Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and happy book birthday to me!

In the Anderson family, Kate is the "good daughter." In the Barrett family, Josiah is the "good son." With their younger siblings causing their parents such heartbreak, the last thing either of them wants to do is let everyone down. And if that means keeping secrets, they will. After all, the whole church - the whole town - is watching. As the years pass, Kate and Josiah become closer, and the secrets become heavier. Will it all eventually tear them apart?

Go HERE to download.

This one is part two of my Front Row Series. I think you can read them separately, but if you want to start with the first book:

What Hindered Love Former foster kid Chloe Wren had never been to church a day in her life until she stepped through the door of Community Fellowship at the age of eighteen. She quickly becomes entangled in the complex world of a pastor's family through her relationship with Micah Barrett, the troubled younger son of the church's pastor. Six years later, her relationship with both Micah and the church have been broken seemingly beyond repair. Yet the son she and Micah share has a childlike faith that just might be the key to redemption for them all. *ie the CS fanfic I turned into an original novel*

The first book is only $3.99, which means you’d get the whole series for five bucks, which is a pretty sweet deal!

I can’t believe it’s been a year since The One Who Sees Me was released! To celebrate, the Kindle version is going on sale Thanksgiving weekend for only 99 cents! The sale doesn’t start until Thanksgiving day, but it’s still a steal for full price at only $4.99. You can get it HERE.

You can also get get my first book, What Hindered Love, HERE for only $3.99 on Kindle. You can also get both in paperback if you like - it would make a great Christmas gift!

And signal boosts are always appreciated!

What are they about, you ask? Well, they are romances, for starters. Here are the book blurbs for each:

People ask me if they have to be read in order, and though I thought I wrote them so they could be read independently, my readers have given mixed opinions on that. So maybe ask some in the fandom who have read both.

This is a new story set in the universe of my original novels. **SPOILERS** if you haven’t read The One Who Sees Me yet.

Summary: Josiah Barrett got used to getting up early when he was fourteen years old. Reluctantly, his mother would remind him. Lighport High School didn’t have a swimming pool, so the swim team had to practice at the college. Before school. At 6 am. It was brutal, and looking back, his mom bore the brunt of his teenage attitude about it.  But now, a decade later, his body was conditioned to early mornings. It was why he was enjoying this beautiful sight the morning after his wedding.

Rated: M for steamy stuff

Words: Just a ficlet at a little over 600 words

If you want to be tagged for my original stuff, just let me know, and I’ll be happy to add you!

Josiah Barrett got used to getting up early when he was fourteen years old.

It was why Pete at The Daymark paid him to open up the diner and start the griddle in the mornings. It was why he met his Dad as the sun came up on Sunday mornings to open up the church for services. He was a rarity - a morning person.

It was why he was enjoying this beautiful sight the morning after his wedding. Kate was still asleep, clutching one pillow to her chest while another was beneath her head. Her fine, strawberry blonde hair was probably what she would call “a mess,” but to him it simply looked ethereal. Little wisps framed her face, and strands fell across her shoulder. She had started off the night cuddled against his chest, but that hadn’t lasted long. She’d wrinkled up her nose, told him he was as hot as a furnace, and wriggled away from him. Then he’d teased her as she’d gathered up pillows and pulled up the comforter. He’d rolled over to face her, and they’d talked and laughed until they fell asleep, never bothering to get dressed.

Front Row Series Character Mood Boards: Josiah Barrett

We better be careful, or we’ll end up falling off the pier. The thought made Kate giggle.

“What?” he asked.

“I was just thinking that we better be careful. It’s way too cold for a swim.”

“Are you sure?” he teased, then lurched forward like he was going to toss her into the water. She yelped, and tightened her arms around his neck. Of course, he held onto her just fine.

“Josiah Barrett!” she admonished as he laughed harder. She ran her hands up his neck and buried her fingers in his hair. “You know, for someone who doesn’t like being called Superman, you sure do act like him at times.”

“I guess you bring out the hero in me.”

Kate grew serious as she cupped his face in her hands. “But you know you don’t have to be, right? All I need you to be is Josiah. Just Josiah.”

She knew he believed her by the tender way he kissed her, the sun setting all around them.

The One Who Sees Me - Melanie Tillman

The second book in the Front Row series by @searchingwardrobes tells the story of Kate and Josiah’s childhood-friends-to-lovers romance and also addresses the lasting trauma of sexual assault.

I loved this book for all the same reasons I loved the first one: the characters are real, believable, and relatable; the serious issues are handled well; the Christian faith is incorporated in a way that is not preachy but still has a strong presence; and the romance makes me melt!

(And I cannot get over how gosh darn pretty that cover is, it’s absolutely gorgeous!!)

Other books in this series: What Hindered Love

This was so wonderful - thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

First of all, I know it seems like I have abandoned my fanfic writing, but I promise you, that isn’t true. I was actually working on I Promise to Kiss You the other night, and I am SO close to posting that final chapter! BUT, I must confess that Josiah and Kate from my book The One Who Sees Me have just been invading my muse. Tuesday night, this story just poured out of me.

I talked about this on my Facebook Live, but one part of Josiah’s personality that was really important to me was that he is safe. A man being safe is almost a bad word in rom-coms and romance novels, but it shouldn’t be. Men should absolutely be safe. Women should feel safe in their arms, safe sharing their hearts, safe enough to completely be themselves. So here is a story told from Josiah’s point of view in which he ponders how important it is to him that his wife feel safe. Oh, and some fluffy marital bliss and domesticity.

Rated: M for a married couple being open and free about sex, I guess, just to be safe, but it’s only discussed, not portrayed

Words: 1,300 and some change

Oh, and you can get a copy of The One Who Sees Me here , if you’re interested.

Josiah Barrett was distracted. Not because he didn’t want to hear his wife tell him about her day. On the contrary, he looked forward to reconnecting over dinner. Or reconnecting as much as a one year old flinging peas on the floor allowed. He honestly didn’t understand men who complained about their wives always wanting to talk. There was no one he enjoyed having a conversation with more than Kate. It had always been that way.

No, he was distracted because his head was full of plans for Valentine’s Day. A few months ago, he and Kate had purchased a “rekindle the romance kit” recommended in a couple’s devotional they were reading together. Not that he felt in the least that the spark was gone. Kate turned him on just walking into the room at times. It was just that ever since Haley was born, they found they had to be more intentional when it came to their relationship. Hence scheduled date nights, the couple’s devotional . . .

And the romance “kit.”

The rule of the kit was simple - open an envelope and follow the instructions to create a romantic moment with your spouse. No excuses, no skipping cards, no matter how awkward it made you feel. The pink cards were for the husband to do for his wife while the red cards were for the wife to do for her husband. They usually took turns planning their dates using the cards, but for Valentine’s Day, they had both opened one. That’s what had Josiah so distracted.

As you all probably know by now (since I have been plugging it constantly, haha!), I’m having an online book launch Monday, January 18th, at 7 pm EST on Facebook Live. One of the things I’ll be doing is drawing winners for 4 different giveaways. The final one is a CD and t-shirt from my friend Catherine Mullins. Her worship music is amazing - go check her out on YouTube, Spotify, and iTunes! I’m blessed that she leads music at my church when she isn’t traveling. (Her sister-in-law also leads worship at our church, and she is just as talented, so - yeah, I’m spoiled with great music every Sunday! Even though right now it’s online church.)

Anyway, to enter this giveaway, answer this question in the notes or in a reblog: Is there a song that has gotten you through a tough time in your life? If so, what was it?

Catherine’s songs “Hero” and “Never Lost” were featured in my first book, What Hindered Love. Though I didn’t use her lyrics in The One Who Sees Me, her song “Broken Things” inspired me as I wrote Kate’s story. You can listen to it here: https://searchingwardrobes.tumblr.com/post/617644790050439168/battling-anxiety-day-41-i-see-broken-you-see

The third prize I’m giving away during my online book launch is very special to me. This pendant plays a part in the book The One Who Sees Me, for one. Also, my sister gave me a similar pendant a few years ago. She had no idea how much I needed to hear it’s message at the time. Whenever I felt anxious, I would grab hold of it and rub my thumb over it. As I did, I would remind myself of Aslan’s words to Lucy, and know that Jesus says the same words over me. Like Aslan was with Lucy all along, so Jesus never leaves or forsakes me. For awhile, I wore it every single day! Even now, I wear it when I need a boost of courage. I’ll definitely be wearing it this coming Monday for my Facebook Live! I’ll be sharing some things that influenced this book, and some of it is very personal. There will be fun things too, though, like live drawings for all these giveaways!

To get entries for this pendant, I thought it would be fun to learn a little more about everyone. So in a note or a reblog, answer this question:

Have you ever gotten a gift that encouraged you at just the right time? What was it? Who was it from? Answering will get you two entries for this giveaway!

And I hope to see some of you on Monday, January 18th, 7 pm EST for my online book launch on Facebook!

Oh, and you can get my book, The One Who Sees Me, on Amazon if you want to find out what this necklace means to Kate!

Sorry, this isn’t CS - this is Josiah and Kate from my latest book The One Who Sees Me. I was inspired to write this after going to my husband to wallow in some self-pity this morning. He was awesome, and it is just one of the things I love about being married to him. So anyway, here’s about 900 words of nauseating domesticity and kissing between Josiah and Kate. Oh, and that’s not a spoiler because you find out they are married in the first book, What Hindered Love.

Rated G because married couples share a lot cuddled up in bed together, not just sex (sorry if the pics above were misleading!)

Tagging some who might be interested or will at least humor me when it comes to my babies from Lightport, Massachusetts: @snowbellewells @teamhook @xhookswenchx @kmomof4 @hookedonapirate @ilovemesomekillianjones @reynoldsreads @whimsicallyenchantedrose @welllpthisishappening @wellhellotragic @optomisticgirl @spartanguard @ekr032-blog-blog @jrob64 @ultraluckycatnd @superchocovian @bethacaciakay @distant-rose@klynn-stormz @carpedzem @cheerynoir

“I’m a complete failure.”

Kate knew she sounded overly dramatic as she collapsed onto the bed beside her husband, but she didn’t care. She was in a mood for self-pity, and if she couldn’t wallow in that at home, where could she?

Josiah reached down and tenderly brushed at strands of hair that had fallen out of her messy bun. “That’s not true, and you know it. Where’s this coming from?”

Kate sighed as she rolled towards him and curled up against his chest. “I feel like I’m begging people to come to my senior show. No one cares. I might as well accept it.”

“I care. Your parents and your sister care. We’re all going to be there.”

“You don’t count.”

He chuckled, “Thanks a lot.”

“I love you, you know I do, but you have to support me. Same with Hannah and Mom and Dad.”

“I know some wives, daughters, and sisters who would disagree with you.”

His hands were in her hair now, even though it was greasy and tangled and falling out of the bun she had hastily twisted atop her head. She wrapped her arms around his bicep and pressed her lips to his collarbone.

“Yeah, I’m lucky, I get it, but you’re kind of missing the point.”

“If this is back to you being a complete failure, I refuse to agree.”

Kate pushed out a frustrated breath. “I told everyone at the diner and at church about my senior show, and every single person acted like they’d rather get a root canal.”

“They said that? In those exact words?”

Kate twisted her head up to scowl at him. “Okay, no, but they very reluctantly said something like I’ll do my best, which everyone knows is the world’s nicest way of turning someone down.”

She expected Josiah to argue that point, but instead he pulled her closer against his chest and pressed a kiss to her messy hair. When he remained silent, her tongue got looser.

“I put my heart and soul into this show. You know the raw emotions I poured into those photographs.”

“So you feel like it isn’t just a rejection of your art, but of you personally.”

Kate blinked back tears as she straightened up to a sitting position. “Yeah, exactly. I guess I should have stuck to trendy stuff everyone else was doing - rainy window panes, attractive models on train tracks -”

“Adorable toddlers in fields of flowers?” Josiah added with a teasing laugh.

“Exactly. No one wants to come see an exhibit called Broken Things. What was I

thinking?”

“You were thinking there were people out there who could relate, people who would be touched by photos like that. I’m so proud of you for taking that risk.”

She collapsed against his chest again, and his arms tightened around her, his lips ghosting across her temple.

“What difference does it make if no one sees it? Outside of my family. Oh God, I’m the biggest loser out there.”

“I understand how you feel,” he sympathized, rubbing her arms gently, “people can tell you all day that you create for the joy of it, but you long to share it.”

The tears were coming ugly now; streaming down her face, reddening her eyes, and wetting her nose. She wiped them away, trying to get herself under control.

“I’m sorry.”

“Hey,” he admonished gently, “sorry for what? Your emotions? Never apologize for that. I’m validating everything you’re feeling, but I also want you to be encouraged. Ally told me she couldn’t wait to see your show.”

“She did?”

“Yes, and Mom called yesterday to confirm the time.”

“I didn’t know that,” she whispered.

She stayed in the circle of his arms for several moments, letting his words sink in. She was still terrified of standing in front of her photographs, alone, with only her family trickling in. Pathetic. On the other hand, maybe Josiah was right, maybe more people cared than she thought. She let out a long, shuddering breath, then pulled away from him.

“Thanks. For listening.”

“My pleasure,” he told her with that smile that still made her stomach flip. He pulled her closer and pressed a lingering kiss to her lips. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered against her skin when he pulled away.

She rolled her eyes. “With greasy, messy hair, no makeup, and no shower?”

“I like your hair like this,” he said, touching it again. “You should wear it like this more often.”

Kate grimaced. “I wore it like this Christmas morning, and when I saw Mom’s pictures, I was mortified. A bun makes my nose look huge!”

Of course, she was always self conscious about her nose, bun or not.

Josiah’s eyes sparkled as he leaned in and rubbed his nose against hers. “You have the most beautiful face I’ve ever seen.”

Kate melted and reached up to cup his face in her hands. “When you say it like that, I believe it. I guess I’m just down on myself today.”

“We’re all allowed to feel that way sometimes,” he said, turning his face to press his lips to her palm. “I just want you to have hope. The show is still a week away.”

She sighed and dropped her forehead to his. “You’re right. I love you.”

He kissed her long and slow, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. “I love you, too.”

I’m really excited about this second giveaway that I’m doing on my Facebook live next Monday, January 18th, at 7 pm EST. My good friend Kate (no, I didn’t name Kate Anderson in my book after her, lol) makes these amazing leather bracelets, and she’s made a custom one just for my giveaway. My husband got me two of their bracelets for mother’s day a couple of years ago, and I wear them all the time. Kate and her family just also happen to be some of the sweetest, most genuine people I know, so I’m also thrilled to introduce you all to them.

The main way you can enter this particular giveaway is to go to Amazon and leave a review of my book, The One Who Sees Me. That will give you TEN entries for a bracelet. If you haven’t read my book yet, reblogging this post will get you an entry as well. PLUS I’ll give you another entry if you just visit my friend Kate’s pages below:

*Their leather bracelet company Elliecomb Market Co on Facebook or Etsy

* Their YouTube Channel THE HAYES FAMILY- their videos about how they adopted their eldest daughter will have you in tears!

Just let me know you visited their pages, and I will give you another entry for a bracelet. You don’t have to buy anything or even follow them, just check them out. Because I adore them!

Thank you all for your amazing support! This fandom continues to blow me away with how we support one another.
