Shoutouts to scalpers for ruining Mattel’s Jurassic World toys for everyone
I saw the Dino Rivals Dimetrodon one time in-person, but passed on it. I went to look for one online two weeks later, and the cheapest option was $250
I have literally never seen the Primal Attack Scutosaurus, either in-person or online
It’s actually absurd
Saw this video on youtube where some guy made a 30-min rant about how much he hates the Amber Collection raptor figures. And he decided to open it by talking about how the packaging art swapped Delta and Echo’s portraits - the Delta figure has a picture of Echo on it, and vice versa.
And honestly I’m just astounded that there are people who can tell Delta and Echo apart enough to even notice that.
There is only one figure to complain about in that series, and that is the Pteranodon with its overly thick wing fingers but other than that…
The dinosaur figure collector community is quite something
Yeah, and it was the fact that this guy was getting so upset about such an inconsequential thing. He devoted almost a full minute of his rant to this mistake.
He even went on a long tangent about how Delta’s box art had “Echo’s iconic scar over her eye.” I’ve seen JW at least four times, and I literally did not know that Echo has a scar over her eye until he pointed it out. That’s not an iconic feature, that’s an incidental detail that 95% of viewers didn’t even notice.
Also, I totally agree with you about the Pteranodon. It’s an impressive display piece to be sure, but what’s the point of doing the whole “bendy wire in rubber” thing to make the wings flexible, then make the rubber coating so thick that you can barely even move the wire? It’s really strange.

Besides the Postosuchus the only other 2020 Schleich animal of their prehistoric line that is worth a look is the Baryonyx, the overall anatomy is alright, the leg posture is a bit awkward but I do like the long neck and how wide the jaws open
The artist is a different one from the one who made the 2019 Schleich Spinosaurus, the divergence in style is noticeable, still both look quite nice and they both show how different the skulls of Spinosaurus and Baryonyx are from each other
There are better Baryonyx figures by CollectA and Safari Ltd., the latter to be released by 2021 and of course the rare one by Favorite Co. Ltd. but the Schleich one isn’t a bad figure either, I’d rate it about as good as the ones by Mojö and at least it has better anatomy than the Papo one which mysteriously has the head of a Spinosaurus
The colours seem to be inspired by the Jurassic World Suchomimus that Julius Csotonyi designed
The pink eyes are a nice and unusual touch I like quite a lot
Toyway is perhaps more well known for their officially licensed line of Walking with Dinosaurs toys of 1998 but in 2006 they also produced a line of museum exclusive figures for the Natural History Museum London
The quality of these sculpts varies drastically and thus only few of them interest me personally but their Corythosaurus is one of the best toy figures made of this genus
The Corythosaurus is boxed in a set with a Carnotaurus figure, both models are at a scale of 1:55
Corythosaurus is a lambeosaurine hadrosaur from the Late Cretaceous of North America and shared its environment with Parasaurolophus, Daspletosaurus and Chasmosaurus
The holotype specimen AMNH 5240 which Barnum Brown discovered in 1911 is so well preserved it even features skin impressions
The Natural History Museum London museum exclusive Corythosaurus is a fine addition for those who love ornithopods with quite decent anatomy and simple yet pretty colouration
Carnotaurus is an abelisaurid ceratosaur from the Late Cretaceous of Argentina
Only one skeleton was found, the holotype specimen MACN-CH 894 during an expedition led by José Bonaparte in 1984 and just as Coythosaurus in excellent condition with skin impressions
It is certainly not the best Carnotaurus figure, there are far better examples by companies such as CollectA or Safari Ltd. and despite having some accurate features such as a correct number of fingers other aspects such as the snout length might be a bother
The colouration is however quite nice making it not too bad as a necessary evil to acquire the Corythosaurus figure
Wow, the colors on that Carnotaurus look really familiar...

For anyone who is still planning to purchase this toy (and hasn’t already) a word of warning:
While this toy is unquestionably very big and impressive, it has a single not-exactly-insignificant design flaw.
The hinge joint at the base of the neck is not strong enough to support the neck’s weight. As a result, it can’t hold its head up except in the single pose shown in the above image.
Unfortunately, this continues a trend I’ve noticed of Mattel’s Jurassic World toys looking great but having terrible quality control. These toys are not cheap (this one retails $50USD), and there is no excuse for a major company like Mattel to have such consistently poor QC.
I don’t know if I just have really bad luck, but I figured I’d make this post to make people aware of an issue I found.

I’m like three levels deep on an amazon search and I feel like I’ve found something I shouldn’t be looking at directly

THERE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SIX OF THEM, WHERE ARE THE OTHER TWO?!
you can find them listed here and this, by far, is the best image out of the set

There’s a lot to unpack here.
