A very ingenious and roundabout way to tell us that part of Sheppard's trauma was that he disobeyed orders and failed to rescue his friend. But, Teyla reminds him that he didn't fail this time. They're all safe, even if he did shoot Rodney.
It is a great episode with a good, creepy psychological factor. And the tension brought by all the warriors losing their minds is so sad and hard. Poor Beckett losing his guys over and over. Poor Teyla being the only unaffected one.
