S3 Gag Reel

Richard talking about Jared in the episode he directed, “Just my Imagination,” made me tear up.

He said the scene where Sam and Sully are talking was his favorite to film and it was because Jared is just so goddamn talented.  He said that he purposefully made Sam’s seat closer to the ground in comparison to Sully’s so Jared would have the opportunity to make Sam seem young, make it easy to connect with someone he had a connection with as a child.  He said that Jared didn’t just make Sam seem young though, he made Sam seem young and vulnerable and so so so tiny.  

Rich said when he said ‘cut’ he was tearing up so he kind of had to choke it out and then he went on and praised Jared even more.

It was so so so so so so so amazing seeing someone praise Jared like that because, wow, he is so talented and people do not acknowledge it enough.

I so know what you mean. I had a private meet and greet with him at Houscon this year and was the only one who asked a question,well really two. 1. How difficult was it to film the ’ sparkles is on her face scene and the burying the mermaid scene where Jensen does that hilarious hand gesture when his character Dean realizes he went to far or the first scene in the bunker.. 2. You did such a fantastic job in this episode with balancing comedy with real heartfelt scenes, how was it working on such a unique script like that?

So first of he was super excited to get to talk about it,got an extra hug at the end. But his answer to number one was, “ Not that hard because all of the actors I was working with were highly professional and just amazing. He also said that Mate, (Sully), would improv stuff. Like some in the sparkles scene or when Sam and Dean walked out of the kitchen he just kept talking. Also the thing that Jensen does when Dean realizes he stepped over the line was the first take and had Richard laughing the most. He was like I don’t need another one!

But the answer to his second question broke my heart. 2. He said,” I am so glad you recognized the laughs and the tough moments. Everyone kept saying you got an awesome hilarious script and he was like that’s not how I read it. I read it has a sad story,I mean yeah there were laughs, but it’s really a story about these children who have absent parents and so these creatures take care of them. like the alcoholic mom or sams absent dad. So it was a bit of a challenge balancing that,but he said Jared,Jensen,and Mate just clicked and worked so well together.

So yeah Richard is brilliant and such a sweetheart.
