are flee and emilie still involved? flee still posts about emilie’s merch on her tumblr, but afaik that seems to be it. they don’t follow each other on instagram, last i checked

At the risk of sounding like a drama channel, here's what I can glean from the surface:

  • Emilie and fLee no longer follow eachother on Instagram and Twitter, but various Crumpets are mutuals with her. (To note: EA's official accounts don't follow her. I don't know if EA has ghost social accounts.)
  • The fLeesmarket accounts are mostly automated; they post using IFTTT links. It's definitely unmanned most of the time. Sometimes it posts links to merch pages that aren't complete.
  • fLee posted about Emilie as recently as 12/2/19, so. There's that.
  • fLee used to be the frontrunner of EA's online space, but that moved to the Asylum Headmistress (Melissa King) and then to Courtney of the SSS. She hasn't been very active in the fandom since maybe 2014?

I've been blocked from all her Tumblrs for a long time, so I can't reference anything for you there. But that's what I know.

Keep in mind that fLee has a family and her own life. She still lives in Chicago. Friends drift apart sometimes, but we don't know their situation.

And for any of you who don't know who Queen fLee is... that makes me feel old.

I really want the first edition of Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls cause I know the first few editions are probably drastically different than the audio book version and I wanna know the differences!

Hi! Here's a short explanation without pictures because I'm at work.

The first edition is the story in its original format (with slight edits when compared to early live readings), and the binding on it is notoriously bad. This was fixed somewhat in the second printing of the first edition. [Hardcover]

The second edition has grammar and spelling fixes, some changed graphics, and better printer quality overall. The color styling of the author's name is changed on the cover. A PDF exists of this version. [Hardcover]

The third edition is the audiobook, which features major revisions to characters and plot. At the time there was a possibility of the book being published somewhere mainstream and had received some professional edits. [Digital]

The fourth edition is the current softcover printing and eBook, complete with the Spoon of the Royals Treasure Hunt. It is the closest version to the audiobook, but does have revisions. [Paperback]

I heard there was a version of Opheliac that never got released but sounded more like Enchant, is that true?

I too have heard that rumour, however, it wasn’t from anyone I’d consider a trustworthy source so I can’t say for sure. I’d be interested to hear more demos of Opheliac songs, but I think the only demo out there is the Gothic Lolita one that Emilie released in 2004.

I’ll come back and post more info later, but there were a number of demos EA released via Journals for Opheliac. Gothic Lolita, I Want My Innocence Back, and I think Opheliac itself.

So just cross checked this with everything I’ve got and also the list of MP3s that were on Battered Rose (archive.org is my true love in this world some days…) and there is only a demo of Gothic Lolita, a spoken word version of I Want My Innocence Back that originates from Naked Feminist Poetry, but I cannot find anything anywhere that points to any earlier version of Opheliac the song itself.

You’re right!

I went back through the downloads I grabbed from Battered Rose before they closed. There’s the two you mentioned and a handful of other songs, but nothing specifically from Opheliac. I’ll post them as audio files separately.

The song Opheliac doesn’t have a demo - I realized I was thinking of this:

It almost had a single and that was the cover, but it never came to be. Here’s a better look:

(Fun fact: If I Burn was originally slated for Opheliac.)

NAC: Does anybody know where the full audio for songs like "Faces Like Mine" and "Willow" (the lyrical one) came from? I know that at least a snippet of the former came from one of EA's old sites, but I'm not sure whether or not it was the full song. Thanks!

Faces Like Mine and Willow were both released as a free digital download on the original forum site, I believe! You might want to check @shefightslikeagirl though, as my memory from way back when is rather fuzzy.

(Fun fact, I’m on Tumblr so infrequently, I rarely see when WVC tags me.)

Quick Answer: Battered Rose (RIP) had these up for download, which means that at some point they were both available on either the old EA website or on the forums.

Long Answer: Willow was originally written by EA as a duet for herself and Morrisey. Harkening back to forum days, I believe there was a journal entry where she said she threw a demo of the song up on the stage at one of his concerts, with hopes he would listen to it. I’d imagine that was where this song first popped up.

Faces Like Mine has a more vague story. It popped up as a song intended for The Jane Brooks Project (thanks, WayBack machine!), but I have absolutely no idea where the full file was posted online. It could have been online in the early days of the forum or Traitor Records had the full song up for preview. It lived on Battered Rose for a long time and in wingedzypher’s lyric videos on YouTube (deactivated). I’m 90% sure the demo is a live recording. It could have also popped upon the mythical forum-before-the-forum from the early Enchant days, but I haven’t ever been able to access the site.

I absolutely love the Asylum audiobook, don’t get me wrong, but… Why did she remove the cutting, suicide, and drugs diaries? Those were my favorite parts, and I’m very sad that they’re not included. Also I remembered a tweet of hers saying something about recording the line in the suicide diary that says “pain, pain, pain, pain […]” so.. I don’t understand. Did she record it then remove it?

As far as I can tell, you’re right - she did record the diaries and decide not to publish them. If you have access to the audiobook preview page, there’s an excerpt of the Cutting Diary available for preview.

NAC; got a little confused. Did EA promise that the audiobook would be done two years ago, or did she promise there'd be an audiobook two years ago?

Well if my memory is not failing me (because at this point I’m really not too sure any more) it was announced roughly this time of year back in 2014– whether or not an actual release date was promised, or if it was an assumption we made, I can’t remember.Essentially a lot of us assumed that since it was up for pre-order, it was already finished/nearly finished, so we figured we were looking at a month or two. Then came the microphone delay

The rest, as they say, is history.

But as I say, at this point my memory is surely failing me, so I could easily be wrong. I’m not sure if an actual promise was made but the fact that it was a pre-order had us believing it would soon be done.— ❤Faerie Admin

NAC: Please tell me that someone actually recorded the new song on Periscope. I can't find it anywhere and I'm going crazy. If not, please tell all about it! Name? Rythm? Opinions? Lyrics? Arghhhhhh, I need this!!!

Help is needed, guys! :o Anywhere we can find this?— ❤Faerie Admin

I was watching the Periscope session at the time. There were about 35-40 people present while Emilie played the song, and she had requested that no one record or download the session. As far as I know, no one did.
