Avatar: The Last Airbender inspired binding. Each marbled paper represents a different element. Of course the symbols are embedded on the cover as well with the arrows as a nod to Aang's tattoos.
Spider Gwen Vol. 0+1 bound together. I had the spider tool made custom as I've done a few different Spiderverse books but this is by far my favorite. Gwen's color scheme is so fun and it's was a blast to make this. The base is actually a white bookcloth typically used for wedding albums. The black frontis piece is leather and all hand tooled with foil. Of course the inside end papers are hand marbled.
Locke & Key Vol. 1 done in a really historical Gothic style with the oversized spine and corner pieces and the heavy tooling. This is really difficult to photograph (as you can see) and required multiple sessions to try and capture the blind tooling. I had a custom skeleton key made for this bind. I sort of want to go back and do the whole series with one of the featured keys for each cover. That would be fun!
Lore Olympus Vol. 1. This sold almost immediately which doesn't surprise me as that fandom is very enthusiastic. I'm glad my friend recommended the series and super pleased with how this came out. I had that feather paper for a long time and it seemed made for this project. I also hand marbled the end papers to go with the clash of the colors so like the artwork inside.
God I love how this came out. This is vol. 1 of Labyrinth: Coronation. I bought an owl tool just for this book. Bound in leather with hand made marbled endpapers. The labyrinths on each cover are sewn into the boards. That took a while. I just got all three volumes in so I'm going to do it again but with all three this time. Super excited!
This is a commission I did for a friend of the Joker graphic novel. It glows under black light. It was a complex project but ultimately I'm incredibly pleased with how it came out.
My rebinding of The Hobbit, the illustrated version. This book came out lovely. It's one of the few examples I didn't use hand marbled paper but Chiyogami paper (the decorative tree paper) instead. It was the right call. The rest is green goatskin with some metal furniture (decorative pieces on the cover). And of course the gold tooling on the cover and spine are all hand done.
One of my more recent binds, Alice Oseman's Heartstopper Vol. 1. Loved this series, love the show. Huge fan. As simple as this is, I'm so pleased with how it came out. Of course, hand marbled endpapers and paper on the cover with the titling. This bind also gave me a chance to use the flower tool I made myself along with the leaf to match the styling of the graphic novel itself.
Maybe one of the more challenging rebinds I've done was Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 1. The alchemic symbols on the front and back took hours for the cricut to cut out and then I still had to hand cut them to get them right. But it was worth it! Red marbling on the front and back cut outs and hand marbled end papers. I sold this copy but I think I'll do it again for myself.
Eye of the World by Robert Jordan rebound in leather. I had a custom heron tool made for the spine. The cover pieces are actually a medieval technique called eggshell veneer with real egg shells ground up and used like mosaic pieces to represent the cuendillar seals from the books. This was a fun bind.
This was definitely challenging to get the sandworms across the spine like that. I sawed in channels and sewed them like over-sized sawn-in bands before covering the covers in leather. There's marbled paper in the cut out gaps and on the inside end papers inspired by, of course, spice.
Pretty punk and fun version of the Death: The Special Edition graphic novel rebound in black goatskin with silver studs along the front cover. This is one of the first books I rebound after bookbinding school. I had a custom ankh tool made to silver tool the front and back covers along the spine cloth which is Italian bookcloth. Inside endpapers are hand marbled.
Finished this one a bit ago but in honor of Deadpool and Wolverine I'll post here. This is a rebound version of the graphic novel Deadpool Bad Blood. The Deadpool emblem in the front is actually a built in pocket to house the swords. The swords are connected to act like a page holder. This project was lots of fun.
All three volumes of Beneath the Dark Crystal graphic novel bound together in leather. Hand marbled endpapers representing the different races above and below. And blind tooling on the cover.
Here's a copy of DC's Pride issue 2019 I rebound in marbled paper with custom paste papers on the inside. This sold to a dear friend for her daughter and knowing it went to a good home and someone to whom it meant something made me incredibly happy.
Custom version of the Dark Phoenix Saga I rebound for a client. Super happy with how it turned out.
This is what they call a dos e dos or Z-binding. Vol 1 and 2 of Bleach manga. Full goatskin leather with parchment (real not the kind you use in baking) on the mask piece. Hand painted edges and hand-marbled endpapers.
