I got all nervous ‘cause I’d keep mad secrets for you, bro. So I asked Ignacio, “Did the badass tell the stupid-fine writer chick to tell you to tell me, because I’m tight with Ant-Man, that he’s looking for him?”

i just saw a post saying that clint barton and scott lang are terrible fathers for “blindly following captain america” and joining the fight when they knew that they could get hurt/killed/arrested for it, and i’m just… no???

everyone seems to forget that no one on cap’s side went to that airport to fight tony stark. they went there to meet up, and then were stopped by tony’s team and had to fight their way out.

and they weren’t going there so they could be heroes on the run and hang out with cap, they went there because they were led to believe that a group of super assassins who bucky insists could wipe out an entire country on their own are about to be released on the world, and they needed to be stopped

clint and scott aren’t blindly following cap and trying to be big bad-ass heroes or break the law because they want to, they (and sam and bucky and wanda too!) consciously decide to join the fight because (1) they’re running out of time before zemo wakes the other winter soldiers, (2) there isn’t time to go through ross for this even if ross would believe them and let them go at all before arresting cap and bucky both, and (3) they know their help could make the difference between winning and losing.

they each consciously weigh the risks of being arrested or killed or hurt, and decide that even if that does happen, it’s worth it to keep the world safe for their kids. they join the fight because it’s the right thing to do, because their kids living their lives without a dad is better than them not living at all.

and neither of them make the choice without some regret! clint says he’s disappointing his kids because he knows he is, scott deflects with humor (”eh, what else is new?”) and they both lash out at tony at the end—even though they knew what they were getting into, even though they know tony isn’t entirely at fault—because they can’t see their kids anymore and that sucks

so like, can we please stop pretending that every single person on both “teams” wasn’t being manipulated through the entirety of this movie

can we please stop pretending that anyone in this movie was entirely in the wrong

tl;dr scott lang and clint barton love their kids and made what seemed to be the right decision with the information they had, and i will fight anyone who says otherwise

Anonymous asked:

ok, now my interest is piqued. Can CA: Civil War be watched as a stand-alone movie? With all of the new Black Panther movie and casting news I want to see the CA:CW. Would I need to watch any other films prior to going to the cinema?

Hi anon! I would say that watching the prior films IS necessary. Civil War does NOT work as a stand-alone. There is too much info you need to know going in. I know that sounds scary because we’re at movie #13 now, but the MCU is a universe that builds on itself. What happens in previous movies is absolutely relevant to the plot. That said, you don’t have to watch EVERY single MCU film that’s come along in order to watch CACW. Here’s what I would say are the directly relevant/essential films: Captain America: The First Avenger (you have to meet Steve, Bucky, and Peggy and understand who Steve Rogers is at his core and see how he became Captain America. There’s also a call-back scene/line in CACW from CATFA)The Avengers (Essential team relationship dynamics info AND what happened in New York is directly relevant to the plot in CACW)Captain America: The Winter Soldier (you have to see how the Capfam crew forms and understand Steve’s relationships with Sam and Nat. You also need to find out what happened to Bucky. Events of CATWS are used as a justification for actions in CACW. Something huge that changes the entire MCU world happens in this one.)The Avengers: Age of Ultron (Events from this film set the stage for Civil War. This film also introduces several important characters. You won’t get Civil War w/o this one)Iron Man 1 (Who is Tony Stark, who are his people, what’s his story)Iron Man 2 and 3 (Deeper into Tony Stark, who his people are-especially Rhodey-and what his issues are. First introduction of Black Widow in IM2. Essential to understanding his reactions/motivations/fears)The Incredible Hulk (a lot of people would probably say that you don’t need to see this one, but I think it is important because of General/secretary Ross. He was one of the villains of the movie and his actions in Civil War will make a LOT of sense after watching this one)Optional: Ant-Man (A very fun film and the MCU origin story for one of the Team Cap people. You’ll see how Ant-Man gets on Team Cap’s radar)I only put half of these in release order. You can watch the Cap films and the Iron Man films back-to-back if you want. Or in release order. The Avengers has to be watched before AoU. Cap 2 has to be watched before AoU as well. The Incredible Hulk can be watched at any point. I hope I didn’t just scare you away! If I have, I get it. It’s a big commitment. But a mostly satisfying one.

I feel like this sums up Steve and Sam’s relationship beautifully. Like, they live to give each other shit. It is their joie d’vive or however you spell it. They cannot let shit drop. Steve will be on-your-lefting Sam until they are both dead and buried. Sam will be harassing Steve about making bad choices, basically always, for just as long.

And this? This is something that must be kept secret because a friend like this you can trust with your deepest darkest wounds. This is a friend who will hunt down your lost, broken other half across the world with you. They will go to war with you. They will take a bullet for you and they know you will do the same for them.

But shit, man, when you trip over your own feet, and fall down the stairs? This is the friend who will film it, put it on Youtube, and email it to everyone you know. And for that you will love them forever.
