not to be insane on main but s1 dean is like. he’s like “kids are vulnerable to things adults say. i know this because i was a kid once, so i will treat every child i meet carefully and paternally, i will give them the kind of care i never got” while at the same time being like “yes no kid deserves the shit i went through except me who absolutely deserved it this is a normal way of thinking i don’t need therapy” :/

Cue Dean reaching for a beer and making a sarcastic comment to avoid actually crying from how touched he is at what Jack just said.

I feel like this was the point where Dean realized that Jack truly considers him one of his dads. Like yeah Dean calls Jack their kid, and he knows the boys kind of adopted Jack as their son, but after all of the threats and horrible things Dean has said and done to Jack, I felt like Dean saw a very one-sided picture of their relationship (shocker). He knew Jack was scared of him, he knew Jack cared about him, but he didn’t know Jack loved him like a son loves a father. But in this moment, Dean heard Jack say: when I die I will miss being with you and spending time with you like we did today. I will miss you. And I think that was so important for Dean to hear and know.
