Designs created for a never produced Henry Selick project.
In their house in Tijuana on the kitchen table wall, my parents have a 1995 framed cell from my 1st CalArts student film. The tiny short was about a little Mexican boy that was taken by death to a loving and whimsical underworld. Good thing I moved on from that stuff…
Video of an early design presentation. We approved everything presented in the room that day. It's nice to have people like Kent Melton and Megan Tindle plussing your work, making it better than it is on the page.
My original designs for Hanzo Origami.
Megan Tindle's first version of Hanzo Origami, created for a script delivery and studio update back in 2012
One of my wife's incredible paper sculptures for Kubo. She inspired the story and was a big part of creating the origami creatures along with Mari Tobita. Check her out @mb_papersculpt .
Superman design for an unproduced Super Friends project.
Another day, another Super Friend. I've always been partial to Hal Jordan.
Can't imagine why I'd be compelled to draw this guy.
Bizarro I designed for an unrealized Super Friends project several years ago. Short lived freelance, but I got to sit in a room with Bruce Timm and chat superheroes. Not bad:-)
A collaboration with my good pal, Daniel Hashimoto. This was delivered along with the first draft of the script and was inspired by two very important women.

This is possible because of the love shared between my wife and her mother and the work of my amazingly dedicated crew. Kubo was and is a memorial to family and the memories we share that make us strong enough to transform ourselves and others through love. Artwork by Lou Romano
Destroyed village set from Kubo. I'd do rounds of all the sets to give notes and suggestions. My particular note on this set was ,"make it look more wet." Pretty sure the crew got tired of hearing that. Sorry guys and thanks for the amazing work;-
My inner Moonbeast.
During early exploration, this was the 1st Monkey drawing that felt “right”. All paintings and maquettes after, began with this design.
Hope defeats despair in this early beat board created for Kubo.
I’d like to end the year with hope. An old drawing of Kubo’s mother, singing against the storm.
