This wins the internet for 2024!! 😂😂
Brilliant 😂😂
This may make no fucking sense at all and may just be me rambling but I’m indigenous and I am ✨Projecting✨
Apologies to any one who follows me that isn’t a fan of stranger things but I’ve been thinking a lot about indigenous!Eddie lately. And I had a thought/short story idea thing about his hair. (Warning: includes mild mentions of generational trauma, and a quite soft hearted Eddie bc it may be out of character) (bonus: Wayne Munson is the best dad uncle around, and also a little soft)
I started thinking of an Eddie that liked metal already but started growing his hair out bc of an old picture in a photo album that his uncle Wayne once said that his mother/Eddie’s grandma had put together when Wayne was younger, that he found one day in middle school while rooting around the trailer looking for who knows what. The picture was of one of his great grandfathers as a boy. The boy in the picture was smiling, wearing his hair in two long braids that reached just below his chest, and had the words “grandpa- about 8 years old” scrawled underneath it in what looked like his uncle’s writing. The picture next to it was different, the picture was of the same boy but significantly older then. His hair cut neatly into a short style, the same as the rest of the children in the school picture below it.
This time, the words “the day grandpa graduated from the boarding school” was written below it. The picture of the young man and the school picture below both lacking anything akin to a smile like in the picture of him as a boy. When he asked his uncle why he seemed so upset even though he graduated, he got the simple response that the boy had loved his hair, and was upset he had to cut it for school and that he didn’t like his hair that way.
(Wayne didn’t believe that the full story was one a middle schooler should know yet, especially not when the full story was one only quietly talked about by the old man to his children shortly before his passing. His kids themselves had been spared the schools.)
Eddie decides that day to grow his hair out a bit naively, and in an act of rebellion, because his great grandfather couldn’t wear his hair long in school. Never thinking of the fact that his school may have been vastly different to the one his great grandfather attended, and that he wouldn’t be made to cut his hair no matter how much the school staff disliked it and thought it was lazy or unruly looking.
He begins perming his hair after growing it out to just below his shoulders to fit the hair metal aesthetic to avoid any passive aggressive (or downright aggressive) questions or comments about it that couldn’t be answered with an example of the hair of a member of a band he likes and how it was a big thing in metal and rock music. He still didn’t fully know the story behind the schools and the hair cutting thing but he knew a little more than he did about the belief of hair being special to a person of his race, and figured it would probably be best not to stir the pot on why he began wearing his hair long.
It’s only after the events of season 4 (because that one specific thing in the upside down didn’t happen) that after waking up alone in a room in the hospital after a small medically induced coma, cleared of all charges by the way, that Wayne pays his nephew a visit as soon as visiting hours open, and he finally learns more about the schools. It started with the full meaning of a person’s hair and what cutting it meant to them while his uncle helped him wash his own hair to get the grease out due to the wounds still hurting like a bitch when moving too much. (It had been a while since the nurses or what have you had done any sort of washing it.) He doesn’t let anyone know that he cried a little when finding out about meaning of a person’s hair from what his uncle told him, and how learning it while his uncle helped him was his own hair made him cry that night even more. He vows that night that he’d keep it long forever.
And it’s even later, after he’s cleared to leave the hospital, that the topic of his hair comes up in conversation with the rest of the party, he’s a little nervous obviously to tell them exactly why he’s insisted on letting it grow longer than typical even for metalheads, but tell them he does. And to his mild surprise, as he’s so used to people not liking it even at the mid length, not a one of them has anything close to judgement to say about it. However the younger menaces of their lovely little party have 100 questions about his hair which lead to more broad questions about his culture that he definitely couldn’t answer yet. Eventually after someone asked why if long hair was the main belief, that some tribes wore mohawks even though that wasn’t as common in his like he told them it wasn’t, that he resorts to completely overhauling the conversation to vague concepts of a new campaign he made up on the fly just to get them to stop with the questions. He completely missed the way the older members would hang onto every answer he knew, and roll their eyes at the multiple repeat questions while on the verge of throwing a pillow or something else at them themselves.
The day after the question-pocalypse he finally learns from Max, with some helpful instruction from Nancy, how to braid his own hair. He had tried a few times before, once it got long enough to do it, but failed miserably. Some of the kids start to make jokes about him trying to look like Max with his hair like that but get quickly shut down by Steve and Robin turning the tables back on them. After bragging about his new skills to Wayne, his uncle tells him it’d probably be better just to wear one braid in the back if he goes out in public, much to Eddie’s dismay- he has to go back and ask how to do just the one braid this time, which seems so much harder than the two. A couple days later a small assortment of hair ties finds their way into a compartment in his van, he knows how they got there, but he also knows that Wayne isn’t too big on recognition for small things, they prefer to just go about their business trusting that one another knows the little things are very much appreciated.
Idk where I was going with this so I guess that’s about it.
“Welcoming Winter” ~ Sansan kissy in the snow… XD
I am in DEEEEEP right now with this ship I cannot even handle myself. Wanted this out of my system desperately before finishing my Sansan Secret Santa July thing… I’m almost done sketching that one out and will need to add color.
I have a THING about drawing my ships in snow… ugh… I cannot stop drawing these two! I am really enjoying the Sansan community here on tumblr and all the great PRIMO fanfics out there! Send me recs people! I’ve read a lot, but I KNOW I haven’t read them all. I’m really enjoying modern day AU as well as alternate ending AU among others. Yay! XD
