California National Guardsmen, the Fresno Fire Department, and Fresno County Emergency Medical Services wait for the arrival of a 40th Combat Action Brigade's CH-47 Chinook helicopter carrying evacuees from the Creek Fire last night on the 1106 Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group's flight line outside of Fresno, California. The California Military Department evacuated over 200 people along the Mammoth Pool Reservoir when the Creek fire exploded in size.
The California National Guard is currently involved with a major rescue tonight in the Central Valley. Right now, both a Chinook or CH-47 and a Blackhawk helicopter are airlifting individuals trapped by the Creek Fire. The first 50-60 evacuees, some with injuries, have been brought to the Cal Guard army facilities at the Fresno Airport where emergency response, fire and medical elements from the 144th Fighter Wing are on hand to assist. Both rotary wing aircraft are returning to the fire site to evacuate more people immediately.
