also another reason you know the animators made anakin ugly and did that to his face on purpose is because irl ewen mcgregor also has the chin cleft and an actually much more square jawline than hayden christiansen does, but in the deception arc when they shave obi-wan’s face, he doesn’t have that chin cleft at all AND his jawline is the more slender narrow one we see on hayden irl.

seriously, ignore the nose and shaved obi looks more like anakin than the actual anakin model

YEAH SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY who the FUCK is in charge of the character models in tcw turn on your locations i just want to talk

very very good point anon, thank you for reminding me of that. it’s not just that they make anakin uglier on purpose, they also weirdly woobify obi-wan in contrast (which, to be fair, im not complaining about, i love my uwu tcw obi-wan, i adore him, i want to wrap him in a blanket and give him hot chocolate). it’s only MADDENING because why the fuck did they have to exaggerate anakin’s Manly Manliness like that?? why not just let them be soft boys together????

idk where to talk about this at all; it's def not my intention to start a discourse. but sometimes i think about the 'anakin eats bugs' inside joke and i find it... not funny? as in, i don't take offense, more like i just find it completely not laugh-inducing.

i mean, within context, the scene clearly frames it as comic relief, yes. you’re meant to think it’s disgusting, cause oh, he eats the bugs and worms alive, and he’s exaggerating it and everything. but out of context... what's so funny about eating insects?

it's kinda not, both from an in-universe and a meta perspective.

in-universe, anakin was raised a slave. on a desert. probably fucking half starved all the time. probably learned to make do with whatever is the closest thing to nutrition that he could scavenge. it’s not far off that he’s probably used that kinda ingredient for dishes before. it’s not even far off that some type of insect might be a traditional ingredient, either. (hell, i grew up around a dish made of pupa.) what do you know about tatooine cuisine and why are you so ready to look down on it?

from a meta pov, looking down on insects as a source of nutrition is /incredibly/ western-centric. it reminds me of all the 'you eat bats' jokes. grilled crickets/grasshoppers/spiders are a street snack in thailand, and laos too i think. the implication, when you look down on people who consume insects, is that it's not 'correct' food. it's unhygienic? what do you know about other cultures' culinary, though?

maybe im just touchy and reading too much into a kids show and a cute little running gag. or maybe there are things to be criticized about humor in shows made by white people in 2003. idek man, i just gotta let this out. this joke is so tired to me.
