I have just gotten in mctna clearly very late to the party. Thank you for all the beautiful gifs. ❤️❤️❤️🍑

I just wanted to know if you knew any meta posts or discussions about the characters out there I can delve into?

Yaaay, welcome, welcome, we are always happy (starved) for fresh blood in the fandom! \o/ 💙💙💙 Ahhh sdjfklsdflsfd thank you for paying attention to my gifs and calling them beautiful!! 🥰 *dances in a circle like an overexcited puppy*

Please beware: these are most likely not spoiler-free!

@godotismissingx So I remembered slash dug up more (don't ask me why I've got all these links saved in my gdocs) /o\

(loooong post underneath the cut)

ahhhhhhh just remembered some meta about Prince Uian/Yi Bang-seok too, by @fatalism-and-villainy here and here, and by @wayvmunstersofallthings here, which I'm very glad to see!! I really love this post by @staidwaters with bts pics of the actors that contemplates a possible friendship between Hwi & the little prince in an AU.

Aside from bodashiri's timeline, @avauntus also created a very impressive timeline for their own fic, which I'm sure can be very helpful for others too. And this meta by @convenientalias about Hwi having his whole squad vs. Seon-ho only having Sung-rok is def a must-read!

(anyway, as you can tell, this is a work in progress and I will likely add more stuff if I find it or it suddenly pings my brain haha)

okay, so here's some more that I missed:

(more underneath the cut)

so there's even more!!

I very highly recommend watching and reading this beautiful, intelligent essay in vid form + accompanying textual meta by @nubreed73 about the horrors and trauma of war and the different treatment of bodies in relation to social position and how both Hwi & Seon-ho were nothing but weapons in the end for the powers that be. Thoughtful, poignant and absolutely heart-wrenching distillation of mctna's overarching theme of the senselessness of war (and, to an extent, of politics too)!!

alright, so @godotismissingx & @sadviper asked for some good Nam Jeon meta analysis here, which wasn't easy to find since he's the most hated character in the fandom lol.

(as usual, please mind the spoilers)

happy to now add @godotismissingx 's liveblog to the list too! You can find it in the tag 'godot watches' (eps. 1-2) or 'godot watches stuff' (eps. 3-16).

@laireshi did a translation of the iconic line "your sword still feels affectionate" & research on the word jeong and @radialarch found another instance of jeong for further (devastating) analysis and comparison, both of which are good additions to fatallist's post (which you can find above in my first reblog of godot's ask).

also you can find amazing meta about hwi's and seon-ho's respective fighting styles and how it corresponds to their characterization here by @nubreed73!!!!

@nubreed73 has started a livetweet thread for their mctna rewatch which you can find here.

and here is a very entertaining presentation about why everyone should watch mctna by @whenas-in-silks.

@ everyone:

I really wanted to reply to every comment in the notes individually, but since I ran out of spoons I'll just say - A BIG, BIG THANK YOU to all of you for being part of this tiny fandom and shaping it, no matter how small you think your contributions may be; without every single one of you there wouldn't be an MCTNA fandom in the first place and I wouldn't have been able to make this compilation at all. You are very welcome and, again, thanks for being in the fandom with me!! 😊💙💙💙

Mr Plankton

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to the Woo Do Hwan squad :) I've been entirely OFF Tumblr on purpose since thursday not to get spoiled and i've been binging it in 2 nights, but it was worth it lol :)

I don't want to spoil it for anyone though so let me know when i can freely reblog and shout at you about my feels and thoughts be in + or - ? Because AAAHHH i have thoughts ... and the thoughts are thoughting ... a lot ... in a lot of ways ... HUGS to you all !!!

#mr plankton#mr. plankton#woo do hwan#woodohwanedandproud#mr. plankton is probably a huge hit or miss for most people#and i gotta admit that i've got mixed feelings about it#first off: i've always been peculiar when it comes to humor and even more so when it comes to het romance#eps 1-2 with the plot of a woman getting kidnapped by her toxic ex-bf (actually played straight and presented as smth. fun/crazy/quirky!!)#gave me so much visceral ick and reminded me too much of the sexism/how women get treated in the real world#that i had to put it down for a few days before mustering up the courage to continue watching#everyone's mileage may vary when it comes to this and it's great if you liked it but it really really really really wasn't for me#it's only around ep 4 when the found family stuff began that it started to get better and more bearable to watch#there was too much random and crazy stuff going on in general too and the humor didn't work for me at all for the most part#if woo do hwan wasn't in it i probably would have dropped this show after the first ep already lol#another problem is that while i do like hae-jo (after initially hating him with a passion) and jae-mi as individual characters#i don't like them when they are together as a couple#the acting is great and i can recognize and respect that both woo do hwan and lee yoo mi put a lot of effort into their scenes together#but the writing/romance just didn't work for me... maybe the initial ick was too strong but their relationship never felt balanced to me#the only times i liked them together was when eo heung was there too... i feel like he was able to balance them out#and i thought the bonding moments where hae-jo called eo heung hyung and eo heung took care of him were really sweet#would have really loved to see an ot3 ending but alas#the emotional beats often felt off to me and i didn't end up crying at all (though ofc i loved wdh's acting and the whump as always)#all in all this show fell flat for me - esp. when compared to It's Okay to Not Be Okay which i really loved#(i'll have you know that i do like het romance when it's written in a way i can get behind e.g. IOtNBO or my liberation notes etc.)#might still make one or two gifsets and i've got vague ideas for an ot3 fix-it fic#but no idea if i can overcome the squick long enough to actually write it#def not my fav wdh role but i appreciate that he took on the challenge of playing a character like hae-jo and actually making him likeable#tagged 💙✨#ty bb!#mr. plankton critical

So I watched Uprising (2024) on Netflix and it definitely has My Country: The New Age vibes. Same premise of slave and young noble besties who grew up together but ended up on opposing sides. It was fast paced and filled with fantastic swordfights, tragic but also unexpectedly funny with superb acting all around. It's also very um... look I'm not saying these movies are more than anything but friendship and brotherhood and betrayal of those two things but also why is there such tenderness in the interactions between our male leads?

Just LOOK at the way Jong-ryeo's fingers are touching Cheon-yeong's hand. You give me scenes like this:

And this:

AND THIS:

Ffs you have them tie each other's hands with a red cloth:

YOU GIVE ME THIS AND EXPECT ME NOT TO SHIP? I SHIP THEM OK??? Gang Dong-won and Park Jeong-min knocked it out of the park with the acting and also the fight choreo. Also shoutout to Jung Sung-il (who played the husband of the crazy villainess in The Glory) for his great cheekbones under all that facial hair and Japanese-ness. Also my girl Kim Shin-rok (best known for Ji-hwa in Beyond Evil) is also in here and she once again kicks ass.

Shipping aside it's a really solid movie with some amazing action sequences, a simple plot but with really gut-punching characters. Park Chan-wook had a hand in the script so you can expect some gore ala Tarantino. I enjoyed it a lot. No spoilers. Go watch it on Netflix.

sorry to be negative on the dash but..... y'all need to be nicer to fanfic writers. we all know interactions are decreasing, and even during the nine months i've been on here, i've noticed a decrease.

tell writers you like their works. comment on their works, reblog their works.

some of you act so entitled, and idk if you've noticed but you're literally making writers miserable. it makes me so sad to see my mutuals deactivate because the joy of writing has been taken away from them by ungrateful readers who are constantly demanding more, more, more, to the point where people are experiencing burnout and anxiety because they can't keep up with the constant unrealistic demands.

reminder that even though it takes you five minutes to read 1k words it might've taken the writer hours to get the words down, proofread, edit, and make the perfect fic layout.

some of you complain that there are no "good" fics anymore, yet you do nothing for the fandom, do nothing to support writers and just hide behind anon and blank blogs, complaining about every little thing till you've driven all writers off this site.

it's so tiring. please be kinder. we're all trying our best here.

if you still don’t think reblogs matter then look at this post. i didn’t tag this at all and it’s currently at 1.3k notes. because my mutuals and followers reblogged it. and then their mutuals and followers reblogged it. and so on.

the only reason this post reached so many people is because of reblogs. imagine if you did the same to fics.
