Well, what can I say that hasn’t been said...?
I guess I can start by saying I’ve been an avid fan of The Walking Dead since episode 1, even through some less than stellar episodes where my love for the characters and curiosity for what was to come always kept me in. Even the deaths of most characters never particularly offended me. Some made me cry, some made me cheer, some made me scream out in shock, but they were all monumental, and like...I was okay with it, because a lot of those characters had huge character arcs that built over a series of episodes...
...but Jesus. They did him dirty. How could they bring in this beloved character and give him such an epic introduction, make the fans fall in love with him, and then practically sideline him, only to wipe him out as soon as they bring him back for an episode?
And sorry-not-sorry, my Desus-shipping ass is bitter. I know how this show works, and y’all can’t tell me Jesus and Daryl didn’t share some significant scenes that seemed to be foreshadowing something for later? What happened to that? I feel like Kang or Gimple or something was like “nah,” swept Desus under the rug, hastily shoehorned in Aaron as a red herring, like “heyyy look, Aaron and Jesus, like the comics y’all!” And then kept Jesus as far away as possible from Daryl to divert from whatever direction they were initially going with Jesus and UGH. The writers did Jesus dirty. So dirty.
Waste. I dunno how I’ll keep watching. Honestly, at this point, even though I like everyone else, it’s hard to care right now. Probably Daryl is the only thing that can pull me back....probably. Possibly.
So, Walking Dead.....Jesus ain’t really dead, right? He’s just...wounded, right? He’ll rise again in 3 days, right?
Just me or this season have they kinda turned Jesus into a whiny little baby? Is that to make us stop liking him so we are less sad when they probably kill him off next episode? And it seems they are setting up to have Tara take over for him at Hilltop. And maybe Aaron to be the new ninja thanks to Jesus’s training.
Why is he so whiny now anyway? Is it cuz he wanted Maggie to lead and he is hurt she left? Does he feel betrayed cuz he confided in her and looked up to her and she abandoned him, which triggers his sad, lonely upbringing? Ah, I bet that’s it.
And what’s up with Jaaron? I don’t hate it, but I really felt like Jesus and Daryl had some very significant scenes together like maybe Gimple or whoever was building toward something, and Jesus was adopting this therapist role, this season though, Angela Kang has been like, “Nope! Let’s throw all of that out the window and spin it the way I want it. Disregard all the previous developments and stuff.” Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE what Kang is doing with the show except for this. The way they are writing Jesus this season….
playing Walking Dead: No Man’s Land and I’ve got some observations about the loading screen.
1. Daryl caught in the middle between Maggie and Jesus and Michonne and Rick. The four all have their back to us. Daryl is only one facing us, crouched, like he’s caught in the middle of things.
2. Jesus and Rick facing out toward the horizon. Maggie and Michonne got their backs, but heads are turned toward each other.
3. Daryl has a duel pair of knives. No crossbow.
I’m thinking well, Rick is gonna die. I mean, we all can pretty much assume that right? It’s not even a spoiler.
Also, our precious, undervalued, underused, sweet baybeh Jesus…I think…we may really lose him…when he has so much potential (AND UGH I JUST SHIP HIM WITH DARYL SO MUCH IT HURTS).
Maggie and Michonne…tension fo show, which we getting on the show.
Darryl, like the youngest child in a dysfunctional family, probably wants to keep everyone together. Or, like Beth predicted way back in the day, is gonna be the only one to come out of whatever’s ahead.
Man, killing Jesus. What a waste. THEY'D BETTER NOTTTT.
I've been rewatching some older seasons of Walking Dead and you know, it got me thinking: of course Darryl wants Neagan dead after being tortured by him at the Sanctuary, and of course for murdering Glenn and Abraham. I've realized some of it, maybe a bigger part, is out of his guilt, and I think his guilt goes even deeper and farther back than the Saviors. I rewatched the episode from season 5 where Beth died. I think Daryl blames himself not just for Glenn's death but Beth as well. I think it's a big part of why he is so devoted to Maggie. Also, side note, anytime I revisit the Bethyl days (as in when they were traveling together. I wasn't a hardcore shipper on Tumblr at the time it aired, but I remember watching it with my mom and we both being like "I hope Beth is of age cuz these 2 got some serious chemistry fo real, and DARYL NEEDS SOMEONE NICE IN HIS LIFE CUZ EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS." Haha...anyway) I feel such loss for Daryl. Daryl says in that one episode to her, good doesn't survive and BOOM, foreshadow and we didn't even know it yet. You sentenced Beth right there BB. ALSO, I wish DARYL realized how effing good HE is. You know, this season, he's opened up again and talking more. Part might be from Angela Kang's doing, but part might actually have been intended by Gimple. Like, Gimple said to Norman, don't worry, Daryl will have a lot to say again, one day. I wonder if Gimple was referring to the time jump. Cuz before now, Daryl had gone through some shit you know. Your boy needs time and therapy to heal that. I wonder if all that time living in Hilltop, Jesus was his therapy? I think that cuz Jesus has kind of acted as a therapist to other characters. I feel like he's the perfect person to get Daryl to open up, especially after what he's witnessed and done for him. I also feel like when these two do get screen time together, they do have some significant scenes or stares and I'm like "whatisthiswhatisthiswhatisthis." It just seems like it's intentional. GOD. I want Daryl to have someone like Jesus. Can we get a scene with the two of them together again soon please? Can we talk about what happened in the Sanctuary please? Can we see Jesus put a hand on Daryl's arm and be like "Daryl, you are good." OMG, PLEASE?????? I hope they freaking address it all soon. Christ, if they kill off Jesus and we never get anything more from these two together I'm gonna feel so.....BAMBOOZLED.
This season is setting me up for some major heartbreak. (but on the plus side, I'm enjoying this show in a way I haven't since pre-Alexandria days...)
Okay, so several posts down, I ranted how I think it’s lame when TWD fans or ex-fans lose their minds and give up the show just cuz a character on it dies, especially because that’s what the show has been doing from the beginning: killing people, good and bad, people we like, people we didn’t like, people we thought still had big things ahead of them, etc. It seemed like since Negan came along, people suddenly had a problem with it and omg, I’m going into another rant. That was not the point of this post.
Now if Rick leaves, I’ll be sad. Very sad. I love Rick episodes. But I’ll be okay. He just lost his son, you know. He’s lived through...a lot. I’ll be okay.
If Michonne leaves, well, that better only be cuz Rick leaves. And ever since Black Panther, I’m like “There’s no way this chick is gonna stick around when she’s making that Marvel money now.” So I’ve basically had some time to accept that she will probably leave at some point.
Now these two leaving, that is gonna be heavy.
Also, I hear the actress who plays Maggie has got a new show coming out, so I expect she will leave. Another blow, but...I can accept it.
But I swear to god. If they kill Jesus. I know, I know, he could be dying. But I just refuse to accept it until I see the episode.
But if they really, truly kill him off.....it will be like a light going out on the show. It was already bad enough we barely got him last season.
LISTEN, I will still watch the show but OMG. THERE WILL BE FURY. He is JESUS. YOU CAN’T KILL JESUS.
Um, that’s all I wanna say.
