The NYT opinion page conservatives are old school conservatives, like in the strain of William Buckley, people who try to be intellectually rigorous, and you might respect that even if you completely utterly disagree with their premises. The major problem is that these conservatives have zero cred in what remains of the right. Because the new right is profoundly anti-intellectual, anti-evidence, anti-internal consistency, because to follow trump that’s what you have to do. So, rather than rail against the latest lame David Brooks sandwich anecdote or one of these irrelevant conservative dinosaurs spouting whataboutism because they have zero arguments left, just stop reading their opinions as anything representing the real right. Read them as the frustrated flailings of articulate, formerly respected intellectuals who have lost their political home. (Fortunately or not, our followers are probably pretty up to date with what the right is now.)
