All of this talk of injured Jack/Bitty has brought up something I have been thinking about since Shinny was posted…
Bitty falling through the ice? I imagine Chowder getting incredibly excited about seeing a lake freeze over for the first time (I’ve been there, it’s so weird if you’ve never seen it before), and trying to wander out onto the ice. And of course it holds him until he gets to the middle and then it starts cracking, and Bitty panics. He is lightest, so logically he should save his precious son Chowder. And he just slides across the ice and pushes Chowder out of the way, just in time to drop into the freezing water. And Jack rescues Bitty and cuddling ensues, and Jack refusing to let Bitty out of his sight, and banning any of the team from even thinking about a shinny until the lake has been frozen for a week, at minimum. And poor, sweet Chowder feeling so guilty, but Bitty just cuddles him too, constantly reassuring Chowder that Bitty would do the same thing over again if it meant keeping Chowder from falling through the ice. (And Jack is just sighing in the background, determined not to let that even be an option again. Chowder will not be endangered again, and Bitty is not allowed on the lake until Ransom and Holster jump around on it and make sure it is solid)
