idk how long it's been like this or if someone else has already pointed this out, but all of her of posts from around the time of her whole ai art... um... phase? are gone, even the posts about other stuff, like her mixed media work. and, weirdly, it says she's following zero people right now. maybe I'm late to the party / maybe none of that means anything, just thought it might be worth mentioning....

Yes! I was going to make a post about it but forgot.

Her art-related blog posts have been gone for a while, but within the last month EA culled all her so-called "AI Art posts" from Instagram. It also appears she swept through her feed and deleted other posts (I only noticed because I very recently ripped her feed for the "from the archive" posts). Her followers are now private and, as it's been for a while, her comments are extremely limited on Insta.

EA's facebook page has also been partially purged. Her "last post" and everything dating back to 2015 appears to be gone. 2015 and earlier is still there, though... very weird.

EA's presence online is very scattered and inconsistent right now. Here's an odd list of things I've noticed:

  • All A Bit O' This & That songs (and possibly other albums) went unlisted on her official Youtube Page. All that's up there right now is FLAG and Behind the Musical. But YouTube Music is mostly unaffected.
  • ABOT&T is gone from YouTube music.
  • Enchant and other albums disappeared from Spotify, but are available on other streaming sites.
  • The only thing pushed in her Insta highlights is a newsletter that isn't active and doesn't provide the freebies advertised on the Emporium.
  • The Emporium is pretty broken. Random pages 404, like the Music page (but it works fine if you go to the subcategory).
  • The art listings are still live on the Emporium, listed as "sold out."
  • Her website features her entire discography, but most link out to dead Emporium pages.
  • The Gown audiobook "for two weeks only!" has been available on the Emporium for years now...
  • New "releases" playlists have been made on her Youtube within the last few days (but they could be auto-generated?).

Hard to tell if she's just slowly shutting down or quietly ramping up for something.

Do we know who the guy doing the "bring your daughters to the asylum" speech at the end of miss lucy had some leeches on the deluxe edition is?

I don't! I tried to find the answer for you, but the credits in that edition of Opheliac don't list anyone.

The best person to answer this question would be EA herself or maybe Inkydust, if anyone can still get a hold of him. It's more than likely she either hired someone to do a one-off recording for her or that she had a friend do it.

If I find an answer I'll update here!

Hi there! Do you know if the opheliac companion ever had a physical cd release? I feel like I saw one floating around ebay a while back, but maybe I hallucinated it. Either way, thanks very much for this entire blog and I hope you have a lovely day!

There was never a physical release on that one. It was a digital download. I believe it included some other digital goodies alongside it.

You probably saw the physical audiobook release — their minimalistic black designs are similar.

I remember that for a few shows during the FLAG era Emilie was touring with a new crumpet called Moth, but she was only there temporarily as she was replacing another one of the girls (i think it was Maggots or Contessa?), and i remember her doing a beautiful dance with flags. I haven't been able to find more about her, and i always wondered how she and Emilie met, how things were arranged for her to join the tour, and why didn't she remain as part of the group. I thought she was an amazing addition and would've loved to see her as part of the bloody crumpets.

Jill Evyn is Moth's real name. To my knowledge, there's no known reason for why Moth didn't continue touring. No drama, no tea... She was hired to replace Captain Maggots for a stint in 2013 and when Maggots returned, Moth bid us farewell.

I don't think anyone has ever said anything about how she and EA came into contact.

Today, she's a mother of three and resides in California. She credits herself as an actor, fire dancer, creative director, and producer on Instagram.

Did emilie ever address why the audiobook is so altered/abridged from the original hardcover versions of TAFWVG?

Yes! In one of her many statements about the delay for the audiobook, she said:

"Let me tell you something that has happened to me this past year…something that has changed my world, and the future of the Asylum and its ability to change the world, one mad girl (or boy) at a time: I signed with my absolute dream literary agent, the fantastic Jenny Bent of The Bent Agency in NYC. My goal was to reformat my entire book into something that was affordable to everyone, easy to find anywhere in the world, so that I may help as many people as I possibly can through my experiences, by opening up my brain and humbly offering it to you, and through the message that what makes you different is what makes you magical (and also that rats can talk). Working with a top literary agent is the key to making this happen, and to relaunching this book, this bible of the Asylum world that we now share, in a way that I could never have dreamt of. Besides, and let’s have a teacup of “honesty time” here, if the new Asylum becomes an internationally best-selling novel, not only can we enact more change for good, but the Asylum Musical takes over Broadway faster, the Asylum Movie takes over theatres faster, and YOU are all dressed up as rats/inmates in said movie, you guessed it, faster...
...Finally, this last year, I signed with a literary agent with the aforementioned intention of re-formatting my book for wider publication, and I have a choice to make. I had basically rewritten my book, taking the opportunity (because the Asylum is living and breathing and never stops growing and never ever ends) to make it even more magical and beautiful and empowering, introduce you to a mind-blowing new character, and add some chapters that will virtually change everything (and I do mean absolutely EVERYTHING, I cannot express this with enough force to even closely convey what I’m talking about here). So, which version do I give to you, the early purchaser of the Asylum Audiobook? Do I finish what I started and get the nearly finished recording out to you as fast as I can and give you exactly what you are expecting? Or do I basically take more time and give you the ultimate, the “oh my god what the hell just happened I had no idea this is so much more than I ever even thought I was paying for seriously though what the hell just happened did you ever see that coming the world is shattering around me and I fucking love it” version? In short, the version containing all of the new things that nobody has ever read before or will see in print for quite a while yet (because publishers take a bit of time when putting out a new book I’m told)? What the hell do I do? No, really, what the bloody hell do I do? What would you want most? I had to make a choice. I had to take a chance. And I had to hope to the heavens that I was right. Knowing you as well as I do by now, I’m pretty sure I am."

Basically, she reformatted the book while with an editor, then later broke with that editor, and changed a lot of the content back to the original version.

Hey, first of all thank you so much for your blog, I’ve checked in on it periodically for years, and even though my feelings have changed for EA SO MUCH over the years, she’ll always be one of my favorite artists, and it’s nice to look back on through this blog. I wanted to ask though, I swear there used to be YT vids listed as an EA “Advent Calendar” and I’m not sure if this is also the same thing, but a video with EA (and friends?) riding a carriage in Chicago? I feel like I made this up but I swear it was real? Hope you are well 🖤

Avatar

Ah! You're talking about two different series.

The Advent Calendar was an online release of short videos of Emilie during Christmas season 2006. You can find them all here. Fun fact: these were filmed during the creation of Laced/Unlaced, which is teased in these videos, and she appears to be living with Brendon Small and his dog named Ernie.

The carriage video you're referencing is "A Day Out With EA," which was included on The End Records release of Opheliac.

And thank you for all your sweet words. ♥️

How much of what were told about Emilie is actually true? I assume the name is fake, at least the whole Liddell thing, and a lot of the modern chunks of the book are very altered to fit the rest

It's impossible to know how much of The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls is true and how much is exaggerated or fabricated. (I'm focusing on the book here because that's where loads of "controversy" comes from.)

There are moments in the book that can be tied to certain events in her life through context clues, mainly in the original Diaries from hardback editions. Other factoids about her life have been disclosed publicly over the years from friends, acquaintances, family, and (former) management / business partners.

The claim that she's directly descended from Alice Liddell of "Alice in Wonderland" fame can be disproven from that family's historical records.

The modern chunks of the book have had details altered over the years, then reverted back or completely edited out. It's a mess that I've never tracked completely.

But, at the end of the day, the book is not an autobiography. It's a fictional fantasy thriller based around events in EA's life. The only way to know what's "true" would be her private medical records, which are hers to keep or disclose. Obviously.

Content from her early Asylum Journal Entries all seem fairly honest and raw, though. I don't think anything dramatic has happened in relation to those, as they were retellings of moments in her life that were pretty standard (partying, thoughts and feelings, recording sessions, goings-on, etc.).

If we're speaking of Joo Hee, you all should listen to London, Islington Academy 19/4/08 videos, her cello is easily hearable in that and another (at Studio 24?) show. I Want My Innocence Back and Liar with Joo Hee's live cello slaps :D

How have I never seen these before? These are surprisingly high quality for a 2008 fan recording!

Liar:

I Want My Innocence Back:

Shalott:

Thank God I'm Pretty:

These were the shows meant to be on the DVD, by the way.

i was looking at a old interview where someone asked "According to the numbers, not every letter from Emil-y is published in the book. Do these unpublished letters exist somewhere? May they ever be shared?" and ea replied saying there are hidden clues and that there are bits online hidden in secret links. are these links still available and if so how do you find them?

I assume the Goodreads Q&A is the interview you're referencing.

There are many links inside the eBook, but no hospital or asylum letters have been found. The only Asylum Letter currently missing from the book's index is Asylum Letter No. I, but that's because it's included inside of Hospital Entry 12: The First Note.

Did you notice that company that was supposed to do the table read production of her musical in spring 2022 listed their spring new content stuff festival and EA is no where to be found? As a fan of almost 20 years now disappointed but not surprised. As a fellow bipolar you have to get your crap together at some point. This musical is only happening in her mind.

Avatar

Yes, but I've been hesitant to comment on it as Emilie is clearly going through a lot of medical struggles and is still following their instagram account. Their announcement post is still up about the musical is still up, too.

The world of theatre is very fluid—if she has health issues that have been impacting her ability to finish a draft for IAMT to work with, her project likely got pushed forward.

That's why I haven't said anything.

EDIT: Apparently the musical is being delayed "due to COVID."

sorry if this is like late but as dumb as this might sound I really feel like this tumblr page is my safe place, it's nice to come here and know that other people are into the same music I like, I'm usually never able to find people with the same interest as me. I truly do love it here.

That's one of the nicest things anyone's ever said about this blog. Thank you! ♥️♥️♥️ Stay as long as you like.

Anonymous asked:

who is lady joo hee?

This question makes me sad and happy at the same time. It's been so long! Some people don't even know who Joo Hee is!!!

Well, here's your answer: Lady Joo Hee was the first Bloody Crumpet and the only Bloody Crumpet to play an instrument alongside EA.

She was recruited via ad, which was posted to the Asylum Forums (and elsewhere) in August of 2004.

Wanted: Female cellist to join the lineup of an all-female chamber-pop group fronted by violinist/singer of national renown. You must have your own gear (electric cello or cello with pickup and amp, effects, etc.), be in or around Chicago, and an appreciation for eclectic tastes that go beyond straight classical music (or straight rock for that matter). The band’s goal is to perform locally and tour nationally in support of albums already recorded. If you have any background in early music (Baroque, Renaissance, even Celtic), we’ll love you even more. Your talents as a seriously trained instrumentalist will be greatly appreciated (!!!) but we’d love it if you have a tendency to rock as well. An affection for corsets, glitter, and stage makeup is nice but optional.

She was a Bloody Crumpet from 2004/2005 to 2008, appearing alongside Emilie in her first-ever Opheliac show at the Double Doors in 2006. Most people believe that she recorded all the cello tracks for Opheliac, but she isn't directly credited as doing so. She's only mentioned under Emilie's "thank you" list.

Lady Joo Hee (All My Love)

Lady Joo Hee toured intermittently with EA and the other crumpets as her schedule allowed, departing during the Plague Tour in 2008. Here's a video of her playing live cello in one of her final appearances:

She was also featured in the earliest versions of The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls, though she was later replaced with Sachiko. See her name mentioned in a 2008 book reading below:

She still lives and works in Chicago to this day, but hasn't revisited the Asylum since her "escape."

I don't know if you knew about this or posted about this yet, but there is three videos posted by areyousuffering on youtube titled, Emilie Autumn: the asylum outcry, Emilie Autumn: the asylum outcry part II, and Emilie Autumn: the asylum outcry part III. the video's were about her getting photos done for (I think) Opheliac album

Yes!

The Asylum Outcry Video Podcast was a three-part podcast filmed in 2009. It was meant to be a continuous series, but ended after three episodes. Here's one of the Forum Journal entries where she talks about it.

There was also another video podcast before this, circa 2006-ish. Only two teasers and a few photos were released. I believe the footage was lost during one of the robberies Emilie suffered, but I can't source that info right now.

so i was bored and looked up what movies emilie autumn was in and of course devils carnival came up but two other movies came up, 11-11-11 and Mirror, Mirror 2: Raven Dance im literally so confused i thought she was only in devils carnival and Alleluia the devils carnival

(Note: because this is public info from a very large website, I feel comfortable posting this.)

Emilie has been in a few movies. There's TDC and TDC2, of course, but there's also the two you mentioned.

11-11-11 is another Darren Lynn Bousman movie. She had a very minor cameo as a vlogger. (That's her old home in Chicago in the background!)

She was also in Mirror Mirror 2: Raven Dance, (credited under another name) as Violinist. This movie is terrible, but weirdly enough, it's also Mark Ruffalo's debut. So there's that.

EA would've been a teenager when it was filmed and you can hear her violin in a few parts of the movie, but I haven't found a scene of her physically on screen.

If you want to try sitting through it, be my guest. I assume she'd be the body double for the main character's little brother.

Hi! I'm the person from the last question! I actually found out about her through her book (I'm a big reader). I was just curious about what the genre the Enchant album is (I haven't gotten around to listen to it yet), how old was she when she first started, did the Victorian style start when Opheliac was released or before, and when her first concert was and what that was about? I hope this wasn't too much questions! I tend to get really interested in new artist's I find.(And maybe too excited)

Enchant is faerie-pop, or maybe medieval-pop. It's lovely.

She started playing violin around 4 years old (reports vary slightly) and continued through her adolescence. In her teenage/young adult years she played classically, until she released Chambermaid in 2001, by which point she had begun singing professionally.

The full Victorian inspired look came in 2006, which was heavily inspired by the VECONA brand when they began to collab during the Opheliac era. But Emilie had shifted toward a more victorian, ophelia-like look for Opheliac before its release, probably inspired by her time with Courtney Love. This was around 2004/5.

(Note: if you look up VECONA now, you'll get Vecona Vintage, which is a different style than the one that was made throughout the mid-2000s. It's the same designer, though.)

Her first vocal performances and concerts were around 2000/2001 during the Enchant Era. Her first Opheliac concert was in 2006. Her first Fight Like A Girl concert was in 2012. Is there a specific moment you're referencing?

Hope this helps!

Similar boat with the nostalgia from her stuff. feelings are complicated! Her music and stories helped me through a really tough time and probably a big reason why I'm doing as alright as I am now, but with all she's done it's just avdhckk like yeah I miss the feelings I had when I first discovered EA and would love to feel better like I did then, but ugh I do not want to support her after all she's pulled. (hope this makes sense I'm tired lol)

Agreed!!!! 100%!!!
