i'm so glad goncharov happened when it did, right before prolific public use of AI. that was pure honest gaslighting straight from the heart. real human whimsicality and trickery thru blood sweat and tears. we were a family. and we all gonched, together. you cant replicate that with any machine.
We didn't win, but so long as at least one person took psychic damage it was all worth it.
On the one hand, Goncharov has been consistently robbed of awards, so it’s almost to be expected;
On the other, what better expression of the complex themes of masculinity presented by Goncharov than this magnificent leggy man
Have an electrician over today & he comes through from the kitchen like 'i was looking at that poster on your wall wondering how I hadn't heard of the movie so I googled it. What is the point. Is it just there to catch people out.' And I'm like, well,
Well,
we did it tumblr
SCHOLASTIC MAGAZINE???
Not only has Goncharov broken containment but it's now fully immortalized in print. Fantastic work everyone.
it’s wild to me how there is literally ZERO correlation between what a piece of media is like and what its fanworks are like. 2014 captain america fans were out there writing poetry and full-on academic papers inside of their fics. sonic the hedgehog and my little pony fandoms are both famous for drawing fetishes you’ve never even heard of. les miserables fans spent most of their energy on college aus. there is literally no consistency or observable pattern and it’s incredible
The reason Goncharov (1973) is such a hit is because it allows Tumblr to unironically participate in its national sport:
if this goncharov shit happened in 2013 you know there would be a gofundme to make it real and it would get one goncharillion dollars before the person behind it dropped off the face of the earth
My one contribution to the Goncharov Phenomena is, I’ve seen people comment on how Tumblr only managed to have a nuanced conversation about a piece of media when the piece of media doesn’t exist, but…
I can’t help but think. It just isn’t the same people.
The people who bother to make memes examining the complexity of Goncharov are the same people who enjoy examining the complexity of actual media, who have been here doing that forever, who already knew how to handle a subtle take.
It’s just that the people who would usually come crashing in and derail the whole thing aren’t saying anything, because, well, faking nuanced interpretation is fun for its own sake, but faking moral outrage isn’t.
I don’t think it’s so much that Tumblr finally learned how to handle a nuanced take, I think it’s more that the fakeness of Goncharov automatically filters out people who can’t ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Infinite monkeys with infinite typewriters will not, apparently, write Shakespeare. They will write a homoerotic 1973 mafia film by Martin Scorsese.
Favorite line from Goncharov?
scene where Hiker Mike goes "UHHHHHH FUCK IM GONNA GONCH" and he throws up all over the money. "I SHOULD NOT OF EATEN THOSE ROTTEN BERRYS". they play this Disney Channel Originals ass music over it. blowing chunks in all directions across da room. Pretty cool
that didn't happen
None of it happened. It's all made up. Play in my sandbox with me or go back to the swingset, but don't sit here and tell me my castle's wrong because it's not a perfect French fortress.
y'know, since everyone likes this goncharov thing so much, why dont we make it a reality?
ive got a team of 5 amateur film students, if you could all just donate to our kickstarter we- *gunshot*
Martin Scorsese probably thinks he’s having a stroke right now
“Bob…?”
“Yeah Marty?”
“How much coke did we do in 1972?”
“A fair amount, sure.”
“Did we accidently do another film during Mean Streets?”
“Marty, that is a long time ago.”
“Except Lynda Carter says she was in it.”
“Marty, please, don’t expect me to remember every set I’ve ever been on.”
“…Yeah, OK.”
