-borne illnesses but that's not true, and rn it's gonna be a really fucking good idea to properly clean produce, EVEN if it comes from a local small farm.
  • This is also a great time to familiarize yourself with food safety rules and how to prepare meat, fish, eggs, and even vegetables in a way that kills anything harmful that might be lingering in or on them. Wash your veggies. Cook chicken and pork and fish to the correct temperature. I would honestly probably avoid rare steak, and don't do burgers rare either. Learn the signs of botulism contamination as well. Don't get so panicked that you never eat anything but most people are not taught how to safely prepare food unless they end up working in a professional kitchen and rn it's gonna be important for you to know this shit.
  • I don't think telling people they have to avoid pre-cooked food is helpful given how many poor, elderly, and disabled people rely on that stuff. The best bet if you're worried about it is to keep an eye on recall lists and make sure you cook anything frozen or pre-packaged correctly, or even cook it extra or again if you want. Like don't just re-heat the jarred pasta sauce, heat it to a temperature that will kill anything lingering in there, habits like that can help a lot especially if you know the correct temperatures needed to make the food safe. If you can cook and have disabled friends or family who can't, offer to help. Batch cook stuff that can be frozen, offer to take them to farmer's markets or the store, keep an eye on that recall list and notify them or even help them go through their food and throw out things. All of this takes time and energy and resources a lot of poor, elderly, and disabled people just don't have. So if you can help them, help them.
  • Also while yes local farms are less likely to be completely fucking evil, they are not immune to bad habits and disease and outright idiocy. Right now we are dealing with a truly MASSIVE bird flu(H5N1) outbreak in chickens and cows as well as wild birds and a lot of other mammals, and that includes livestock on small farms. The first H5N1 infections found in pigs were on a backyard farm that let it's livestock mingle and share water/feed. And again, local farmers will absolutely sell raw milk and swear up and down that it's fine and healthy and not a problem at all. You cannot just blindly trust small/local farms to protect you, you must back it up with proper food safety and common sense. Also if you're going to a farmer's market or to tour a small farm you should mask, frequently wash your hands, and avoid touching any animals you don't know 100% for sure aren't sick. I don't think H5N1 is going to go H2H but every new infection increases the risk of mutation and you need to be aware of it.

On the subject of H5N1, start paying attention to it. The Biden Administration is dropping the ball on this shit so hard it's genuinely scary, and I know for a fact if it does go H2H Trump will not handle it at all. Covid was the warm up, we do NOT want to see a bird flu pandemic in humans, especially with Trump in charge.

Buy and wear masks, learn the signs of illness in wild animals and honestly unless you really know what you're doing you should probably avoid touching wild animals at all right now, especially wild birds. If you go to a farm or farmer's market or fair mask up, wash your hands, and avoid direct contact with animals if you can. Also bring your fucking cats inside, bird flu is lethal in cats and they will drag it into your house and probably get you sick too, and again, that's one more chance for H5N1 to mutate. And if you won't by god at least get your pets vaccinated, there are low-cost clinics and I think even PetSmart will do them for cheap, it's important for not just us but our pets as well to avoid catching and spreading preventable illnesses.

Disabled people have been screaming for years now about public health being completely destroyed and covid has done irreparable damage to the way we as a society see health and safety, even amongst leftists and progressives, which is very fucking bad. Learn to protect yourself and others, please, it's on us now.
