Work published this week in Trends in Plant Sciences seeks to determine whether plants can be used to detect human decomposition. Supported by the DARPA Advanced Plant Technologies program, the University of Tennessee-spearheaded study investigates how "cadaver decomposition islands," the zone immediately surrounding humans remains, may affect nutrient concentrations in soil, and how those changes in turn affect nearby plants. Researchers hope that this tool will enable forensic teams in search of missing persons to use remote sensing technologies to more rapidly identify the location of human remains.

Alaska National Guard soldiers recently airlifted “Bus 142” from where it had sat for decades. The bus, made famous by the book and film “Into the Wild,” was considered a public safety concern. Went off trail with a couple of my buds a couple weeks ago. Never got to post this up.
Went on a late night hike with a couple of my good friends last night.
We walk on trail/dried up creek and just joked around. On the trail on of my pals was an inch away from a freaken possum and I was like "FUCK DUDE THAT'S A MOTHER FUCKER!" and shined the light on that bitch. He was drooling like crazy and we just backed off...
After the trail we went to Denny's at 0000 and ate unlimted pancakes (really just 5) and watched Generation Kill the rest of the night until we knocked out.
We were supposed to go hiking at 0500 but when we woke up, I just said we'll go at 0700...then when that came around, we all said fuck it and watched another episode of Generation Kill.
Fun sleep over.
Today's adventure! #Nature #Adventure
