The 11th Doctor having a Time Lord Victorious moment
50% of doctor who is "the humans are the real monsters and 50% of it is "the monsters with lasers are the real monsters" and you literally never know which one you're gonna get until you get it!
#imo more like 49.5% + 49.5% bc a very important 1% is 'the literal protagonist & titular character of the entire show is the real monster'

Holds casual Dr who fans by the shoulders. Hey did you know that the doctor isn’t a usually a good person with other people’s interests at heart? Did you know that? Did you know they do terrible things for that they believe to be the greater good all the time? That they aren’t a good person?????
I think roads are pointing to Susan atm but I want Ruby to be an artificial “perfect companion” a la beta rose sooooo bad…the very deliberate rehashing of other companion’s intros especially Rose’s…Russell’s description of her as fundamentally just a “classic companion” is so interesting because who sets out to make a generic character?
So Clara was just Steven going “ok Russell’s original idea was cool, but it feels more like a Master thing to me”. That’s awesome. This is why we share story ideas with our friends even when we don’t do them.
This would have been bananas with Rose. What are the implications? How dark do you get? She doesn’t have a dad because family ties are a problem? Would it have meant Ten’s pull towards having Rose be in the other world because he thought he’d screwed up her life and now here was a life ready for her that no Doctor had interfered with - what it should have been? That Rose forces her way back because that’s what the perfect companion would do but he doesn’t actually want that any more. Really hammering home that Ten’s god complex is the root of all the problems.
That would have been so cool. Definitely not a thing to reintroduce the show with, but oh I do want to see the show in the universe where this happened though.
Thinking about Older Amy again. She waited 50 years for the Doctor, between the 14 years in the Eleventh Hour, and the 36 years in her episode.
And then he kills her about it.
Which! Y'know! I think this tells us a lot about what he would have done to get child Amelia back if he'd had the opportunity.
He's always blase about humans' timelines when he gets his hands on them. And he's especially willing to tinker around in Amy's life. Older Amy and the Ganger Amy both, for all intents and purposes, die at his hands.
Fucked up little guy.
this is probably an unpopular opinion but I think interpreting the doctor as passively evil is an interesting character experiment. like, by human standards they’re pretty much an immortal, ancient, godlike entity. they travel all of time and space, saving or destroying entire civilizations on a whim. they travel with humans because they’re obsessed, almost addicted, to human mortality and naivety. sure, they claim to love their companions, but involvement in their lives almost always ends in misery, and then it’s onto the next. imagine the TARDIS filled with abandoned bedrooms, clothes on the floor, beds unmade, toothpaste in the sink. their things frozen in time, dust-covered and tomblike. and the doctor is drifting through space, surrounded by evidence of all the lives they’ve ruined. anyway, if anyone has evil doctor fic recommendations pls drop them below.
“time lords are friends with each other. anything else is cradle snatching.” she had a point.
YOU FUCKING GET ITTTTT
yes this but also i feel it has to do with infantalization of people with autism/adhd or who show those symptoms

Reading the newly-published Amy’s Choice original script, and!!! The Doctor's arc!!! I understand cutting back on it to better focus on the titular Choice of Amy, but the way the script uses the Doctor's self-hatred to really explore his feelings towards the Ponds and their relationship does feel balanced here, I wish more of it was left in!
As someone who loves the angle of the Doctor yearning to be worshiped and hating himself for it, I might have ulterior motive to wish this scene wasn't cut:
But really, it's the way it shows the Doctor is slowly unravelling as his relationship with Amy and Rory is picked apart — one thing I'm not sure the episode fully got across is that the Dream Lord is picking on the Doctor first and foremost, and picking on the Ponds because it upsets the Doctor to know that he's hurting them.
If only each episode just got a full hour runtime honestly!
The next screenshot is good. “You’re my friends.” Of course! They both are! Of course he's insecure — of course he wonders, in Amy's grown-up married life, where the imaginary friend fits in. (After all, Martha and Donna got married promptly after leaving, and Rose kind of ended up the same.)
But now that he's no longer insecure about their closeness excluding him, he's no longer so confident the TARDIS is real — a mirror to the way Rory no longer cares once he knows Amy would rather die than be without him.
This next scene is partially in the episode, but as much as I like the Doctor ignoring the Dream Lord, the Doctor's “Because they never see me again doesn’t mean I never see them” is everything for his Pond family vibes here — featuring inner turmoil. He does inevitably hurt his companions, but he always loves them, too.
In the frozen TARDIS, they're actually dying, their organs and brains are shutting down, so the Doctor forces them to keep moving and repeat after him to keep them alive and he shouts how he loves them, because that's what matters to him, they are all that matter to him:
Which makes Rory's inevitable demise in the next story so much harder! Honestly, I already been disappointed about the Hungry Earth deleted scene on YouTube where the Doctor is talking to Amy about how much he likes Rory, but hey, I see the love between these three in Season 5, and I love that we have so many scripts to affirm it.
If only each episode just got a full hour runtime so all this didn't have to be cut!!!
The script library, if anyone hasn't seen it. It used to mostly have recent stuff, but now it has a whole lot more! (Don't go there looking for Season 7 or 8 though.)
This is gonna sound like a hot take but the Doctor and Leonardo di caprio have kind of the same qualifications for companions/girlfriends except the Doctor gets rid of them in much more serious ways.
