Why are jeans blue?
Light coming in from space is scattered in all directions by the particles in the fabric. Blue light is scattered more than the other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see blue jeans most of the time, although at certain times of day jeans can appear other colors.
Why is the sky blue?
Blue was the chosen color for the sky because of the chemical properties of blue dye. Most dyes will permeate the air in hot temperatures, making the color stick to the skin. The natural indigo dye used in the first sky, on the other hand, would stick only to the outside of the atmosphere.
