THIS IS HUGE
Friday, November 28th
That Neil DeGrasse Tyson quote... I often think about a text post I saw one saying that every generation gets "slightly better science and slightly less racism" or something along those lines. And racism isn't by any means over, or anywhere near over - this is the work of generations - but we're one step farther than we were.
Please everyone signal boost this!!
This will be France’s FIRST protest for Ferguson and we are trying to make it heard. It will be in Nice, France on Saturday at 5:30 pm and will be a candlelight vigil for Mike Brown.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEEAASE SIGNAL BOOST THIS GUYS
Hey y’all this is super important because France is infamously racist, especially in regards to anti-blackness.
not to mention islamophobic, anti-arab, and antisemetic. Hopefully this’ll spark change.
what the fuck.
It really just fucking hit me that people from the Westboro Baptist Church are able to express their “RIGHT TO PROTEST” while police protect them, but when the people of Ferguson protest for basic human rights, they’re tear gassed, arrested, and antagonized. It’s not about race though, right? (:
Still relevant.
SOUTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL — MINNEAPOLIS, MN Black Out and 4 1/2 hours of silence for Mike Brown
#you’re changing the world keep going
I spoke with students from this school prior to the rally at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and they said that not only did their principal/administration know this was going to be happening, but they had the floors washed, too, knowing students would be sitting and laying down on it.
I love to see young people organizing, and I love when their efforts are supported by the adults in their life.
Protesters say police are now shooting actual bullets at actual citizens.
#stoptheparade #ferguson
Omg… this is…. I support this
Considering some protests were recently run over by a car, I would like to add to all going to protest in front of the parade: please stay safe.
IF YOURE PROTESTING IN NYC DO NOT FOLLOW THE PROTEST INTO THE PARK. THATS WHERE THEY ARE HERDING US.
I feel too sad about what’s happening in Ferguson right now (or lately). I also feel proud for the people who won’t stay quiet. For the people who are fighting against corruption, racism and for justice.
But I wanna ask something to you all. Please, don’t forget what is happening in Mexico right now. We are also fighting, just like you. The world is becoming crap. We are fighting even for the resignation of our corrupt president. We’ve been fighting for peace for almost ten years. Please, don’t forget us.
We won’t forget Ferguson, because we, the whole country of Mexico, know what is it like to see innocent people being murdered and seeing the culprits going free.
Really quick, in case anyone else is protesting and needs last minute advice
Protest resources:
- Don’t touch your face if you are teargassed
- Run against the wind
- Don’t keep too much distance from the police - they can’t tear gas you if you’re too close
- Don’t rub your eyes or wash your face with water - use milk, coke, or alcohol
- If you can’t run, cover your face and breathe slowly
- Alcohol-based perfume or hairspray on a scarf counteracts teargas (source)
- How to escape zipties
- How to build a teargas mask
- Your rights as a protester and what to do if you are arrested
This is all I have at the moment please add more links if you have any and/or correct mine as needed. Be safe.
You want to know what’s fucking terrifying? Tumblr may be blowing up about Michael Brown now, but this will be old news in a week. I’m calling it. it not a week, two weeks. But soon, we’ll forget. We’ll return to normal. the black community will fade into the background once again because no one else but them are calling attention to all this bullshit. It happened when it first came out that Michael Brown had been shot, and it’ll happen again. We’re justice hungry, but we also have the attention span of the fucking cats we devote blogs to. And I pray this won’t happen because WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT AND WE NEED TO CALL FOR JUSTICE ALWAYS. For the sake of Michael Brown and all other black youth targeted by the system. WE NEED TO NOT LET THIS ANGER DIE.
texas v johnson: burning the flag is legal

"the social media spread misinformation"

Martin Luther King {the one you never quote} (via everythingrhymeswithalcohol)
biggest fast food strike yet…is happening across the country today…workers in 60 cities…walked out of their fast food (and, in some cases, retail) jobs. The workers are calling for a living wage of $15 an hour and for the right to form a union without intimidation or retaliation…In every strike, workers cite a simple fact: They cannot live on the $7.25 or $8 they are paid, especially with unpredictable part-time schedules that make their paychecks vary wildly from week to week…
more.
They’re crazy if they believe they’re gonna get that.
They're crazy if they think they shouldn't get that.
