#tragic backstories can do great things for a villain#but they gotta be handled right#see: azula from atla#tragic but the show never once forgets the evil shit she does and the kind of person she is now#they CAN be used a stepping stone to a redemption plot by humanising the villain#but it's gotta be the right kind of villain and it's gotta be done really carefully and RESPECTFULLY TO THEIR ROLE#AS A VILLAIN#if you've done your job right they should have been intimidating as fuck and your audience should have been either hating or fearing them#at least a little#so if you suddenly try to play the ~poor misunderstood lamb~ card it's gonna fall flat AND potentially ruin the villain you DID have (via)
You see these girls? These are some of the most badass, complex characters in the history of animation. From the bamf we hail as Korra, to the tragically twisted Azula, these girls are not to be messed with. They have faced enemies, espionage, and mastered their fighting techniques, and the oldest of them is only seventeen. Thank you Mike and Bryan, for creating fantastic female characters and role models.
you’re bending on my neck la la laaaa
So this happened
