A while ago I read about autistic people and nesting somewhere & I think we don't talk about that enough. Apparently, a lot of autistic people like nesting. I love nesting. I carefully choose a space to build my nest and I bring all my little trinkets there. I surround myself with everything I love and everything I could possibly need in the next few hours- my water bottle, a snack, my weighted blanket, my soft blanket, hand creme, my headphones, my charger, my favorite stuffed animals- so I don't have to leave the nest to get anything. It makes me feel save and calm and like everything is gonna be ok. This is a nesting appreciation post. Any other autistics who love a good nest?

I really need you to understand this, because I say it from a place of care, and one of understanding: there is no shape you can make yourself into that will make them accept you.

They don't hate us because we're annoying, nor because we ask for too much. They hate us because they are bigots, and we face discrimination because transmisogyny is a pervasive and dominant force within our society. The amount of space they want us to take up is Zero.

We cannot make ourselves small enough to please them, and trying will only make you miserable, I know, because I spent a long time doing it.

I have purchased more than 50 game bundles on itch.io, totaling over 10,000 items. I have about 1500 games on my Steam account. I have over 3,000 ebooks in my ereader (mostly fanfic) and more in Calibre, and that's not getting into the rest of the 15-ish million fanfics on AO3. Project Gutenberg has several thousand free ebooks. I have shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu that I haven't watched, but if they all went away because of corporate fucked-up shenanigans, I have a few hundred DVDs and downloads kicking around here somewhere. I have a paltry music collection of 30-odd gb and a couple-hundred CDs I haven't gotten around to converting.

If EVERY PIECE OF MEDIA CREATED FOR THE NEXT 50 YEARS is by & for trans lesbians, somehow to such an extent that it does not appeal to me at all... I will not be lacking in books to read, shows to watch, songs to listen to, games to play, research materials to study. I have access to plenty of embroidery designs to use, costume patterns to make, recipes to cook, musical instruments to learn, and miscellaneous other craft projects to fill my leisure hours if I ever run out of fanfic to read, which does not seem likely, even if I'm restricted to what's already been published.

I will also note that OP said "by and for" trans lesbians. She didn't say which ones.

Much like how Yaoi's target audience is women, some trans lesbian will also be writing BL. And straight stuff. But, this is important, it will be told true a trans lesbian lens. Which means we'll get things like dainty butches, and muscular femmes.

So while the straight stuff will become a minority and GL will skyrocket, the other genres will probably remain at a similar amount. My life won't really change that much because I'm into niche shit.

This is a very interesting case where cultural differences come into play. I see this and yes, immediately what I see is the visual representation of “fellowship” and “teamwork”!  But to people from other cultures this can look like a bunch of people grabbing someone’s butt.

OK but I do genuinely believe we need to push for something like this before it's too late - and not just in digital spaces. We should have the right to peace and quiet from advertising. There should be more limits on how much and where we get advertising because otherwise it'll just become a creep of more and more until every fucking public space is lit with several billboards blasting us with ads, and the walls between spaces lined with ads, and our commutes filled with ads, and local parks sponsored by corporations to offset the cost of local councils, and so on and on and on and on. No. I need quiet. I need spaces where ads cannot touch me.

There are places working on it! Here's some:

Grenoble, France, in 2014 banned any new billboards and took down the city owned ones in a step towards de-advertizing public spaces. They swapped out the billboards with trees btw!

The city of Nantes in western France has recently banned most electronic billboards, dismantling 110 in one night. The municipality is also cutting digital advertising in shop windows and on the public transport system. It’s also banned all advertising near schools. Which is apart of Frances over all goal to reduce visual noise and light.

In 2009, Chennai, India prohibiting billboards, digital banners and placards in public spaces.

São Paulo Brazil created a law "Lei Cidade Limpa" (Portuguese for clean city law) in 2006

Several states, namely Maine, Vermont, Hawaii, and Alaska have banned Billboards and have been working on other electronic ad bans.

Pretty much the only time I wanna see a billboard is like... 5-10 miles away from a turn-off on the interstate. Like "hey, there's a resturant/gas station coming up." Anything else can be banned.
