Knowing when to shut up has always been one of Dave’s worst skills, but this really takes the cake.

I don’t know why this amuses me so much.  I just hope we someday have a word for how done Karkat is at this point in the story.

Sunburn

There was a hurt/comfort OTP prompt going around a while ago that asked you to consider one member of your OTP getting sunburnt and the other putting aloe lotion on them, so I wrote a little ficlet with the universe The-Debilitated-Highbloods and I are working in right now, where Dave is albino.  It only came out to 280 words, but it's cute. :)

“Wwhoa.  Davve, wwhat happened?”

“i told you. i got sunburned”

“So that’s a sunburn?”

“yeah”

“Can’t you prevvent that?  Humans havve livved wwith the sun since they wwere amoebas.”

“I could have yes if id realized how much light reflected off the moons. but here we are”

“Wwhat can I do?”

“burn lotion helps. They should have plenty of that at the palace”

After a few moments of looking at you like you’re a puzzle to be solved, he tells you, “You didn’t look like that wwhen wwe left the beach.”

“yeah they take a few hours to set in. ill be redder when we get home”

“Trolls nevver havve this problem.”

“well human skin responds a lot to sunlight and my skin is special and by special i mean hugely inconvenient so im really not surprised that it jumped at the opportunity to mess up my life since it hasnt done that for perigees. ill be fine”

Eridan frowns at you like he thinks you’re hiding all the pain you must be in.  You’re just looking forward to having burn cream applied by his cool seadweller hands.  It isn’t horrible, but it’ll be nice to feel it less.

When you get back to the summer palace, you ask a butler for a mild burn cream suitable for humans.  You get it in a couple minutes and Eridan insists that you let him put it on you, which you’re perfectly fine with, anyway.  You sit still(ish) as he rubs more than the recommended amount of cream into your skin.  Then the whole thing devolves into kisses and cute jokes and reminding him how cool he looked in the water.
