CS Fic Rec Monday: Fics for a Wintry Day

This week, rather than doing several separate fic rec entries, I thought I would highlight a few snowy day favorites, both old and new. I love when it gets colder and the snow falls, and it really does begin to look like Christmas outside. It makes me want to cozy up with a few good fics and a cup of coffee even more than I usually do! If you feel the same, I hope you will enjoy revisiting some of these, or discovering them for the first time. 

“Since We’ve No Place to Go” by: @laschatzi 

(the Author’s Summary: After a car accident in the middle of nowhere of rural Maine (where she really shouldn’t have ended up two days before Christmas), Emma Swan almost freezes to death, but is rescued by a three-legged dog named Smee and his grumpy master Killian Jones who can’t seem to get rid of her soon enough to have his self-chosen hermitage back. Alas, the weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful…)

“Merry not Christmas” by: @oubliette14 

(the Author’s Summary: Killian Jones has spent the last five years avoiding everything to do with Christmas; a veritable Grinch. Though perhaps Ebenezer Scrooge is more fitting; he’s not out to ruin Christmas, he simply prefers to pretend that it doesn’t exist. So what happens when he takes a tumble on the mountainside and is stuck for the holiday, cooped up in a small cabin with his saviour, Emma Swan?)

“You Are My Shelter” by: @justanother-unluckysoul​ 

(the Author’s Summary: An unexpected blizzard hits while Emma and Killian are enjoying a quiet vacation in their forest cabin, forcing them to shelter in place until it passes. The temporary isolation probably wouldn’t have been so bad if Killian hadn’t also gotten injured.)

“Decking the Halls and Slippery Falls” by: @hollyethecurious​ 

(the Author’s Summary: Based on the prompt: I just wanted to put Christmas lights up but I ended up falling off the ladder and crashing into you while you were delivering a package to my door but oh god you’re hot. Also utilizes the snowed in trope to great effect)

“Start of Time” by: @searchingwardrobes​ 

(the Author’s Summary: Summary: Killian and his son are driving through a bad snow storm when they find a disoriented woman walking down the road. The question is, how can they help her get home when she has no idea who she is?)

“Deck the Halls” by: @the-captains-ayebrows​ 

(This one doesn’t have a summary on it, but it’s a teachers enemies-to-friends-lovers situation; Emma and Killian are warring educators, both trying to win a school wide Christmas decor contest.  It’s genuinely funny and sweet and totally priceless!)

“To Keep it all the Year” by: @profdanglaisstuff​

(the Author’s Summary: Killian Jones is a broken man, betrayed by everyone and everything he thought he could believe in. He’s all but given up on life until a fateful meeting with bartender Emma Swan and her son Henry gives him a reason to live again, and a chance to redeem his past.)

CS Fic Rec Monday: “Start of Time” by: @searchingwardrobes

I love this story so much - I can’t believe I haven’t already given it a separate Monday recommendation. Originally written as a birthday gift for @teamhook, this fic has just wormed its way into my heart completely as it has grown and continued. We have Emma as a famous singer who has been in a car wreck and forgotten who she is, what she does, and even where she’s from. A kind widower (Killian, of course! ;) finds her and takes her in as she is recuperating… and things go on from there. I don’t want to spoil all the angst, the slow burn, the sweetness of Emma and Killian with a young Henry and Alice, and all the other treats within this story - just go and check it out!!  (Also, if you’re someone who waits until stories are finished to read, there’s just one more chapter to come. So you can enjoy a tiny bit of the suspense, but mostly just fulfillment as you read “Start of Time” by: @searchingwardrobes​!!!

After all, nobody likes to go to a wedding alone. Time for some CS AU fake dating.

Warm Nights and Firelight by @oubliette14​: When in the wake of a messy breakup Emma makes the impulsive decision to return home to her parent’s ranch in the Rockies, she certainly doesn’t expect to find a strange Irish guy living in what was once her apartment over the garage, and she definitely doesn’t imagine that the home she couldn’t wait to be rid of five long years ago would be the very place her heart begins to heal.

If Looks Could Kill by @wellhellotragic​: Emma Swan is a dedicated FBI agent getting over a bad breakup. The Reason by @xemmaloveskillianx​: The three of them share a laugh before they all look to Emma. She has yet to comment on the new addition because she isn’t sure what to say. She usually doesn’t like change, they have a good thing going there, just the four of them. Plus, they all know him and she doesn’t, but she trusts their judgement, and she’s sure any brother of Liam can’t be all that bad.So, with a shrug and a smile she says, “Welcome to Storybrooke, Killian Jones.

The Wife by @ineffablecolors​: No one knows all that Emma has been through and certainly no one knows all that Killian has been through and being husband and wife doesn’t make them any less unknown to each other. And really, how can you help someone heal when you don’t even know how hurt they are?

Beauty in the Aftermath by @high-seas-swan​: Confronted with the sudden appearance of her birth parents, Emma, in a moment of panic, flees. She flees the diner, Storybrooke, the country. She finds herself a day later in the Dublin, Ireland Airport terminal wondering what the hell she has gotten herself into. With some fear, a little determination and a considerable amount of faking it along the way, she sets off on a trip she never planned on taking but needed more than she ever knew. She finds herself, she finds a Brit adrift on his own journey and finds out what home really means.

Playing the Part by @shireness-says​: As a stage manager who’s clawed her way up from the bottom, Emma Swan can handle just about anything thrown her way. But does that include handsome lead actor Killian Jones? A CS Broadway AU.

Love, Kindness, and Other Useless Things by @joneskillian​: CS AU, set in 1815. Lord Killian Jones is haunted by the demons of his past which makes him nowhere near the man he once was, so he can’t be the father he wants to be. And above all, he believes he is undeserving of love. Perhaps with Emma that is all about to change. But falling in love is never easy, that’s just how it is.

CS Fic Rec Monday

I think we need fic recs more than ever, am I right? This one is an all time favorite of mine. I read it early on when I first joined the fandom, and I have re-read it multiple times. It was written in 2014, before Neal died and back when all our ships were less complicated. It’s now canon divergent, but it was originally a future fic. I love this take on Henry’s family dynamics, and I am a sucker for fairy tale world meets the real world in fics. The humor and family fluff abound!

Summary: In which Henry attempts to explain his crazy family to his girlfriend. Oh, and she doesn’t know they are fairy tale characters.

Rating: T (according to ff.net rating system)

Ocean Blue by @wellhellotragic​

Summary: There were three things certain in Killian Jones’s life: 1) His brother was his idol. 2) He was helplessly in love with Emma Swan. 3) She absolutely didn’t love him back. She’d made that clear five years ago when he left the city. So when he was forced to return to Boston once more, to a place he swore he’d never go back to, Killian had never expected to see Emma Swan again, much less at Liam’s funeral. Losing his only brother was devastating. Learning what he had done was worse.

This fic kept me on the edge of my seat with twists I never saw coming. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop!
