A/N: I’ve gotten quite a few Freddie requests so I’ gonna combine a few!
You sighed and set your phone down, frustrated with your sister. Her wedding was in two days, you were the maid of honor, and you ‘still’ didn’t have a date. You tried to explain that every time you tried to go on a date it never ended well and that you didn’t need a date to be a maid of honor. But she was having none of it.
You didn’t bother with shoes, simply leaving your phone on your counter and shuffling across the hall to Mo’s apartment. You knocked softly, hoping Mo was the only one home. It wasn’t that you didn’t like his teammates, you really thought they were entertaining. But they could be a little much.
No one answered so you figured he wasn’t home and went to return to your apartment and sulk alone. Fact of the matter is, you sister had set you up on seven different dates in the past five months, trying to find you a date for her wedding.
You were almost to your door when Mo’s swung open to reveal Mitch, Auston, and Willy all walking out, laughing loudly. “Hey, (y/n)!”
You turned around and greeted the boys, ignoring the fact that you looked like an absolute hobo. They must have noticed the state you were in because they all but ushered you into Mo’s apartment and sat you down on the couch. And soon enough you had a full wine glass in your hand. The only odd thing was, was that Mo was nowhere to be seen. You opened your mouth to ask where he was but Mitch cut you off.
“Him and Freddie went to the store. Now why do you look like you could murder someone?”
You sighed, taking a large swig of your wine before setting it down on the coffee table and cradling your head in your head. “My sister is insisting I have a date to her wedding because I apparently I can’t be a functioning Maid of Honor without having a date. Her wedding is on New Years Eve for Christ’s sake! Who the hell is going to be free during a pandemic on New Years Eve?!”
“I don’t think Freddie’s doing anything. You guys are friends, right?” Willy’s question made your head perk up a bit. You’d been harboring a more than small crush on the 6′4″ goalie since you’d met him a few ago in this very living room.
“I’m sure he’s got plenty of things to do that are better than going to a wedding with me,” you responded quietly, heat creeping its way up your neck and into your cheeks.
“I was actually planning on staying home but if you need someone to go with, I wouldn’t mind.” Your head shot to your left where the Dane and your neighbor were setting a few grocery bags down on the kitchen counter. You averted your eyes back to your wine glass and shook your head.
“No, no it’s okay. I’ll just suffer through the last date she’s forcing me on tonight,” I muttered, downing my wine in one big gulp. “Plus, by this rate I’ll be too wine drunk to care.”
At this comment Mo took my wine glass from me and put it in the sink before sandwiching me between him and Freddie who had placed himself on my right. “I’m sure he can’t be that bad, what do you know about him?”
By the time you were done explaining how extremely bland your date for tonight was, your head was in Freddie’s lap and your feet were on Mo’s. Freddie was playing with your hair while the boys listened surprisingly quietly. “It’s just infuriating sometimes! I mean, she sets me up with these boring as hell accountant guys who don’t understand my stupid humor or my love of hockey! They say it’s ‘too violent’ and ‘pointless’! I mean, I just don’t understand!”
“Well, why don’t you call this guy and tell him you can’t make it tonight and just take me as your date?” Freddie asked, looking down at you. You groaned and ran a hand down your face.
“It’s not that simple you know,” you commented, rubbing your eyes. The guys laughed and shook their heads.
“Well we should probably get going, Steph wants me back so we can plan for her parents on new years,” Mitch announced, the two younger boys standing up. You bid them goodbye, still stretched out across Mo and Freddie, dreading going on the date.
“You know what, fine, I’ll call him and tell him I can’t go and I’ll take you because I honestly have no clue what else to do,” You blurted out about ten minutes later, standing up and marching over to your apartment without so much as a goodbye
“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“”“`
“I can’t believe you brought an NHL player as your wedding date!” Your sister squealed quietly. You had made it through almost the entire wedding without too many comments about bringing Freddie as your date. But, as midnight drew nearer your sister began pestering you even more.
“Look, Kelsie, we’re just friends. We met through Mo because they’re teammates. And that’s it.” She rolled her eyes at your words and pranced off to find her husband. There were only a few more minutes until midnight and you were nursing your fifth full glass of wine when Freddie found you, tucked away in a corner.
“You know, it’s rude to leave your date alone with a bunch of people he doesn’t know.” You raised your eyes from your glass to his, smiling slightly. He wrapped an arm around your waist and guided you towards the balcony where a lot of the wedding guests were partying, excited for the new year.
You nervously chewed on your lip, seeing all the couples pair up, readying for their midnight kisses and a few more hours of celebration. In your bold and drunken state you halted and set your wine glass down before harshly turning to Freddie who was giving you an odd look.

“Look, Freddie I know we’re friends and all but I’ve liked you for a long time.”

“And at this point I don’t care if I ruin our friendship because having you here with me tonight really set thigns straight for me.”
6
“I get it if you don’t fee the same way but I hd to tell you.”
4
“Well this is really awkward and you probably don’t want to be friends anymore…”

You looked up to see him staring at you almost adoringly.

He stepped forward and gently took your face in his hands, bringing you dangerously close to him, making you afraid you’d drop then and there.

Before you could fully comprehend what was happening, he crashed his lips to yours. You moved in sync, standing on your toes as he leaned down, deepening the kiss.
You both reluctantly pulled away when your lungs started burning due to the lack of air. Maybe your sister was on to something when she insisted you bring a date to her wedding.
