Seasonal affective disorder havers how are we all coping

[ID: Two versions of the cat screaming at food bowl meme. The first has a clock showing 4pm and is captioned "WHY IS IT NIGHTTIME". The second has a November calendar and is captioned "WHY IS IT TEMPERATURES".]

I love how perfectly like clockwork this returns every November. Good morning northern hemisphere take your vitamin D

I'm rewatching arcane s2 (as one does) and I've been struck with the thought that Cait's grief is so inherently selfish and tone deaf.

Vi lost her parents at the hands of enforcers, and even if she's initially weary of Cait, she gives her the benefit of the doubt - she looks at her as a person first, and at her badge second.

And so many of the other people from the Undercity, who have lost so much and so many at the hands of Piltover, all give Cait the benefit of the doubt. They all put their grief to the side.

And then Cait loses her mother and all of sudden she asks Vi to become an enforcer? "now i understand how easy it is to hate them"? "It's her blood in your veins"?

She was only able to understand the Undercity's plight so long as she was safe in her privilege and didn't suffer for it.

I'm all here for her character arc, don't get me wrong, this is super interesting to watch, but I'm not entirely sure there's going to be a path of redemption for her.

im gonna need caitlyn defenders to be serious for a second talking about how "everyone wants a complex female character but hate caitlyn". mel was crucified for manipulating jayce into becoming part of the council and finding ways to increase her influence in piltover. caitlyn wants to impose martial law on people that are starved, disabled, impoverished, and riddled with all sorts of disease and affliction, attempted to commit an extrajudicial execution in front of a child, and shot at the one person who has been trying to support her in her grief, yet somehow fans that criticize or even dislike her are hypocrites? look inward friends, there is something festering in your hearts and minds, and itll start affecting how you engage with the real world very soon.

"Caitlyn is the daughter Ambessa wanted" Ambessa would never accept a daughter who was so easy to manipulate. the only thing Ambessa didn't like in Mel was her aversion to violence. Caitlyn's propensity towards it doesn't make up for all that she lacks that Mel has: diplomacy, experience, and the ability to tell when someone's playing you like a cheap harmonica

before Act 2 comes out I want to openly state that every opinion I have about Count Fagula is biased because I never liked her, even in season 1. a cop's a cop and that's that.

but I won't deny that there were moments where she showed care and concern for the people of the Undercity. even in this season, she initially only wanted to target Jinx.

I do consider this care and concern somewhat shallow and superficial considering how quickly she immediately turned to commiting war crimes and deny the Zaunites of their humanity the minute they fought back against their oppressors.

considering her position in the game, Caitlyn's likely never going to stop being a cop and I'm probably never going to like her. but, there's a chance she recognizes what she's doing is wrong and unfair and comes to regret it. there's a chance she becomes someone like Grayson, still upholding a flawed system, but at least doing her best to minimize harm. that, or she could double down and insist she was never wrong and do even more damage. I genuinely think it's up in the air. we'll see.

Thing that's bothering me about Arcane is that Piltover's government seems to have like... very little structure. What's the protocol if counsel members die? We don't know. There's no re-elections or chain of command or appointments or anything. We get no evidence that people were searched or IDs were checked before the memorial service; seemed an easy soft target for the undercity when Piltover JUST had a terrorist attack on their leadership. Then during the attack, there were only like a couple of enforcers there?? Shouldn't it be better guarded? Last season Marcus died but who became sheriff after him?? Nobody, apparently.

Like no wonder Ambessa can just stand up there and say "here is my army you need a general" and just pick someone and everyone goes "yeah." The gov seems to have no military structure or chain of command that can survive in the face of a real threat. It seems like they were just counting on the status quo lasting forever, which is insane considering how fragile it was.

A 22 yr old in my org got drunk tuesday night and kinda shit on the fact that I'm running a community cleanup for our chapter. Said something along the lines of "i didn't join up to pick trash." Which really bothers me and it took me a while to figure out why. The whole point of the community cleanup is that we're returning to the neighborhoods where we knocked doors for A4 to help clean up their streets and provide material improvement for free in an effort to build inroads with those neighbors.

Like... if your socialism doesn't include picking uo trash, I'm guessing it also doesn't include doing the dishes, babysitting, or anything else that is important but not prestigious. Idk man, fuck off with that shit. You'll pick up trash and you'll like it until you understand why picking up trash isn't anyone's job but your own. I hate that attitude. If helping and doing activism was always fun and visible and impressive, everyone you know would already be doing it.

Ok, yes, valid points.

But also, you have to trick most of them into the boring and unpleasant bits of socialism, which is... most of it, tbh. You have to make them like it, because most of them won't, not when they are starting, not when they are young and full of ambition and ego. And they won't like it later either, when it proves to have moved the needle only a very little bit, after very much work. And you don't have the luxury of going ”well, go away if you hate this” because more of them then you expect will indeed walk away.

How do you do that? I don't know. Building communities is hard. Sticks and carrots? Listening to people and giving them what then need, but not what they asked for? Making it at least sometimes fun, for everyone involved?

And yes, it is exhausting.

Part of what frustrated me about this specific situation is that the trash pickup is also designed explicitly to appeal to people who weren't comfy knocking doors and to people who missed the opportunity to knock doors. We have a lot of people interested in helping RIGHT NOW and it's important to give them a doable, useful project right away.

There are lots of things we could be doing, but in terms of new projects RIGHT after a tough season with a lot of work, we needed something that we could quickly put together and enact.

Plus, the trash pickup is between two other more cerebral planning-type evets. Our goal is to have an event every single week, whether that's a general meeting or a canvass or a trash pickup. But I know locally that people want something to DO other than show up at a protest, or a teach-in, or a book club. So trash pickup is low-hanging fruit.

Plus it's fun! And a time to plan and talk and listen. It's not as if I just gave the org this single event and then got pissed at someone new for not liking. The person in question wants to become part of the steering committee, and that attitude just aint it imo.

my thought process while washing up this evening

  • Arcane is a really beautiful show
  • however it seems to be taking a 'there are very fine people on both sides' approach to class conflict which obscures the core issues
  • do I really expect anything more from a mainstream production. not everything can be The Silt Verses
  • The Silt Verses would kick ass in this animation style though
  • this studio COULD do the crab nuke

I have OCD and with that comes quasi-hallucinations, and I grew up watching a ton of horror films so some of the worst of mine are the standard white skin/black hair demon girl type shit.

However, because a lot of them are based on horror film I have found comfort in doing things that “go against” horror films and being like “see? This could never happen.”

(It’s irrational. I know that. But shut up. This is how I cope.)

For example: I started hearing garbled whispering from beneath my table, so I started playing the muppets sound track. Because they would never play Movin’ Right Along when the protagonist is about to get attacked. That won’t happen. Disney, who owns the muppets, wouldn’t give them the rights.

And it fucking worked.

Just watched the banned Moon Girl episode.

>the episode addresses the topic of trans kids in sports >the entire episode is about how bigots will always move the goalpost, and playing by their rules is pointless >the solution is not to play their game and break the rules >it also states that trans people should never feel like a burden >the character Brooklyn is explicitly stated to be trans >there is also an explicitly nonbinary character >multiple mentions of pride and depictions of pride flags, trans flags and progress flags

I'm not at all surprised this didn't get past the censors but I'm so mad that it didn't, because this could've been something really special, and the fact it was canned after being fully finished is downright painful. This episode was wonderful and I'm grateful to all the people who worked on it, and angry that their hard work was wasted. Disney did not deserve you.

Rebuild with Me: A Journey from Destruction 💥 to Hope

🚨 Urgent Help Needed! 🚨

Hello everyone, I’m Osama Basil, a web developer from Gaza. The ongoing war hasn’t just destroyed my officeit has shattered my livelihood and crushed my dreams, leaving my family in an extremely difficult situation. Yet, despite these overwhelming challenges, I refuse to surrender and remain fiercely determined to push forward.

💡 Why I Need Your Help

I’m aiming to raise €15,000 to rebuild my office, install a solar energy system, and secure stable internet access—which are crucial for my work as a freelance web developer, since there has been no electricity in Gaza for over a YEAR!!—and pursue a master’s degree.

This support will allow me to continue working, meet my essential needs, and provide for my family in the face of the overwhelming cost of living in Gaza, where the closure of crossings and severe shortages of goods have made survival even more difficult. With this help, we can begin to rebuild our lives and regain a sense of stability during these incredibly challenging times.

Every donation, no matter how small, means the world to us. I’ve shared more details in the campaign link below. Your kindness will truly make a difference.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Together, we can turn this challenge into hope ✨❤️
