itachi’s mission report
Sometimes a calm afternoon with your adopted son is what you might need
literally madara's whole story is abt how desire destroys and corrupts i think. like first, its his longing and wanting for closeness with hashirama ... which then ends in him trusting him enough that he doesnt expect to be stabbed in the back. the fact that it happens this way is also caused by him wanting closeness w him so bad bc otherwise .. he might have found a way to collect the gene material without driving hashirama to kill him this way. or kill him at all. (remember that madara only collects the cells AFTER hashirama has already stabbed him. in kuro zetsu's re-telling of this u can see that he turns around, Bites the piece out of his shoulder a second before he dies. this also means that madara had prolonged that fight --several fights. actually--- as much as he could prior to this cuz he did not want it to end and he might have still had some hope that hashirama could help him). so ... desire for closeness with him, it ends up killing him. destroying him bc hashirama so very symbolically cuts right thru his heart when he kills him. madara finds something else to pursue afterwards. he puts the power that he has collected, from his beloved, Right into his heart, into the wound, into the hole that hashirama has left there when he destroyed it.
but the power ends up destroying him too. so much more drastically even. madara wants the power so bad, he's not able to see anything else or control himself in the pursuit of it. u can see that the more power he gains, the more he WANTS it, the more it affects him, the more .. escalatory and more tyrannic he becomes. the godtree at some point speaks to him but what does he do .. he listens. obeys, takes the tree and its power within himself cuz it goes along with what he wants. kaguya and madara want the same thing, thats why its so easy for her and her son to convince him. there's nothing there anymore that could stop him. there is no way to quell his desire ... and madara in the end absorbs so much power that it LITERALLY breaks him apart. that last part happens against his will, granted, bc kaguya is the one pulling more chakra into his body when she is abt to manifest. but its still a good image i think for the way madara in the end loses control over what he wants. or he wants it so bad, he's incapable of seeing the signs that might maybe could have been a warning that there's smth wrong here. or that What He's Doing is maybe the opposite actually what he was planning to achieve. he wants SO MUCH of it also, his own body cannot take the pressure of it anymore .. and it breaks him, it rips him apart. his desire for power takes control over him .. just like the sage said. he becomes just like kaguya, whom he has previously condemned for her tyranny. and her egocentricity and hunger for power. he falls into exactly the same trap that she once fell into .. but he was never meant to have all that power. he was never meant to become a god, he was never meant to connect his heart w hashirama the way he wanted, either. he was meant to forever be in pursuit of what he longs for, so badly, he was meant to have all his desires destroy him

kakashi says “let’s do a trust exercise,” next thing yamato knows they’re flying down the hill with only their big toes on the handles & guy is screaming “YOOOOOOOUUUUUUUTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
based off @chronically-pansy's ideal world where these three take turns racing down a hill in guy's wheelchair
They’re the best characters in Naruto, actually
