I’m seeing a lot of people worrying they don’t sound eloquent enough to leave comments on ao3 and please I’m begging you even writers don’t feel eloquent in comments, I save all my good sentences for actual writing, here are my most common comment phrases when I’m moved by a fic:

- HELLO??? IS ANYONE OUT THERE???
- I want to bite and chew that sentence [bonus points if you quote the sentence you want to bite and chew]
- *whimpers* *faints* I LIVE

These include that we are a non-profit, do not host images, do not use algorithms to promote or advertise content to users, are not aimed at children, and collect very little user data. The results of the 2024 U.S. election are deeply concerning, but the OTW remains committed to providing an inclusive space for fannish expression and will continue to fight for fans' free expression, both in court and through legislative efforts, in the U.S. and worldwide. We have seen that fans are a powerful force for promoting free expression, and we will continue to inform people about opportunities for their voices to be heard. If a bill is likely to be passed in the future that could impact our ability to provide services, our legal team will be prepared to offer updates, guidance, and legal support to our users. Fans are not alone in this fight. Both the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) (https://www.aclu.org/news/civil-liberties/the-aclu-is-fighting-back-against-trump ) and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) (https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/11/2024-us-election-over-eff-ready-whats-next ) made preparations for this outcome and have developed strategies to combat anticipated efforts to curtail online freedoms. We've seen a fair bit of worry/scaremongering about this in the past week, so it's great to hear a clear response directly from the OTW. The first paragraph in particular is a good thing for fans to understand—bills like KOSA (already in progress) and whatever might come next are specifically aimed at commercial sites.
We strongly second supporting the orgs that have been preparing for a Trump win, especially the EFF (Elizabeth was their keynote speaker a few months ago, and they are very interested in working more with fans). They're obviously going to have a massive number of things to balance in the coming years—including very grave threats around privacy and security that Americans should be worrying about first and foremost—but protecting free expression on the internet will remain one of their priorities.
