just wanted to congratulate our dark academia community for getting a second place on top aesthetics of tumblr 2020!
now, i wanna say a few things about this.
dark academia is not just about a bunch of white people hanging out in libraries, speaking some foreign language for fun and plotting murder against each other. it’s about the common love and passion we share for learning, for art, music, science and literature. it’s about learning about various cultures, about the stories of their people, and the things they value the most.
it’s about academia and the academics.
the aesthetic also includes fashion. but it’s not about the size of our bodies, it’s about our clothes, no matter who wears them.
we also like to create.
some of us like learning new languages, some of us like to to draw, paint or just simply examine the beauty of certain art forms. and some of us like to read different kinds of literature, learn about myths (not just roman or greek mythology for god’s sake), and write stories, hell even bring those stories to life on a theatre stage or in a movie set, or just for fun at home. or some of us like to listen. to music (it doesn’t have to be only classical music, it’s your choice), or, again, create music. sing until their lungs are on fire, or play instruments till’ their fingers are tired of moving. maybe, some of us like building statues, or just like looking at them. admiring them. or you can prefer studying mathematics, chemistry, any kind of science, psychology, teaching, healing, anything you want.
what i mean is, learning doesn’t have any limits. it has no boundaries, strict rules. you don’t have to be a college student to be a part of this community. you don’t have to be white, or skinny, or straight, or if you are all of them, that’s also okay, but just know that there’s diversity in this community. there must be. everyone should feel welcome.
so here’s to all of you who feels and makes others feel welcome.
