We don’t have to think it through

“What do you mean you’re going on a date with Matthew Tkachuk?” Your best friend, Haley, all but shrieked at you, her eyes going wide on your phone screen. Really, you hadn’t planned on telling her, but she had FaceTimed you while you were getting ready and had been pestering you to tell her why you had refused her dinner invitation. 

Sighing, you set down your makeup brush and shrugged. “He asked me on a date, it’s not a big deal.”

It was a big deal, really, and you knew it. You’d just met Matthew two nights before, having been dragged to one of his house parties by none other than the girl on your screen right now. She has harbouring a bit of a crush on Johnny Gaudreau, meaning she had insisted on going to the party he invited her to. At first you were encouraging her to go, but you soon came to the realization that your friend group’s unspoken rule of never going to parties alone meant that she was intending on you joining her.

You had been reluctant to go even from the very first mention of this party a week ago, but the feeling only worsened as she dragged you through his doorway. Fortunately, you knew there would be more people there than the place could really hold, so it would be relatively easy for you to avoid the infuriating host. 

Or so you thought.
